iTunes - Getting the Challenge Content - Part 2
Here is part two of the video on iTunes (Make sure you watch part 1 - or you will get confused)
And as always - here is the download
Do you want to know the reason this is going to be so big?
Once you set it up - it’s automatic - the content gets delivered to the clients computer and then their portable device. I was traveling recently and was stunned to see how many people were watching things on their iPod. Think about it, people are exercising more and listening to some interesting content while doing it is sweet.
70% of new cars in America have a specific iPod connection (and never forget the US is our target market)
At the moment only geeks like me are downloading shows on to Apple TV - but once you have tried this for yourself (or like me, have had a youtube party where everyone shows there favorite videos…)
Now thats enough for today!
Speak to you tomorrow

Excellent tutorial on using iTunes! Thanks…
July 24th, 2007 at 11:25 am
Ed,
Saved his bacon…and his turkey!
Are we going to be using itunes for anything other than downloading your podcasts/videos etc? I remember doing the same thing last year and never using it
I love your blind enthausiasm for all thing Jobs, but if you put ‘ipod’ or ‘iphone’ in Google Trends, things don’t look that great.
1 millions users is small potatoes and hardly a core market. Surely we should be concentrating on the mass markets?
I’ve created 32 How-To videos and DVD’s to date and some of them are available for download to PSP, Ipod etc. Take up on this is about 2%. Hardly worth the hassle! Once the novelty has worn off, hardly anyone likes watching video on a small screen. It’s plain nasty!!
I did have one customer who watched the entire 1 hour ‘How to cook a thanksgiving turkey’ on his ipod on Thanksgiving day and he was very grateful

iPod and iPhone users are early adopters and very influencial people, what Seth Godin calls “sneezers” so it’s something to consider. Just because the market is _relatively_ small, doesn’t mean that it’s not worthy of paying serious attention to.

Hi There,
I have not been able to get the past Podcasts to download to my ITunes. I went over the advanced settings and preferences several times, and I still am not getting the previous downloads. I have only been able to get part 2 of “Getting the Challenge Content”. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
M.J.

H, Ed
These two itunes videos have been a real eyeopener for me. I have alway shied away from downloading it
and now i wish i had done it a long time back. Has this market grows, the potential sales to this market will
also grow and with the advent of looking to the future when the fold up screens get adapted for iphones and
ipod like devices, more and more people will use them to watch video on because they will have potentialy
much larger visual areas…

I’m new to all this and I was wanting to know if I need to download this whole part of it since I don’t have an I-pod. In other words will I need it the 30 day challenge?

Based on all the media hype, you might think that millions of people bought Iphones last week.
But you would be wrong.
According to numbers released today, 146,000 iPhones were sold and activated on the first release weekend of June 29 and 30, a number that disappointed investors following some analyst forecasts that Apple would sell 500,000 or more iPhones in its first weekend.
On the release of the numbers, Apple shares fell $8.81, or more than 6 percent, to $134.89, wiping out more than $7 billion of Apple’s market value.

Peter
146,000 - an incredible number buy itself - ACTIVATED their phones-not bought. And there is a big difference given that people could not activate till the Sunday-which is not included in these figures.
The most successful mobile phone in history - the razor - took three MONTHS to reach 700 thousand units WORLDWIDE. The iPhone was only released in North America - to a single carrier.
Anyway you don’t need an iPhone/ipod or any other device for that matter for the thirty day challenge.but you will need iTunes.
Ed
PS Wonder what Apples stock price will be after their Q3 results later today…

Ed,
What is the iTunes capture link for TubbyNerd.com? I can’t get anything to come up for this blog at http://tubbynerd.com/wp-rss2.php which is the link location copied from right clicking on the feed subscription icon. I’ve botched it up somehow.
Thanks!

