Hi 30DCers,
We are on the hunt for a volunteer within our community who is prepared to transcribe all of the upcoming 2009 30DC videos!
We are looking for someone reliable and who can commit to transcribing each video within 24 hours of their being made public to the community. We would also expect you to take screen grabs within the video to support the written words.
The transcriptions don’t need to be word for word… but they will need to accurately reflect the content of the video.
We will of course be rewarding such a volunteer, and I can promise you it will be something that is sought after and of tremendous value to your IM career.
So, if you are reading this, and thinking ‘yeah I can do that’, what we ask is that you create a sample transcription of Nez’s 30DC Pre-season video on iTunes (link below):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUVxp1CZE2s
The transcription should be in either Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format or as a Word doc.
Please then email the sample transcription as an attachment to: thirtydaychallenge@gmail.com and we will assess all applications and award this role accordingly. All applications need to be in by 5 pm Monday 20th July, EST.
I look forward to receiving your applications
Speak soon,
Ed
I wish I had the time for this. As it is I’m just auditing the 30DC this year, but I want to encourage anyone who thinks they can do this to go for it. I can’t think of a better way (other than acting on the information) to learn what Ed, Dan et al. are teaching. What a great opportunity!
This is important.
It serve to a group of people who learn better through paper and ink. Some preferred to learn over video and audio which is great.
Also, this help people like me who are deaf to learn and to understand.
Another advantage from marketing view is that this can easily be translated in different language thus you can create more content and serve to larger audience.
Hi Ed,
I could do this and would love to. But before I wow you with an “application”, I’m new to 30Dc and have a few quick questions.
- How many videos are there and at what average length. (ie. 30mins per day)
- When will the official 30DC begin? (August?)
- 24hrs from public availability….but, would I receive the videos early? (ie. have more than 24hrs to complete the tasks?)
Thanks so much,
Successfully Yours,
Jason Francis
Within 24 hours by one person is a big ask - what about travel time - time differences - other commitments etc you need several people and to schedule it in advance with them. You need to proof the video before release - right - and ideally when checking review the transcript too so links extra info can be added - pdf an word both handle links. Just my thoughts. Chris
I could probably do it. It would help to know how many videos there will be. Is that 30?
Hi
I am a medical transcriber and this would be easy for me. How long are the videos?
Hello Ed and Friends-
Casting Words budget transcription is a great price. I know it’s not volunteer work :(. Just a thought. castingwords.com
This isn’t the official word on the amount of work required because I don’t actually know what’s lined up for this year, but it may give you some idea of the commitment involved.
Based on last year, most of the videos were a max of 10mins in length. Some days there was just one, other days there could be 2 or 3. Previous years the transcripts have not been word for word, more capturing the essence of the lesson, but screengrabs are important.
Hope that helps.
Lisa
COOOOOL …..
Great post
Hi - darn, I just found this post and the deadline
(missed it as was my 40th b’day week!!)
I ‘unofficially’ started transcribing the preseason videos for you a couple of weeks ago, with screenshots of the key features in vids, ready for PDF format. I have heaps of experience in transcribing, especially from when I did my PhD (eg transcribed about 70 3hour interviews - joy!)
I offered to do this in a DM to Caro in one of 1st preseason tv shows (she said she would let me know and was grateful
- but I went ahead with the recordings anyway, to hopefully surprise you (knowing of course that they wouldn’t be ‘official’ unless approved later).
Now I find there is a formal application to do the transcribing and I have missed the deadline - eek! I also found that someone had done some unofficial transcripts in the forum, so I stopped to decide whether or not to continue transcribing.
Not sure what to do now, as would still love to help out - and to also continue testing the Livescribe Smartpen as a transcribing tool (see below)
But its ok if someone else has got the ‘job’. I haven’t gone to far into transcribing and was only the preseason videos of course.
Nonetheless, - if there’s still time to submit, let me know. I don’t expect anything in return either
Not sure if you will read this here - so may try emailing you just in case, as I don’t want to continue transcribing the videos if someone else is already doing it.
Thanks!

PS I have been using/testing the Livescribe SmartPen as one tool for transcribing - eg re-record the audio from the video, write notes to myself with the audio, use the audio features such as playback speed [slow down for easier typing], jump back/ahead, bookmark key points, etc - really does makes transcribing easier - how’s that for a cool extra use of a great tool for product creation!) - could make a video on that too
Hi, I started a 30-day blog challenge too. Good luck to us!
We could have thought about using Dragon 10 Software….that thing is amazing…
