The WHY Series…Why should you do everything we tell you.
In the past two years of the challenge. I have steered away from giving to much theory. The majority of us thirty day challengers are beginners and I don’t want to confuse you.
This year we are trying something different. I am going to give you some theory (in a non-confusing way I hope) and then show you the action steps.
This is my first attempt at that - showing you why we are getting you to set up your browsers, download iTunes and join Facebook.
I want to introduce a rterm your going to hear again and again through the challenge (and it’s the true secret of Marketing Web 2.0 style)
Leverage
I would love your feedback on this - let me know in the comments section below.
And here is the video for your iTunes feed
I’d really like your feedback on this one in the comments section below
UPDATE - Remember the concepts are what I’m trying to get across - there will be detailed how-to steps for all of this through the challenge. So don’t worry if some of the site’s don’t mean anything to you -The idea is to give you some sense of how all this comes together. And thanks to the wag who pointed out how I missed adding the link to twitter! I’ll show you that when we get to twitter - one of the best kept secrets (until now) in Internet Marketing!

Wow … have I got a lot to learn, but I’m sure glad to have crossed your path Ed. I’m all ears and ready to take action.
This is one great video worth watching a few times … if just to let it sink in deep.
Thanks and all the best,
Bob
July 29th, 2007 at 9:37 pm
I am EXTREMELY interested in how you leverage in this way…i am sure you are going to show us how to leverage into the hundreds of links per page….:)
July 29th, 2007 at 9:38 pm
I would agree with Bob, certainly worth watching at least a second time.
If I take one thing from this video, it is the re-affirming of the fact that the power is in the details. Detailed follow-through really creates a powerful effect from simple, yet effective efforts.

Great video. Eye-opening. I’m starting to see the power of leverage using Web 2.0 and social media
Keep up the great multimedia!
July 29th, 2007 at 9:49 pm
I agree with the others. Great Video.
I think it’s important to learn the why, otherwise I might be tempted to skip a step thinking it’s not very important.
Jeff
July 29th, 2007 at 9:53 pm
That was brilliant. pretty straight forward but really hit home. I’m going to start using these techniques from now on.
Thanks

