Hi Gang,

Dan here, and being the geek boy I am, I thought I would let you know about a cool little service from Google called Lively… anyway, it is Google’s answer to Second Life (I am there as Dan Swain)… but it is really just a bit of fun (and nothing to do with the Thirty Day Challenge), but if you want to hang out in a wierd virtual universe and ask me any questions about the challenge then please pay a visit…

You can get there by visiting this link (sorry, PC users only)… ouch!

Update: Thanks to everyone who came along tonight. Was great to chat to you all.

    “(sorry, PC users only)”

I thought Googles motto was do no evil, hmmm….

  2. Dan Says:

I know… scary… (but Mac and Linux support *IS* coming this month…)

  3. IMStrong Says:

No, no, no! This as a time sink. Do you have any idea how much time is needed to prepare and successfully complete the TDC?

Not just TDC, anyone worth their salt is using TDC to build a business. Focus people! No time for idle distractions.

Unless, of course, this is designed to draw away those marginal people who can not really commit to following through on the decision to be successful. They will spend all their time on distractions like virtual realities and not pester everyone who is working hard at IM.

Hey, I’m not the boss of you. My advice may even be sh**. But remember this, every minute spent in pursuit of idle distraction is a minute away from Results Detection.

  4. WendyJRoan Says:

Thank you Dan! That was fun and I’ll look out for you and SecondLife too.

  5. Dan Says:

IMStomg… Good point… But nothing wrong with getting away for a while…

    Dan

  6. Shannon Says:

@IMStrong omg.. relax… :-) Even John Reese is taking a minute away from Results Detection and out running with the bulls!

Remember.. it’s not the destination that’s most important.. it’s that you have fun on the journey to your destination. We’re only in pre-season of TDC. There’s nothing wrong with taking a load off and shoot some sh*t with Dan.

    my 2 cents. ;-)

“This as a time sink.” I understand where you are coming from - and it could be. Being a mac user I can’t find out yet ; (
But, this grey hair of mine has learned me a couple of things. One of them is that it is the journey - if I can’t have fun along the way, I’m not going to be happy at the end of it. The other is that it could develope into an important part of ‘branding yourself’ … and that is never a waste of time.

  8. WendyJRoan Says:

I would just like to say that I work 16 hours a day on the computer… trying to get everything done. I rarely, very rarely, take a break - ever. So, I do not feel guilty about spending a few minutes away from my work.

Then again, I am driven and know when to stop and get back on track. :)

  9. Jana Murray Says:

    Now that’s a sight to behold… (18 and over)

  10. Nikki Backshall Says:

Hmm….I believe that Ed said something along the lines of this in one of his recent vids…

(read the following text in an excitable, Australian accent - that has a slight hint of Rolf Harris about it)

“Everyone keeps asking where Dan is, well he’s around and working on some ‘really cool’ stuff and it’s gonna be huge”

    Now we know!!!

    Lol - good stuff! :-)

  11. Phill Says:

I checked Lively out Dan, but just kept getting a “joining room” note at the bottom of the screen and I didn’t see myself or anyone else come to that! Is this one of your little jokes? :)

  12. Snake Says:

I’m sitting on the deck chair.. on this 30dc island.. alone :(

    Ooo! A lava lamp!

  13. Eric Gehler Says:

I am on a PC and I was Just in the room… Added a Bed, Chairs, Night stand, etc… SO Leave my stuff Alone..if I catch you on my stuff their will be 30 Day Hell to pay –LOL ( just kidding obviously)

Main thing, the PC worked just fine. XP version anyway, no cancel or allow for me :(

  14. Ken Nadreau Says:

Yup, I’m in the same boat as Phill. It shows the island and all the stuff on it (including Eric’s things) but it says “joining room” only. Been trying since last night, but it won’t let me in.

Might be a Vista thing. If not, it’s always fun to blame Vista anyway :)

Thanks for thinking of our need for a little R & R though Dan

IMS does bring up a subject that’s off topic, but on my mind, and that’s “focus”. It might just be my ADD, but prioritizing does not come naturally to me. Especially when work can be play with lots of fun web gadgets…

  16. gary james Says:

I am trying my best to participate. I am stuck in a couple areas. I would also like to invite Ed or Dan to be my featured guest on an up coming show that I will squeeze in before Aug 1st. Can someone from TDC please communicate with me. You have my email and I will provide a phone number if necessary. But please help me to come up to speed.

  17. Donna Says:

My PC is in the shop… for the 2nd time in 10 months. Otherwise I’d jump on Lively, I’d love to see it though can you post a video?

Anyway we can pressure them to get the Mac version done sooner? I hate using my PC.

  18. adam Says:

Is that a bad copy of SecondLife…why Google wants to enter into everything…(i know, too much cash and too many engineers at Google)
