  3. Richard Osterude Says:

    Hi Ed,
Great work on the videos they look lovely.
FYI to save some extra bandwidth with YouTube, you can link to the highest quality video version of the YouTube video by adding &fmt=18 at the end of the video URL, so in the case of the flock video the link would be:

    http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=C1zmN_2orgI&fmt=18

    AND
here’s the nice thing. People can directly download the MP4 video from YouTube. Also, they only need to use a javascript bookmark on their browser to show the download link. Here’s a post I made with the javascript bookmark if anyone’s interested: http://tinyurl.com/3onddo

    Keep up the great work!!!!

    Richard

I’ve just started using this browser and I think it’s flocking great.

    Flockin’ A, man.

  6. Michelle Says:

I like the new site layout…especially the little boxes. I have the browser installed…love it! I am itching to get started with the challenge.

  7. Kevin Thomas Says:

First of I have to say that the little packages for each lesson are a nice touch.

Now on to Flock, I’ve heard of it in the past, just never gotten up the nerve to give up on Firefox. I have to say, I’m now a convert to this new wonderful browser. All the great features of Firefox with all the cool new tweaks of flock. This is great.

I can’t wait for the next lesson to come up, the suspense is killing me.

  8. Steve Fallon Says:

I saw this vid (or a test version of it) almost a week ago, and I have got to say that I have been using Flock since then, and it ROCKS!!!

Can’t wait to get my teeth into this years challenge.

Tick Tock Lets Take on the World With Flock!

  9. John Pash Says:

I tried Flock in the past, but it must have been a pre-beta version, and I wasn’t impressed. And to tell the truth, I had a difficult time with the name. It’s one thing to be a cog in the machine, face in the crowd or a sheep in the flock. But who wants to be reminded of it all day long?

Also, way baaaaack then (see what I did there?) I wasn’t running a network of blogs, and didn’t have the need for all of the extras. But this time…I love it! And I’m about 3 days away from dragging the poor little Firefox icon to the trash.

Although, when FF3 comes out, it will be decision time again. Sadly, Safari just doesn’t make the grade for what I need a browser to do. Thanks for the reminder to give this great browser another chance.

  10. Elizabeth Says:

Works great! Thank you Ed Dale.
    Onward!

Get the FLOCK out! This is spectacular, I’m really jazzed about joining the TDC for the first time. My hope is that it’ll help our my current B2B website, but ideally I’d like to launch a new product/website as an additional source of rev.

    Cheers,
    Flockafeller

  15. Magdalicious Says:

Oh how handy I already have flock :D

  16. Ben Helps Says:

    Devil’s advocate here.

I switched from Firefox to Flock about a year or so ago, and for a while I swore by it.

Then I started swearing at it. It just seemed slower and more crash prone.

Enter Firefox 3 (currently RC1 I believe). Woowee, it’s damn fast and for once not a memory hog.

It crashes a lot less on average that Flock, although that could have been my penchant for adding scores of add-ons.

Don’t get me wrong, Flock is a great browser, but I’m just sayin’ …

  17. Evan Hamilton Says:

Immense thanks to Ed for spreading the word about Flock here at the Thirty Day Challenge. I can’t wait to see what else you teach everyone! :)

@John Pash and @Ben Helps: Flock will be based on Firefox3 later this year…we already have a working Alpha, and a Beta will be out in a few weeks.

@Ben Helps: As for running scores of add-ons, that will certainly affect performance in Flock OR Firefox.

    Flock’n'roll,

  28. Ben Helps Says:

@Evan: Cool that Flock’s close to using FF3 for the masses. However I hope you can keep it’s memory footprint down like basic FF3 seems to (dozens of Java and Flash heavy tabs open, still under 100MB used). I know pre FF3 original and flavours used to get anything up to 400+MB before imploding on my computer.

  29. Edward Says:

Are you sure about this Flock browser thing? I just saw this link about Firefox setting all kinds of records…

  30. Alex Says:

I was struggling with IE7 as it was. Now I am ‘TOTALLY LOST’! I can’t find any of my ‘OLD’ Favorites. I can’t make heads or tails of how they’re listed in Flock. I’ve had to reopen IE7 to get back to my Bookmarked Favorites and watch the videos. I’ll re-open Flock after I’ve watched the video’s and hopefully make better sense of it. For now it just seems too complicated and it’s taking me too much time to navigate it.