Awesome Video!
I wish I had know some of these things months ago when I first started trying to use internet marketing.
Can’t hardly wait till the 1st…keep the great videos coming!
Now, I am off to watch this one again.
Thanks!
July 29th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
Ed,
Please continue with “The WHY Series”! That was a great video! There was nothing confusing it about what you where doing. I’m more excited now!
I think that if you continue to do the videos separately you can give everyone what they want. If someone only wants to watch the action videos then they can. However, if you want or need a deeper understanding of the Action video, then you can watch the Why video. Personally, I would watch both.
Thanks,
Kitwana
July 29th, 2007 at 9:57 pm
This is a good video for someone who knows what you are talking about, but it was way over my head. I will have to watch it a few times later in the challenge when it makes more since I hope.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:02 pm
The lesson is that tools are everywhere on the web. It’s learning where to look for them, have other people look for them and tell you about them and learning how to use those tools effectively. Leverage has always been the difference between a mediocre marketer and and a brilliant one. There are so many ways to get leverage. Thanks for showing us one more opportunity. As always Ed, the info is fresh and very informative.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:03 pm
I like it and I’ll tell you why.
Showing us what and how is terrific. But it means far less without really knowing WHY.
The Pre-season set-up, and perhaps some of the Challenge itself, involve some cramming.
Rather than discovering these paths slowly ourselves, having them taught, by a trusted team of experts,
is a great time saver with great odds.
But we sacrifice a bit of the understanding people have when they have naturally found, been interested, and engaged something.
That is why the WHY is critical as part of showing us these applications.
Thank you for all the effort!
-Ed
July 29th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
I agree with Bob. I’ve been trying to make a go of this Internet Marketing thing for the past 4 years. I’m fairly OK on the technical side of things, but I’ve got a LOT to learn about Marketing, especially Web2.0!
Ed - I think you lost me after the first couple of minutes! It would probably take me half an hour to do what you say you can do in 90 seconds! Of course, you are zipping from one thing to another as it’s second nature to you. I hope we can all get up to your speed
But all in all a really helpful video. I think it does give us an insight into the “why” and just shows how much is ‘out there’ if you know where to look.
Cheers
Dave
July 29th, 2007 at 10:04 pm
Outrageously helpful, Dale. Seeing you walk through each step makes it seem much more clear and do-able. Highly motivating, it is!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:07 pm
I’m on my 3rd viewing, lots of good info! I am somewhat familiar with squidoo..still learning the ropes. The video is a definite awesome idea. I am a visual person, myself. Thank you for taking the time to make these and KEEP THEM COMING!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:07 pm
I like it Ed.
I prefer to know why I should be doing things before I do them.
Now I see how important this stuff is.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:09 pm
Great video just shows me too I have a hell of a lot to learn, wish I had a mac !!!!!!!!!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:11 pm
Very powerful stuff Mr. Dale.
I had been using Stumbleupon and delicious for promotion, now I can add flickr and the other tools you’ve shown me. Thanks.
-Adam
July 29th, 2007 at 10:15 pm
Awesome video - and wish I had known this stuff this past year. Can’t wait to get started - thanks for the great vid.
Nancy
July 29th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
Yes! I want the why series! It will empower me to use the concepts after the challenge is over.
I think I would let some of this gold fall by the wayside after I follow the instructions once, if I don’t
understand why I’m doing it
July 29th, 2007 at 10:21 pm
I think the “whys” are just as important as the “dos” Ed. I have an enquiring mind and like to know the reasons behind things, why they work and why they don’t.
If you’re happy to do the vids, then those that don’t want to know the behind the scenes stuff can always pass them by, but for this little black duck, Telstra’s antiquated copper wire will be running hot through the night to download them all.
Cheers mate!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
well done - i like to know the “why” of things, too. thanks, ed!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:26 pm
Hi, Ed.
Wow, you really opened my eyes to the possibilities! I’m one who needs to know the “why” of everything I do, so yes, I think this is great. Please keep it up.
Beth
July 29th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Ok, I’m a dork. I admit it. It is way over my head. What is Squidoo? And what are lenses?
(Off to do some clearly needed research . . . )
July 29th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Ah hah! the power of Teams, fantastic stuff Thanks Ed
July 29th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
I like the Idea of the WHY series. I was thinking to myself, “Why exactly are we doing this stuff? For what exactly?” so the post gave me a nice, “ahhhhh” moment. I would definitely like to see more WHY posts.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:29 pm
Hey Ed
Looks like i have a long way to go. looks like this stuff really
works but with some guidance i know i can get it going
lets go for it
Bruce
July 29th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
Thanks Ed, yes please, keep the WHY videos coming as they are especially good ‘background info’ for complete Newbies like me who are gaining awareness of how important ALL the pcs. of the internet jigsaw are for IM.if we are to venture into this as a serious business. Just remember there are some 60 yr. old eyeballs out there too, trying to keep up with you as you dart about!
I am looking forward to being able to do all this taggin’ an’ linkin’ stuff as I already see the leverage value.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Excellent WHY and a lot of good how, as well! I’m sure it’ll become even clearer once we begin the challenge and begin to understand the bigger picture.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Looks very impressive, but some of it was over my head - at present. But I’m sure Uncle Ed will make it very understandable.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
Hi Ed, interesting, gives the big picture, moves along pretty fast though. Makes me real aware that I have to get all the parts in place. I am sort of treating the challenge like it is internet marketing course for the month of August. Having the big picture here and there will be helpful, then we can have the light bulb moments when things make sense.
A lot of stuff going on, but it is making sense
bruce
July 29th, 2007 at 10:37 pm
Yes I agree, it was rather quick. Maybe too much, and too much at once.
Sometimes you’re better off learning three things quite well, than 5 things marginally.
Add on resources can be supplied later……
Just a thought
July 29th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
That was fantastic Ed. I learned so much. Now all I have to do is take it apart a few times til I get it on autopilot like you have it. I love it! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Alexandra
July 29th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
Great video…I appreciate the time you spend on these challenges!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:38 pm
And here’s a question for you: Another blogger says that we should not be Stumbling our own sites. Thoughts on that?
July 29th, 2007 at 10:39 pm
My feelings have been pretty much covered by many of the other posters.
Outrageously helpful to see such a demo in action - really helps bring the power of all these Web 2.0 resources to life in a step by step way. I’m also looking forward to seeing how we tie things together with a few of the other tools/platforms.
So a big….BIG…..YEEESSSS from me to your question.
and please keep these vids going throughout the coming 30 days….and beyond. (yeah, i know. now i’m really pushin’ the friendship :o) )
July 29th, 2007 at 10:44 pm