Hi, I wonder what the URL would be for the underachiever podcast? Thanks,
Debbie
July 25th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
Never mind, I found it.
July 26th, 2007 at 10:59 am
Let’s just say that the small amount of Apple stock I have went up enough today to almost pay for an iPhone…
July 26th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
Ed - You say that the videos look great on apple tv and the iPhone - do you have one or both? How do you rate them?
I, like most people are on a PC. My MP3 player isn’t an iPod and I have media streaming from a PC to my TV.
To be honest I don’t know anyone who has a Mac, iMac, iPhone, iTV or whatever -But I do know loads with iPods.
Don’t get me wrong - I’ve had a Mac (and worked on one in publishing) and an iPod (can’t stand iTunes) - too restrictive on getting it to do what I want and not what Apple want you to do. On a PC iTunes takes it over - converts it into formats I don’t like etc.
Will you only be covering stuff using iTunes? There you go, my 2c worth.
July 26th, 2007 at 7:37 pm
Videos - look brilliant on apple TV
I’ll only be teaching and using iTunes - it’s free, cross platform and the easiest thing to teach people.
Plus it’s a crucial marketing pipe going forward (don’t worry about any of that now but it is and will get bigger)
It’s the best tool for the job. The “restrictiveness” of iTunes is just what people starting out need.
Everything in the challenge will work on Mac’s and PC. I dont compare what computer or program you use - I do care about you all taking action in August.
July 26th, 2007 at 9:40 pm
May I ask you to slow down a little in your videos? When you were describing how to download the podcasts with itunes, you said “I am just going to click here …” . I went over it several times, but I still could not see where you clicked. Please make it abundantly clear what you are doing. For novices (I hate the word “newbie”) me I need to know exactly where every click has to be made.
Cheers,
JES.

I have to admit…..
As one of those obnoxious Mac zealots;-0, I love all the Mac talk. It’s so nice to be learning about things that don’t exclude me because a strategy requires some piece of software that I couldn’t run. Of course if I had and Intel Mac I could run both, but…

To subscribe to the thirty day challenge feed in iTunes you can also just go to the itunes store and search on “thirty day challenge”. Four or five results will show up, the one you want is pretty obvious.
That way seems a lot easier to me.
July 30th, 2007 at 6:04 pm
I’m with MJ Lachica! I have subscribed, gone into the advanced settings and instructed to download all podcasts (past, present and future), and I get nothing! In fact, in doing the copy and pasting of URLs, I got a message (after a few hours) from iTunes claiming the URL for 30 Day Challenge did not appear to be valid. So I deleted that and subscribed via the iTunes Store. And still no previous podcasts show up! So, what can we do to fix that?

Ed, WoW this is amazing. If I learn nothing else “except I know I will” this was worth every minute. I wonder too why people do not investigate the software they have and use it in every way. You are amazing. Thanks!

Thanks Ed,
This is good stuff. I haven’t used itunes before so it’s great to learn new things, especially when someone takes me by the hand and shows me, I love easy.

Can anyone advise re how important it is to have an ipod? If it is important can you suggest which one to buy for a beginner?
Thanks

Like M.J.–my pod casts thru the url in Itunes start downloading @ Day 3. Can anyone please offer any suggestions as to how to get Days 1 and 2 podcasts to load?
August 9th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
Hi, as of 8/9/07, iTunes only shows days 7 through 9. Is this an iTunes issue, or is there a way to get all the podcasts from the 30 day challenge?
August 13th, 2007 at 5:41 am
I was just wondering what you would recommend to use instead of itunes for Linux Ubuntu since it’s not available on Linux ?
August 13th, 2007 at 6:47 am
Hi Ed
Thanks. This is good stuff. Had itune years ago & hated it. But this newer version seems great. Might just say bye bye to WMP. Hey, like a few others here, I got to work on 30DC a bit late & have only been able to download the top page of podcasts from the blog using itunes as you directed. Whats up with that. Can it crawl down the pages somehow? Is there a setting I can tweak for that? Also like another here, subscribed to underachiever but that show noting when i try to update podcast. Any help with those 2 questions appreciated. Thanx
August 13th, 2007 at 10:27 am
OK so I finally got all the iTune stuff working and I subscribed to the podcasts. I even selected to download all since I am starting about 10 days in to the challenge but I am only getting podcast 8-12 and not all of then do we know the reason for this?

