I really need to talk more about the downside of everyone having the opportunity to have multiple voices on the Internet
In this day and age being driven by spite and revenge will never work out right in the end.

Unfortunately, we, and more importantly, a significant (and much loved) member of our community was the victim of such a campaign recently.

It is now over and the instigator has apologised in full. We accept his apology (and I suggest you read it as a character lesson on what can go wrong) and we are all going to move on.

UPSTART BLOGGER APOLOGY

    The truth always rises.

  2. MizzCindy says:

What a truly regrettable situation. Allison, Ed and Dan - you are all upstanding folks and regardless of any messages to the contrary, the overwhelming number of interweb inhabitants out there know this!

Kudos to you all simply for being who you are. I’m glad to know each of you.

    Cindy

  3. I had no idea that this situation had continued and esclated to such an extreme. This is truly unfortunate to say the least. Allison and the SWBN, Ed and Dan, you have resolved this in a most gracious and upstanding way ~ of course! That is the people I know you to be.

  4. jeff says:

You’d think the guy would take all the ads off the apology page. Geez. Real classy.

  5. Michelle says:

Wow! What an apology! And it all started from one poor review? I’m speechless…

  6. Graham says:

About time too. Now if he can just go to those sites he left defamatory comments and apologise too… I got embroiled in this after he called 30DCHome a Pitchfest. How can something be a pitchfest when the only thing promoted everyone either had or was offered a free copy of if they didn’t.
Of course if the real story here is that Ed gets paid by Apple for each mention of the iphone or Macs in general then yeah it was a pitchfest. How is that nervous tic Ed?

  7. Nat says:

First I’ve heard of this, so I don’t know the whole situation beyond what’s in the apology, but the apology strikes me as being a little forced.

The paragraph stating “Shortly after all of this occurred I contacted Ed Dale to make things right as it was made clear that Allison Reynolds was preparing to release the true story of the events described above” makes it sound as though he had no intention of correcting this until he was about to be called out on the carpet over it.

Hopefully that isn’t the case, and he had a change of heart because it was the right thing to do - not just because he got caught.

I would have posted this over there, but the comments are closed (probably for good reason too :D )

  8. Richard says:

I think everybody knows that Ed and Dan run an honest and legit business in Immediate Edge and all they do for us in 30DC. Keep up the good work guys

Just have to back up what Jeff says “Affiliate Promotions” galore on the apology page. Totally lacking in class

  9. David Leigh says:

It just shows you need to be careful how you act online as you may just end up destroying your own reputation. Having become embroiled in some of this I can honestly say it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke :)

  10. Jack Bresler says:

The ostensibly non-personal world of internet can easily make people forget that ethics and relationships are crucial to doing business - in the long run.

The testimony that Ashley Morgan provides to the motives and behavior patterns that drove this vain blitz make me wonder why anyone would ever want to do business with such a person.

The affiliate links - proof that even the apology was leveraged as a “business opportunity” - merely highlight the magnitude of help this person needs.

It truly invokes pity, because Ashley Morgan is probably a very talented young person, wasting the talent in a continuum of ill-advised greediness.

  11. Yes the truth always rises. I had no idea Alison had gone through this. I am pleased to have mnet her at Manchester and Tweet with her on Twitter. I suppose it is what Ed Dale said at the beginning in Manchester, you always end up with people hating you. His mum did a Google search only to see blog posts like “I hate Ed Dale” etc, etc. so look at it as a mark of respect.

People can act like Children and try and get attention either positively or negatively!

  12. Thanks everyone for the kind comments regarding this situation.

There are quite a few things to learn from all of this I can tell you !

I have had the privilege of the wonderful support and help from many friends during this time. @lisahartwell @harmonicbarbie @ed @ed_dale @danraine @brenthodgson my family - and of course all of you that are now reading about this now and showing your support at the end of a difficult, and sometimes bizarre, situation.

    Thank you all.

  13. I had no idea this was happening.

Writing nasty hateful lies about good people is ‘beyond sad’ but as a good teacher once said:

‘What do you expect from a pig but a grunt!’

  14. Very interesting story to read (the apology). I wasn’t aware of this particular case before. There would’ve been a possibility to handle it all in very different manner, and even turn the negativity into a positive force. What happened before this apology is a prime example how *not* to handle negative feedback, something we all have to face sometimes.

Hats off to all of you involved for settling it (better late than never).

  15. Dan says:

    Hi Gang,

Just to let everyone know that I asked Ashley to close the comments on the blog because I didn’t want to start a conversation and it all end up in a flame war.

Ashley was wrong in what he did and the way he reacted to Allison, myself, Ed, and The Immediate Edge but he has now put a stop to that kind of activity and will not engage in this again in the future. Of that, we will make sure.

Peace and goodwill to all as they say.