It was somewhat confusing for me. The post by Bob is right, it is worth watching again to follow all the moves you made.
Thanks.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:45 pm
Yes, by all means keep telling us why. The “why” provides context for learning the details. Without context the step-by-step is like memorizing a paragraph in a foreign language…you’d hardly know if you left out a sentence or two. I can always go back to the map, or ask a question, if I get lost while executing an activity. If I don’t know what I’m trying to accomplish, I won’t know to ask the question.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:46 pm
Look Ed, seeing “why” along with the “how” just doubled my interest - far more powerful than just “what to do next” videos, mate.
But I still don’t “get” Twitter, damn it - still seems to me like a lot of dross (like, Dan is eating a toastie - good on him! … hope he enjoyed it!) hiding the occasional diamond (like, the links). How about a “why” video to open our eyes on that too … please?
July 29th, 2007 at 10:47 pm
Very good Ed, getting a good workflow is the key to leveraging your attention. Good tools are underpin a good workflow as you demonstrate. If the 30DC gang can hunt in packs they are going to make inroads very very quickly. As a fellow Mac head I am interested in what you use for screen capture? Dean
July 29th, 2007 at 10:48 pm
Great video Ed. Most people learn a lot quicker if they have some structure to plug new data into - our brains are wired that way. Giving us an overview and a reason why we are going to learn something makes the
technical stuff that is coming down the road a lot easier to comprehend — we have a structure to hang this new data on.
I’m looking forward to the rest of the challenge, it’s going to be an awesome month.
Cheers!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Hi Ed, awesome video. Though I am familiar with most of the tools and techniques highlighted in the video, watching it did help me to put a couple of steps together in a meaningful way. Thanks for that! As to your question: personally, I would make the “why” videos an optional extra, an aside if you will. That way, those of us who want to know the why of things can check it out, and those who are happy with the what can grab that without getting bogged down with the details. If they wish they can return to it later, as their experience (and comfort level) grows.
Marc
July 29th, 2007 at 10:49 pm
Leverage. That’s something the big man Anthony Robbins talks about from memory and is a word that has stuck with me ever since.
Personally I love knowing the ‘WHY’. I’m a big picture kind of person and knowing how everything connects together gives me a better understanding of everything involved.
Yeehar!
July 29th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
I haven’t found the time to see your other videos, especially what has to be on my Firefox, but as I could see on this video, I already have a few function set up.
The video itself is good from the content, but not so nice to view. A bit hard to follow with your eyes. To much up and down and to close - no overview and so hard to follow. As an overview or hint of what to expect it is just fine.
All over I like it and hope to see more of such kind.
If you could make such a video for each week of the 30DC and give it to us before the weekend that would be great. This way I get an overview of what is to come, which would help me to plan my time better.
Looking forward to the 30DC.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:52 pm
I can see that you have just linked a bunch stuff to other stuff. What I dont get is what that does for me?
July 29th, 2007 at 10:53 pm
Great stuff Ed!!! Needs to be watched several times to fully comprehend it. A cheat sheet would be most helpful! Thanks.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:54 pm
The video was great. It ties everything together. I vote for continuing the WHY videos.
July 29th, 2007 at 10:58 pm
That’s AMAZING!! I am seeing the power of web2.0 as well. Keep showing us.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
Yup, I appreciate the why videos very much. Keep ‘em coming
July 29th, 2007 at 11:07 pm
Great video thanks Ed - keep going with this “WHY” format as well as the “HOW”! Awesome
Peter
July 29th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
I’m sure it was a great video but I’ll admit I didn’t have the faintest as to what you was going on about. You might have been talking martian for all i knew all it did for me is make me consider giving up before I start.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:09 pm
The video shows the potential of what can be done, but to really “get it,” I think I’d need a text summary of what you did, as well. Other than by hearsay, all the sites and tools you used are new to me as of last week, so it was a little challenging to follow along. On the other hand, the video sure beats trying to interpret printed step-by-step instructions, or trying to understand a purely verbal or textual explanation.
Additionally, a definition of the term that you are illustrating–in this case “leverage”–would be helpful beforehand. I could sort of pull out an inductive interpretation based on you were doing, but I’m still not sure that I could state succinctly what “leverage” is.
So, yes, I’m in favor of this technique, but I think it would be enhanced if you would start with a definition and end with a printed summary.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:14 pm
Ed, I loved the video. It looks to me like the Yes’ have it by a wide margin. I add my yes also. I really liked Gerald S’s idea about the cheat sheets. Might you consider it? If you could go a tad bit slower on the videos it would really be helpful to me. Thanks for the great program you all are putting together for us.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:16 pm
Thought the video was great. Understand in principle what you were doing. but have no idea how to do it. guess we will after the 30 day challenge is over or underway. also need to watch again to let more sink in.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
Looks pretty cool, Ed, but right now I’m totally overwhelmed with info — despite spending my entire weekend trying to watch the videos, catch up, & get my toolbars to look like yours (to no avail). I’m 100% new to all of this, so right now this video seems like too much information. Sometimes less is more… or maybe a slower pace would help.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:23 pm
Great demonstration of the “why”, some will need to know more about seo and how powerful what you just demonstrated was, before they have a lightbulb moment. Yes, and more pictures of your “axe” collection.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:24 pm
I am usually pretty good at following along, but this video really confused me. I do have faith in you though to show us exactly what and how to use all these items when the challenge starts. You did several things at once, and for someone like me who is new to del.i.cious, scribe fire, and the like is was really too much at once without breaking everything up into bits.
I do love the videos, I’m not bitching, just trying to give some honest feedback. I still think you are definately “The Man” for taking your time to teach us all for free. Thanks!!
July 29th, 2007 at 11:31 pm
I’m not a 100% sure of what you did or how you did it but it seems totally cool.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
Snagit, is a good software for screen capture, for windows users!
July 29th, 2007 at 11:37 pm
Really like the why videos as I am a visual person. However, I also hope that there will be step by step that we can download and/or print out for the parts for which we are not that familiar. I am really looking forward to the 30 day challenge and hope that it will make a big difference in how my IM efforts go in the future. Thanks for doing this.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:40 pm
This is an excellent video showing us how to take advantage of EVERYTHING that web 2.0 has to offer.
In other words, you are showing is the whole elephant, and not just the tail or the trunk. Also, it makes us THINK what other step can I make to get the MOST leverage of each action I am doing.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:48 pm
I had read somewhere, that you needed five “whys” to discover the main root of your purpose for doing something. Keep the “why” coming.
This reminds me of a child asking, “why?” of a parent, when they don’t understand their reasoning. They continue with the whys, until they get to the answer they can relate to.