I am very disappointed to find that iTunes moved ALL my audio files into its Library. Years of carefully placing files with associated documents into related folders has all gone down the tubes.
I wish the video had warned about this, including specifically stating what NOT to click if you don’t want your videos moved. The wording in the po-up boxes suggested - stated - that it would not impact, so I thought a copy was going into the Library, not that the file was being moved.
Be very careful if you have already arranged or stored your current audio files a specific way.
August 19th, 2007 at 7:59 pm
I’m here to learn how to make money online, and if I have to install and learn a new program then I am willing to do that. Just for the record, I like itunes, but I’m staying with Winamp for my music.
August 19th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
Question: If itunes will download the audio, video, and also text then why do we need bloglines to pick up the feed?
August 21st, 2007 at 11:40 am
i am doing a review, i, too, had my audio files pulled into itunes-not nice…my podcasts are going into music file, only one in podcast file. i am using a windows platform on laptop. also, i am missing files that did not automaticially download to itunes..

August 22nd, 2007 at 7:53 pm
I have also had the problem with files not downloading. Maybe I’m just missing something cause I’m relatively new to Itunes.
When I subscribed to the podcast it only downloaded the most recent ones.
August 27th, 2007 at 8:33 am
Could anyone advise if they have been able to access all the download dates for the ipod
Get all certainly hasn’t worked for me I started late .Advise would be great please
October 2nd, 2007 at 10:21 am
All Itunes downloaded was the latest 10 files. There may be a way to get the files specifically but it would be much easier to let Itunes go and grab all the files on its own. If possible of course…

Hi Ed,
a few days ago on being invited to the 2008 TDC I felt pleased to be a member of the ongoing 2008 TDC.
I thought it was a misprint to find those pre-sessional materials dated in 2007.
Sure many of your infos are pretty informational to me still - about nine (!!) months later.
May be I might have chosen to go some other steps in developing my concept had I had these infos almost a year earlier - in July/August 2007. And that’s what provokes some maltasting ‘energy’, anger, disappointment, and -yes: distrust- all over.
I can’t but help looking at what you offer from a critical point of view asking: is it commercial interest, is it neglect, abuse even of trust and positive attitude?
I simply don’t understand the motives behind and I’d appreciate of getting some feedback/explanation to calm that bitter taste of frustrating experience I’m going through with regard to the TDC.
Would you agree that much of the clatter around Andy’s Stompernet program, your TDC and eg. Frank Kern’s launches of last year and this spring respectively have to be regarded under the same heading:
>
Although I personally still tack around on the level of a newbie I’m no longer satisfied with some nice or charming running gags, old boy.
-the only change to be observed being
that my lack of knowlegde turned out to become an invite for that amount of abuse on trust and
that of a deep and angry disappointment.
Yes I’m angry!!
So give me a reason to forgive you.-
i.o.w.give me reasons!
April 20th, 2008 at 8:44 am
strange, hey that the unkind summing up the Heading wasn’t delivered, it ran sthg like
>
Mara, angry to find herself cheated
April 20th, 2008 at 8:47 am
OK then, without any special ‘marks’ a third trial:
‘take the ‘moola’ whereever you can get hold of it and grasp it as long as you arecan take it from those nimcompoops out there’.

Ehhh…yeah this material is not part of the 2008 TDC.
The 2008 prelaunch stuff is going on right now. It’s all landing in your mailbox as it’s available… THIS however is the old stuff from 2007, available for your enjoyment. I’m personally going through all the 2007 stuff to catch up so I’m ecstatic that they made the old stuff available, which I think is… well… Dandy
August 11th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Hmm…I followed the directions on setting up the podcasts in my iTunes but I get a message in iTunes that says There are no playable episondes for “Thirty Day Challenge”. The URL might point to text only episodes, or contain file types that iTunes cannot play. Can someone direct me as to where I can find out how to fix this. I would like to get the podcast down on my iTouch. Thanks,
M
August 20th, 2008 at 10:14 pm
I’m having the same problem. Where can I download all the podcasts?
August 29th, 2008 at 2:52 am
Hey Ed,
I am not sure if your podcasts from http://tubbynerd.com/wp-rss2.php
is suitable for Vista with ITunes 7 version 7.7.1.11 as I unable to
retrieve any of your Podcasts. Even with the 30DC can not
get those podcasts either.
I am certain I have done everything right because gone through each
QuickTime video one after the other.
Ed I am just blown away with the quality of your content even with the
Pre-season 2007 more than I have known.
I can not wait until I even start the 1st day of the 30DC.
Have an Inspiring Day
Grant Wilson