    Dan :)

  16. Linda Abbit says:

Thank you, Allison, Ed & Dan for sharing the huge internet and life lessons here. It must have been very painful to experience, Allison.

We are so lucky to have Ed & Dan in our corner! I am once again honored and grateful to be part of the 30DC community.

    Happy Holidays to all.

  17. It’s nice that Ashley has been forced to apologize for his behaviour regarding what he perceived as competition. Too bad he didn’t just behave like a gentleman to begin with.
I wonder if he’s going to apologize for the actions he got all his rabid followers to do, such as spam anyone that dared not to repeat verbatim his hardsell. I, for one, did not appreciate his followers spamming my blog, saying nasty things, using my real name as if outing a war criminal, and then using it to shove their affiliate link. Will there be apologies for that behaviour? They did that to more than a few bloggers. Some, like Hannah, made it personal and wrote about me on her blog, as well as on nasty tweets. Even though I was not selling or pushing anything. Just questioning viability of the Twitter Rocket.

I am curious what his ‘followers’ will do now. Are they all going to apologize? Jump ship? Or are they going to continue to follow him into his next venture? I had been reading his affiliate blog with morbid curiousity while he was being nasty about the Immediate Edge. It is not the smartest man, who will promote and sell a product that so clearly violates trademark law. No wonder he eventually was forced to apologize for such vindictive behaviour. Character- it really does still count.

  18. Thanks for the lesson… I better undo some comments I made earlier today on someone elses site… oops!

  19. Dan says:

Personally I think the true outcome will show over the next couple of weeks if Ashley holds true to his apology and doesn’t start a spin cycle… and that is something we can all watch and comment on… This is why reputation is king. (and we have all the tools to monitor it)

    Dan

  20. Bob Ress says:

His promo is also in violation of the new FTC rules, is he US based?

  21. Jose Anajero says:

“To err is human, to forgive divine” (Alexander Pope)

    Thanks Allison, Ed and Dan.

    Jose

P.S. However, Dan says, “Personally I think the true outcome will show over the next couple of weeks if Ashley holds true to his apology and doesn’t start a spin cycle… and that is something we can all watch and comment on… This is why reputation is king. (and we have all the tools to monitor it)”

    Time will tell…

  22. John Reed says:

Well I never!! It does sound like a very nasty school bully feeling dissed when he wasn’t allowed to peddle garbage unhindered! Most business people of my advanced age will no doubt have seen examples of some pretty vicious back-stabbing through the years but this is an extreme example of “Sustained Red Mist” and I’m glad to see that those with the tools to monitor such shameful examples of humanity at its worst are busy doing just that!!!
I’m glad to hear about it as it’s a wake-up call for me to remember that not all onliners are pleasant and sensible, thank goodness most of my circle are just that!!
Let’s hope we can all now move on and that the “Red Mist” syndrome does not recur.
    John

  23. Bartonian says:

Didn’t know anything about this: Interesting resolution: Peace breaking out at Christmas Time - have an awesome 2010.

    Ian
All the best from Glasgow Scotland

  24. Juan Pablo says:

    Ed,
This issue and the way it unfolds, is a real proof of wisdom.
But turning such a bad situation into a win-win situation, and making it a “show case”, is for a real master..
    You are a genius!

  25. Betty says:

    Allison, Ed, and Dan,
It is a shame that you had to put up with this kind of garbage. I hope the apology is really the end of it.

May the New Year be filled with all things good for you!

    Betty

  26. Bad situation for you, i hope the problems end. Yeah you must move on,past was history and we must learn something from that for better condition in the future.

  27. Jason says:

You have to watch what you do this day and age in Internet marketing, there are always scammers you have to watch out for unfortunately. But there is also a very bright good side also, I teach that on my work at home blog. Nice post!

  28. The need for caution cannot be emphasized further. That sincere people can get embroiled in this fashion is regrettable.

  29. Max says:

Bad start, good ending! Wish everything could end like this. Respect to all of you guys!

  30. Daniel says:

I can only say that Ed (and then Frank Kern) have been totally instrumental in changing my life - not only financial life.

They way the 30DC has developed and changed is totally ok. Ed and Dan can do what they want, and if they want to run it more like a business is totally ok with me.

I find it cool that they care of enough to ‘clear’ the air and their name… they are definitely some of the most honest marketers in IM I came across….

thanks again Ed and gang for the massive leg up in 2006!

    Daniel Wagner

  31. The dark side exists in every form of business one encounters whether on line or in real life. One just has to have his head about him to understand and decipher the difference.

  32. DJ Hire says:

Thanks , I’ve recently been looking for info about this topic for a while and yours is the greatest I have discovered till now. However, what in regards to the bottom line? Are you positive about the source?|What i do not understood is if truth be told how you are no longer actually a lot more well-appreciated than you may be now. You’re so intelligent.