This is the first of “actions steps”, from any of the Ebooks, videos, and such from the internet, that I was grasping the concepts or they were preludes to this challenge to tie them all together. I am seeing the potential of what I am doing, to apply this to any business I can create on the internet.
Thanks,
The “why” IS sinking in! I am having those “light bulb” moments, and that is exciting.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:56 pm
WOW! Did a twister just blow through? Ed you have a ton of great stuff. I had no idea what you were talking about at first, but at the end i caught on. I think once i get everything set up on my pc the way you have and able to wrap my brain around all this new tech., i will be able to follow along a lot better. Thanks for you time and your knowledge.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:03 am
Great video and thank you for the example of how to leverage our work. I am really looking forward to Weds.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:07 am
I think the “WHY” videos will be an excellent addition to the 30DC. I’d like you take it a bit slower with the demonstration, though, because you are providing a huge amount of information. I’ll play it through again several times and I’m sure I’ll “get it”.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:12 am
Hi Mr. Ed
Great video (especially with my good buddy Barbie in a feature roll) LOL
Seriously though I have always appreciated covering the theory. (classroom instruction) Then taking it into the field for the practical (hands on down and dirty)
I just feel more comfortable with learning new things that way.
You and your team are doing an awesome job (you make it come alive)
A very big thank you for that….
July 30th, 2007 at 12:14 am
The movements around the screen are rather jerky and I am struggling to follow along. I gave up about three quarters of the way through. I think I need to go back to the beginning (of the videos - all of them) and start again. Maybe then I will start to get it. I wish I would have some light bulb moments. I sure need them.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:14 am
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!!
s
July 30th, 2007 at 12:32 am
Ahh, and this is why a team of 5 is better than a team of 3
Makes sense. Ok, as an answer to the name of this post, I would say that I personally like knowing “why” we are doing it, as it fits in with my “Teach a man to fish” method of learning, as opposed to the cram fish in his mouth and make him swallow it method. I think I can retain more if I understand the why and how of it.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:58 am
Ed, this is absolutely brilliant stuff! I’ve been “playing” with web 2.0 stuff for over a year now, and could never quite figure out how to fit it all together. Your video was a serious lightbulb moment for me and I now really and truly get it more than I ever have before. Before I saw the potential, but now I can see how to get the results! Thanks a million, and don’t you dare even think about not doing anymore of these Why videos — they are seriously needed and appreciated!
July 30th, 2007 at 2:25 am
Hi Ed,
Great vid!
It’s good to get different angles on a subject. I think it will help a lot of people.
July 30th, 2007 at 2:34 am
I think I see where you are going with this, but as to my getting there???? But I do find the why really useful
July 30th, 2007 at 2:59 am
Ed,
One the one hand it feels like I just jumped into a ‘level 5 whitewater’ river to learn how to swim. On the other hand, that’s the way I learn the best - jumping in.
It’s scary how much there is to learn from the ‘panicked-control-freak-having-everything-in-order’ perspective. It’s also very exciting.
From your video, it’s clear about WHY leverage is so powerful and ultimately it brings to mind the realization that this is exactly the currency of the internet ===>links to the nth power
July 30th, 2007 at 3:03 am
A lot of information in a very short space of time. Great content, but I would imagine a lot of ‘Newbies’ heads are going to explode watching this
Very fast presentation with a lot of skipping around. Moving pages around quickly in Camtasia I’ve always found a bit of a ‘no-no’. Makes everything looked rushed.
But the beauty of video is you can watch it again and again
Get used to the learning curve guys, this is only the start!
July 30th, 2007 at 3:05 am
(Some of my comment got cut off…)
July 30th, 2007 at 3:07 am
Thanks Ed.
You’re an amazing teacher.
Michael
July 30th, 2007 at 3:18 am
Guday, Ed
I have always believed that it is good practice to outline the whys and wherefores of what people are teaching as it really does give the trainees a much better understanding of where the teacher is coming from.
It also gives a great prospective toward the final outcome….
Great content…
July 30th, 2007 at 3:21 am
Thanks for a vid that I will be watching a few times until I master the sequence.
I don’t suggest you go any slower even tho’ first viewing I havn’t ‘got’ it- that’s what I use the pause button for and another screen to duplicate and a pad to note the sequence next viewings.
I don’t expect you to provide an encycopeadia of all the stuff taught otherwise we should be paying you a hefty tutors fee!!
Now if you can just tell me ‘why’ I can’t get the podcasts to open in itunes (or download) I will be able to take ‘action’ that doesn’t involve me hitting my head on a wall.
July 30th, 2007 at 3:39 am
Too cool. I have just signed to Facebook. I didn’t realize you could do all of this stuff with it.
July 30th, 2007 at 3:54 am
nice, but a bit too quick and maybe a bit too long
July 30th, 2007 at 3:56 am
[...] just finished watching Ed’s video on Facebook for the thirty day challenge. I was intending to send a friend invite just to the people in my team [...]
July 30th, 2007 at 4:24 am
Hi Ed,
just continue in this new way of teaching/presenting…it’s brilliantly useful and informative!
It’s a 30DC, isn’t it?… so, it needs to be a challenge. It needs to push us to test our limits and to move them further and further.
We’ll realize very soon how powerful and useful is knowlegde and motivation we are receiving from You in this moment in time.
It’s not easy to reach the top in any department, to be in touch with and even more importantly to use it every day at our work/life. But, You know how to present it in a very simple way.
Everything is recorded and presents longer lasting value and great tool to learn. You can repeat it as many times as you need it to understand it well.
I didn’t feel your excitement at the begining of your videos, but I’ve got really excited in the moment I was spending many hours installing Firefox and add-ons, and all those new programmes and Stumble!-ing.
I know that You’ll keep surprising us every single day….and I know that one day We’ll surprise other people by sharing results of our 30DC.
Many thanks, ervin
July 30th, 2007 at 4:45 am
wow i was just blown away by that video, it pulled everything together and made sense of why we’ve been doing everything we’ve been doing so far, for me it was like when daniel in the karate kid doesn’t understand why he has to wax the cars, paint the fence and sand the deck but in one brilliant moment it all comes together for him when he realizes it all had a purpose………………thanks ed
July 30th, 2007 at 5:11 am
Oh dear it completely baffled me!
It may be that I haven’t understood what is meant by ‘leverageing’; a basic concept I know but it has a number of meanings.
OK I’ve only viewed the video once so this is a knee-jerk reaction. I learnt a lot by going though the material on 2006’s 30 day challenge and this year I’m looking forward to being in the thick of it from the outset this time round.
Ed’s style is fun & easy to follow and I’m sure I’ll soon have a Del:cious Facebook with Flickr’ing Fires everywhere, Mac or No Mac!
July 30th, 2007 at 5:12 am
Gee!!!
Know I start getting why I spent all Sunday setting up Firefox, etc.
But do not ask me to repeat what you just showed.
Hope we get that in some more simple steps later on.
Or maybe I am the dummy here?
Anyhow, the general idea is great.
All the best to you Ed. Great job.
Kirsten
July 30th, 2007 at 5:23 am
It’s a very good video , and it shows the power of the web 2.0 trick’s
July 30th, 2007 at 5:31 am
My mom says my first word was why, and i’m still asking to this day. how doesn’t matter until i know why.
Great video, but way too fast for my slow eyes.
July 30th, 2007 at 5:42 am
Hi Ed,
Great video. Many thanks
Eliseo
July 30th, 2007 at 5:42 am
More Why for me please…

