Hi Gang
This lesson today is a good combination of WHY and HOW - I made a massive error teaching the first two thirty day challenge. This lesson makes that right. It should also give people a lot of hope - because selling skills are not required
(BTW - I think you should learn heaps about copywriting - The Gary Halbert Newsletter is free and more importantly - brilliant)
On With The Lesson…
Here is the download
There is also a PDF Report of the slides in this presentation
Awesome info and truly enlightening. Thanks Ed.
Thanks Ed,
I realized that I have experienced this process when I was selling retail in a gift shop with high tourist traffic. I found out after the season was over that my sales numbers were higher than other clerks even though I had no previous experience and hated (!) selling. But I loved talking to people from other countries. I would just ask where they were from and how their holiday was going and the conversation would flow from there, and they inevitably would buy something before they left. BUT, somehow I had never translated that experience to this process! Thank you, you have obliterated a brick wall for me!
Hi Ed,
You didn’t say it in so many words but you just taught people that they will make more money by building relationships. Relationships require honest communication and that breeds a certain level of trust as time passes.
Great job,
Daryl
Ed,
You just reinforced why it’s important to contact my opt-in subscriber list. They wanted to hear from me, or else they wouldn’t have joined or would have opted out. I’ve neglected that for several reasons. One being the fear of having to communicate and get opt-outs and the other having to sell.
You’ve just taken away both of those fears with a 20 minute YouTube video.
Thank you.
Hi, Ed,
You are so kind in how you tell us to get off our ***es and get to work!
One question about counting the check moves… Do I count the actions I take, or the size of the audience. For example, if I make a Twitter post, does that count as one check move… or would I count all of my Twitter followers?
Happy day,
Anne
Great lesson as always Ed. I just paid a visit to the site you recommended in your video newsellcoaching.com and registered for the free lessons. Did you know that he is giving away his book ‘Wombat Selling’ on his site? It’s available as a free download. You could download it here: http://www.newsellcoaching.com/the-book/
Keep up the good work!
To your success,
William
Bow Down to the Edster!
I just wanted to give you a Big thanks. I have learned so much in past 2 months that will help me and others I run into.
Here is a TT Chart I made up today. Feel free to take it and use it.

The concepts of conversations is so important in selling.
Thank you for sharing because I skimmed through a sales
book today and nowhere did it say ‘don’t sell yourself’.
I’ve been in sales for 15 years and I knew that trick from
experience.
Yes Web 2.0 is a new game but you can apply some old
tricks and twist to it.
Thank you!
Anne, I’m going to jump in and try to answer your question. I went back over that part of the video three times to try and understand what the T/T chart meant and how to use it. So, here’s what I think:
A check move is when you contact someone (or a bunch of someones) giving them the opportunity to say yes or no. To me, that means they can read your Twitter or email or not read it. That doesn’t matter because you have no control over them once your contact post leaves you.
If you send out a Twitter and you have 8 followers, that’s 8 check moves. You are sending out the opportunity to 8 people to view your Twitter or ignore it, follow a link or not.
If you send out an email to your group of close friends that you’ve written a new post to your blog, and you have 6 friends in that list, you’ve made 6 check moves. Each of your six friends will decide to either read your email or delete it, and then if they read it, will decide to visit your blog and read your post or not.
Your Twitter or email or Facebook post is your way of starting a conversation with a bunch of people. Some will want to engage and talk, and others won’t. The point is, you’ve walked up to them in cyberspace and said “hi, how’s it going?” They’ll either respond and you’re talking, or they’ll say something like “fine, excuse me” and walk off.
Those of you in the know, did I get it right???
I am sorry but this is bl@@dy marvellous. I have a list, had no idea how treat them or how to talk to them.
Now I understand Whoo. I was just about to do a chart on how to reset up my autoreponder as it has a problem - now I can do it with a bit more knowledge - be nice to people, they love it.
Ed, have a kiss from me.