Hi Ed,
10/10 This is good stuff. I need to get back into modern society. Living as an IM recluse is too easy.

Ed, this is just soooo cool. Just “bwilliant Wick” (Young Ones ref). I’m also starting to be convinced I need a Mac rather than PC.
Thanks so much for sharing this stuff - makes so much sense now it’s all being used together
July 30th, 2007 at 6:37 am
Best video so far! I really need to set up flickr seems really great! I’m going to try blog posting using scribefire to!
July 30th, 2007 at 6:51 am
I loved it Ed. It seems I have a lot to learn!
July 30th, 2007 at 7:07 am
Hi Ed great stuff,
I’m a need to know why person. Now I do.
Its going to help my marketing efforts no end.
Still have problem with sound quality, this video and the Facebook one all the others are OK so its not my PC.
Any suggestions

Hello Ed,
Thank you! Really helped me understand the utility of all this Web 2.0 stuff. Fantastic.
July 30th, 2007 at 7:45 am
The “why” video has really helped. I vote yes. Thanks, Ed. Dean
July 30th, 2007 at 7:54 am
Hi Ed,
The Why series is a great idea but this one went over my head and you seemed to be clicking and doing some stuff a little too quickly.
I will rewatch the video a few times to let it sink in and maybe comment again.
Keep up the great work mate.

Hi Ed,
WOW, this is going to be an exciting 30 days. I do have alot to learn I am still in a little bit of fog, however I
don’t think that will be the case by the end of this 30 days. Thanks!
July 30th, 2007 at 8:40 am
Can’t wait to get started!
July 30th, 2007 at 9:21 am
Hi Ed, I can’t hear a blind word you’re saying. probably something wrong with my second-hand head set. So you can put me down as one of the confused ones. I’ll be making a last effort to connect with my group, which is pretty confusing too. Lot’s of conflicting advice going on and the video you sent - that I COULD hear clearly, with the young man in the balaclava - just scared the socks off me. So… if I have to unsubscribe I’ll let you know. Thanks for an intersting idea.
July 30th, 2007 at 9:23 am
What I dont understand is why you are promoting someone else’s lensroll on your blog instead of perhaps your own webpage. But I will leave the explaining for later. I got plenty of new programs to master
July 30th, 2007 at 9:53 am
Great video Ed.
I think a quick summary of the steps you took would be a great addition to these type of videos.
I got the concept but got lost in the detail.
Looking forward to the challenge and learning some fantastic new web 2.0 marketing ideas!
Cheers,
Peter

wow! i have alot to learn, just hope i can master it all someday. thanks ed this is great stuff.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:00 am
Wow! The video was extremely eye opening! Although I do use a lot of web 2.0 applications for leverage, I hadn’t thought to further the leverage in the ways you have show here.
Glen and I have been working on this site for a few months now and just unleashed it to the public a few weeks back. I must thank Barb for bringing it to Facebook thus the leverage was set in motion….Hoorah!
I look forward to the 30DC…now back to the video again.
Keep up the great content Ed - Dan
July 30th, 2007 at 10:01 am
Ed - Great video! It has really become clear to me over the last week that I learn best when I can SEE what is being done and then follow along on the second time through. This went a bit quickly but with further description throughout the 30 days, I think I’ll be ok.
I’ve got to say that I’ve learned more in the last week about what can be done on the Internet with my computer than I’d learned over the previous 10 years. You guys are doing a great job.
Thanks!
July 30th, 2007 at 10:02 am
Hey Ed, great video. Understanding the “why” of something helps me with the motivation part. Thanks for adding in the “Why?”
July 30th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Congratulations. Ed.
Overall the video(s) opened my eyes to possibilities I didn’t know existed. The genius of your method of presentation is that you are able to anticipate that some of us are severely limited by lack of prior exposure to even the existence of the tools/techniques you are presenting. I would find it even more useful if the presentation were almost in bullet format: (1) What you are going to show us; (2) Why it will be useful to us; (3) Steps in how the tool/technique(s) is applied in the instance you are demonstrating; and (4) Other (or, additional) applications/uses of the tools/techniques presented. Looking forward to introduction by you of yet more “cool” stuff.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:29 am
It’s slowwwwllllly starting to sink in, but like others I will need it broken down into smaller steps. In fact - a step-by-step guide would be awesome for this task-oriented person. I am also a visual learner, so I appreciate the videos. At times I wish the screen was bigger because sometimes you are clicking on things offscreen. Great job, though and a big thank you!
July 30th, 2007 at 10:36 am
Hi Ed, that video was great. I kinda missed a part somewhere where you get the graphics & put it into Scribefire. Was a bit fast.
Hope the step are a wee bit slower.
Thanks for your time. Look forward to the challenge
July 30th, 2007 at 10:52 am
This is an awesome step by step, help manual & training program! I really like the video instruction. I do agree I’m a need to know why person as well, however I do understand the ‘do as I say, and you will understand later’ technique that is being used here. Thank you for all of your hard work and submitting yourself to all of the harsh criticism. This is all really great stuff!
July 30th, 2007 at 11:15 am
Great video. In fact, all of the pre-season videos have been great. I think that it is just as important to learn the why as it is the how-to. It helps people to comprehend better and gives purpose to the process.
July 30th, 2007 at 11:29 am
Ed, I like the idea of this new approach. It is easy for beginners to blindly follow and not have a full understanding of *why* they are doing what they are doing. I think once the challenge is over, these videos will make even more sense as it will tie everything together and create a greater understanding of the material. This is awesome stuff, please keep it coming!
July 30th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
thanks for all this info. I am a newbie so it is still all above my head but I am trying to get it.
July 30th, 2007 at 12:30 pm
I can’t wait until I can begin learning all the “how-to’s” involved in internet marketing!!!!
I’m anxiously waiting….
July 30th, 2007 at 1:21 pm
Mr Dale,
I have watch all the videos and podcasts a number of times and find it all very new to me, but interesting. I can’t wait to see how they all tie together.
Cheers
July 30th, 2007 at 1:42 pm
Good video…I just don’t understand why I should do this.
July 30th, 2007 at 1:45 pm
Please keep the why in your presentations. I’m new to everything in this challenge. For me, knowing the why makes the how more understandable. My gut feeling at this moment is the why may be the true secret to the big picture of Internet Marketing. I don’t think you can preform and/or possibly improve the how unless you know the why behind it.
July 30th, 2007 at 2:44 pm
Ed, your a bloody genius!
July 30th, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Hi Ed
Great video. Please keep the why videos. It is still a lot to take in and I will need to watch the video again. However, it reinforces why I should do things and puts things into context. However, I’m not familiar with squidoo. Would it be possible to have a glossary that we can quickly refer to? Unfortunately, my job is busy and I work long days which means that my time is limited at the moment and can only concentrate on the must dos.
Thanks Ed.

[...] watching a video about leverage on the Thirty Day Challenge Blog, I have learned new ways on how to use all the social utilities [...]
July 30th, 2007 at 3:01 pm
I have no idea what squidoo or lenses are either. I am guessing it’s a bit like the amazon favourites list? Or NY times bestseller list.
Had to watch a couple of times and take notes. I think it would be easier once you have done it yourself a few times.
Can I move my blog over to this or do you have to start over?
I understood the coding through and have heard of flickr and pingmatic (but not pingoat). Even understood the RSS feed and have heard of technorati. So once it all falls into place I may get somewhere!
How do you do these screen videos? There must me a lot of mileage with those alone on the net. Tutorials for everything…
July 30th, 2007 at 3:18 pm
Ed, I found it useful, but overwhelming at the same time. I have no experience with this world of blogging and doing the things you demonstrate, so I was dizzy and confused by the end. I did, however immediately sign up at Facebook. I trust that, with practice, it will all make sense soon. Kevin
July 30th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
Great video. We are starting to see how much the teams are important in the challenge!
July 30th, 2007 at 4:13 pm
Ed, This leaves me utterly amazed and grateful to have stumbled on the 30DC. Amazing stuff and stuff I will go back to again and again. I for one will burn the DVD to put it all on.
July 30th, 2007 at 4:20 pm
LOOKS like a good video but I couldnt hear it at all…:(

July 30th, 2007 at 5:45 pm

But I really hope that this is idiot-proof… hehe..
Take care and good luck to everyone