Yes, Ed, once again when we’re all trying to see the forest for the trees, you’ve shaken out the leaves to reveal the sunshine beaming through. I’m just banging my head against the wall for not applying what I’ve always known and done as a successful Realtor to my efforts during the 30 DC. I’ve taught many new agents that they should forget about selling “houses,” but focus on becoming marvelous listeners of their prospective clients’ wants and needs. I’ve told them to be sure to keep in regular contact with their prospects, if only to offer a quick hello and/or a quick commentary of current activities in the market. When you develop a relationship this way, buyer clients flock to you for guidance and sellers solicit your ability to confidently represent their properties. Then referrals from these happy campers flow in effortlessly, and more business is forthcoming. You’ve given me an “ah-ha” moment like never before, and I’m off to apply this very sound way of business to my online marketing efforts. You rock!
Sherri,
That is what I thought… I just wanted to be sure that I wasn’t giving myself more credit than I’ve earned!
I suppose, though, that as long as I’m consistent and can see a trend up, that’s what matters most!
Happy day,
Anne
Just realised I’ve been suffering from a fear when it comes to expressing myself. The thought of writing content just scares the living daylights out of me. Not good for when it comes to this game. You see, at school I failed English because I very rarely handed in assignments. I used to get a kind of writer’s block, afraid that I could not express things correctly and I was concerned what people would think what I’d written was crap! Having taken your advice I started reading the Gary Halbert Report, in particular The Boron Letters. Half way through the fifth letter I realised there were some things that I hadn’t got around to doing. One I had been contemplating for some time is this.
I have found the Thirty Day Challenge inspirational in many different ways. Thank you Ed, Dan & team. There is something going on here that is really good… I think it might be what Willis was talkin’ about.
My deep appreciation to all involved.
Ed, this message is too close to home. I’ve held jobs at sales many times. Each time I failed and ended up moving on to either retail sales (they come to you!) or regular office work.
Working online interests me because you can sell without selling and you don’t have a sales manager breathing down your neck at the bi-weekly 8AM sales meeting. This video gives us another tool — a daily tally that we can work with to improve our efforts. That in particular is the main thing missing from my campaigns. I’m starting on my own T/T chart tonight.
Thanks for bringing this up!
Hi all:
Ed, I totally agree with what you are saying, but I have a caveat question. In regard to email lists, there are several gurus (to remain nameless), who in my opinion, abuse their lists. I guess as Frank Kern put it, I am one of those jaded Internet Marketers. What is a happy medium for contacting your list and not irritating them to the point of leaving your list? A few gurus got to the point that they were emailing me every day and sometimes two and three times a day. This got real irritating and I opted out of their lists. Just some food for thought for everyone. Thanks.
Dave
Fantastic advice, as usual and a great reminder for my health coaching (whose contacts I practically abandoned trying to educate myself on 30DC material). I am still confused about the math on the sample chart . . counting tomorrow before it happens, then counting it on the day it happens. But I get the concept.
Ed, This is great stuff, as usual. You given us great guidelines to follow - par excellence. Also, I love the reaffirmation that content must be top-notch, of course, for the buying experience to work. Julie
Hi, Hey has the Gary Halbert Newsletter site been taken down?
Thanks.
Dave
Great stuff, Ed. Dave beat me to it - Gary’s site down.
Good Stuff as usual!! Gary Halberts site is down so I guess that his newsletters are no longer available at any price.
I was wondering if and wherre I can get links to each challenge from You Tube if possible, as I missed the August challenge by 2 months.
Thank you

Brilliant info Ed and all the more so as the idea of having a conversation with people comes far more easily than the idea of selling. So the idea of offering people an opportunity to engage with what you offer rather than a heavy sell to purchase something makes total sense. In my coaching work, it’s vital to build up relationships with people first - the more you can offer useful advice, free info and pointers to valuable information, the more people begin to trust you and think of you when it comes to buying something at the point they need it. I’ve said before that it’s your ability to relay your training in such a conversational, friendly, honest style that sets you apart from other internet marketeers - that and the incredible generosity of TDC and the rest of the team. Thanks so much once again
Tamsin
The Halbert site is still up. I just visited. Go check it out.
Dear Ed,
This Sept.18 email regarding TDC is the last one I received. Are there more coming or do I have to do something.
Sorry if this too vague.
Thanks,
Louisa
[...] which I taught in the 30dc. So, if you want to refresh yourself, go and look at the whole video on check moves by a brilliant guy out of Melborne, Dr Michael Hewitt-Gleeson [...]
Unbelievable Ed, just when I think you can’t keep coming with the real deal - you do it over and over again!
Thanks for the great video, really gave me some things to think about