Sweet…the TDC rocks!!
July 30th, 2007 at 6:36 pm
Hi Ed,
I liked the “Why” video — although I almost got motion sickness as you moved around the screen so quickly.
However, I never felt like the “why” was missing in last year’s challenge. I think you mentioned or made the connections to why we were doing the steps as you explained how & what we were doing. But, since the strategy has changed for this year and you feel there is a need to teach differently, I’d say follow your instincts, and know that we will not lose whichever way you present the material.
My 17 year old is appalled that I am on Facebook — invading his territory. I told him it’s for work, not pleasure!
Only two more sleeps!
Cheers,
Linda

July 30th, 2007 at 7:09 pm
Hi Ed,
The “why” angle certainly adds a wallop to the process.
I had an idea.
How about adding a little “recipe-style” checklist under future videos?
Like…
1. Go to X website.
2. Click on your Stumble “I like it” button.
3. Now go to Y, click on…
This way, everyone can follow along immediately, after watching the video and understanding the how and why.
I think the benefit will be that more people will follow along with the assignments because they will not have to try and remember what happened during the course of the video.
Here’s an analogy. It’s like a cooking show…you see all the ingredients that the chef is putting together, but it all moves very fast and because of a moment of inattention you may miss a step or two when you try it yourself. However, with a recipe printout, you can now duplicate the process much more accurately.
Cheers,
Saleem
July 30th, 2007 at 8:06 pm
I like the step-by-step video. I just recently learned about Squidoo Lens. I’m still trying to figure out how that can help drive traffic to my site. I’m new at this internet marketing and I hope to learn from the 30 day challenge.
Thanks!
July 30th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Scribe Fire is a very powerful tool. And I just get to know it.
Thanks Ed for showing us the power of web2.0.
July 30th, 2007 at 8:26 pm
Hell yes.
Speaking of recipes and cooking shows, this was one of the most tasty videos yet.
You’re taking some ingredients I’ve already been using and combining them with others
I’m just learning about.
And the Leverage of Teams…I’m sold.
Thanks for this. Please keep them coming!

Like others have stated, I am just learning about Web 2.0 and want to learn more about using it in marketing my business and work.
Video was helpful. Will watch it again though. Thank you.
July 30th, 2007 at 10:25 pm
I hope I can understand this in 30 days, but as of right now I’m totally confused. But one thing for sure, i will make it work for me, since I see that i will have a good support team working with me. Thanks for being their for me because I’m going to need a lot of assistance. —Billy
July 30th, 2007 at 11:21 pm
I should not have had a glass of wine before watching this one :). My brain is on information overload right now and I see that the months of figuring it out on my own will not compare at all to the upcoming month with the experts holding my hand. I just have to remember to drink my glass AFTER the lessons are done. Shoot.
July 30th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
Yes, the video did help connect the dots in this very new (for me) game. There were a few portions that were a bit hazy, but as you said in the vid, we will learn more about this in the 30dc. I do love all of the cool new stuff I am being exposed to! Thanks Ed, Dan and Team!
July 31st, 2007 at 1:22 am
Ed I am interested in the WHY SERIES, please keep posting more as I am determined to learn all I can to increase daily earning and become part of the community
Thank you so much Ed
July 31st, 2007 at 2:01 am
Great video, and please keep doing the WHYs. I got lost a little, but at least I can go back and watch it again.
Thanks for all the great content!
July 31st, 2007 at 2:14 am
I can’t seems to watch the video on this site, also it’s not showing up on my 30DC iTunes Podcast.
Help, would love to watch the video…
July 31st, 2007 at 3:45 am
I being quite inquisitive, love knowing the WHY. This gives myself the opportunity to understand why from other peoples perception and possibly add my experience to achieve even better results . Sometimes it is not better, but rather a more tailored solution for my applications.
July 31st, 2007 at 5:13 am
What a great video, keep them coming Ed, as always I am blown away with the knowledge you share so freely.
Understanding how to apply the tools creates a new meaning to leverage.
Cheers.

I’m dealing with DIGG, STUMBLEUPON, DELICIO.US, FEED BURNER, TECHNOCRATI, 3TABLELESS, etc., since few month, but the way you explain it is great. Where I do have problems is Video and Audio presentations and technology. Is there someone who can recommend a good “ABC” ebook / step-by-step guide about Video, Audio and how to use them on the Internet? Thanks a lot.

Ed–
This is very good for me. I’m having trouble stringing it all together, but i know that was just a quick run-through. I know you know what you’re talking about, so i can’t wait to actually get started on Wed!
July 31st, 2007 at 5:12 pm
Ed-
Wow - am I excited to be part of this! Even though many of those applications are ones that I am learning and just becoming familiar with, your video was a great way to show the importance of using all of them and pulling them together.
Preseason has been fun and informative -and listening to you and Dan (with your enthusiasm, patient attitude for newbies, and of course your brilliant accents) make it more interesting! The videos are also great since I am a visual learner…

Ed: This is great! Knowing why is more important than knowing what, so kudos to you for giving us both.
July 31st, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Wow!
Being the part-owner of Lensroll.com (with Greg Ray) I must say I am quite floored at this presentation. Absolutely brilliant!
Even if it didn’t use Lensroll.com as the site being demonstrated it is still a well executed instructional video.
My only regret is that for the month of August I will be busy, busy, busy with moving house. In fact I should be packing right now for the August 18th move. Then there’s all the unpacking. So my 30 day challenge is surviving a big move out to rural Australia.
July 31st, 2007 at 7:32 pm
Thanks for the video. It put together some things I hadn’t though of before. I really liked the Skitch program, but alas I am a Windows user. So, I went surfing around. I found this great tool, Jing. http://www.jingproject.com/
It looks to have good leverage and sharing possibilities. The great thing is that it works on Win and Mac. Share with all your friends.

Ed,
Thanks for the opportunity to participate in the Thirty Day Challenge! I am a novice to internet/website terminology, surfing, installing programs, using the tools etc. so each exercise is a challenge for me but through perseverance and your well-designed instructional videos, I am making progress. Knowledge is power and by the end of the Challenge, with your continued support and guidance, I will feel powerful because of the knowledge that you will have helped me gain. I also appreciate the opportunity to learn how to earn money on the internet. Continued success to you in your endeavors!

Awesome video, Ed, but wow do I have a lot to learn! Unfortunately I was a bit confused by some of th e stuff you talked about in this particular video as some of it seemed a little fast paced. Sounds like I’m not alone in feeling this way so that’s cool! I’m sure by the end of the 30 days that I’ll feel more confident about all this! I look forward to this exciting challenge starting tomorrow -yeah!

Ed - I am really enjoying the “why” stuff you are covering. While I have known about all the web 2.0 things out there, I have yet to really understand how they can work for me and my business efforts. Actually watching you walk through them has caused all kinds of lights and whistles to go off in my head - in a good way! The applicatio piece you provide is wonderful as I am able to quickly make the connections.
Thanks

Brilliant and Thankyou!
Very Exciting Indeed!
August 4th, 2007 at 10:22 pm
Awesome, tremendous, etc.!! I’m giving a heads up to my other team members about this being a ‘must see’, in case they have not seen it yet, or gone through the pre-season material…(They probably have already).
Many thanks again for everything!!
August 4th, 2007 at 10:42 pm
Addendum…compared with this..did I get traffic before?…not!! My daughter (member of Stumble), once stumbled a single page on one of my sites, and traffic rose exponentially for a short while!. Did I bother to join until now…no.
August 5th, 2007 at 7:50 am
Geez, I am such a newbie, and here I thought I knew a lot about the net. I use Mozilla, not Firefox, dont know what RSS feeds or web 2.0 is/are. Got my first blog but in wordpress and most of what was said in the video was so far above me head I was quite discouraged but determined to stretch and grow anyway.
August 6th, 2007 at 12:38 am
Wow!
Great overview of the possibilities of Web 2.0 utilizing Facebook!! Thanks!
Being a “newbie”, it was over my head how fast you were copying, clicking, pasting, opening, closing, etc.LOL However, I got the jist of what you were trying to deomonstrate to us very clearly. That is really something!
I am appreciative of all this wonderful free training you are exposing me to!
Cheers!!

Wow. have to say that that one video is worth more than I’ve spent on the many producst I’ve bought. This is genius on an unprecendented level. I’m damn near speachless. I have so many things to sign up to now.
August 8th, 2007 at 9:39 am
Again Wow, You have taken the concept of Web 2.0 to the max. I thought I knew a thing or two, but your Leverage Video increased my understanding 10 fold!!
August 8th, 2007 at 9:13 pm
I understand the theory behind what you showed us and it is an awesome concept. As for the technical “how to do this” part I was lost, but that is really normal for me..lol
August 11th, 2007 at 10:16 am
Interesting. I’ll definately look into Lensroll and Squidoo once I’ve completed & fully integrated the material in the 30 Day Challenge.
Excellent Challenge, you’ve done really well with this. Thank you very much indeed for sharing it with us.
Best wishes,

wow! i have to say, i’ve just realised what you are teaching here! i’ve been running a website for a year or so and never “leveraged” the power of web 2.0 - the method in the video would bring about quite a staggering amount of traffic through the links/rss feeds - absolutely amazing - can’t wait to be able to do it in 90 seconds though, that’s a whole 30 day challenge on it’s own!
September 4th, 2007 at 11:19 am
WOW! so much content. Just about “TO START” the 30dc, as soon as I get all these prelims under my belt.
October 1st, 2007 at 11:40 pm
I vote YES for the “Why” videos, I’m like many others who commented….I like to have the big picture.
I do have the same question that JH S, Esq. asked above…..I’ve learned that it’s almost taboo to be bookmarking your own blog articles, something I was doing when I first started blogging but then stopped. Hope this is covered in the challenge.
Overall, I’m very happy to have found the 30DC, our group started today… very excited about learning more and more, thanks Ed!!

Hey Ed I’m ready to try and digest this great information. The video was great I’ve had a website for about 9 months now and had no idea you could leverage in the manner you did.
December 3rd, 2007 at 10:32 pm
Sorry, Ed, but this video went over my head in the stratosphere?
December 10th, 2007 at 8:14 am
This is a great video Ed. And a 30 day challenge looks like a great program. There is a way, however, to do this on a Windows machine. There’s a tool available called SnagIt and it’s free right now for older version.
I show a video how to use it and links on how to get it at http://www.DavidWilcoxsays.com.
