Getting Stuck For Ideas
This years Thirty Day Challenge pre-season training has just started. Sign up right now by entering your name and email address in the boxes below.
I have been looking at the forums and I see that Day 8 has given a good few of you a bit of a kick in terms of killing your potential markets…
So I wanted to share with you a couple of articles I wrote on finding ideas for creating your own products. Now you are not going to be doing this right yet
, but the research ideas still apply to finding your niche for the Thirty Day Challenge.
It’s all about getting some inspiration.
Download and read the first article
Download and read the second article
I hope these help.

Dan, this is valuable info thanks so much. Your magazine search approach validates my Barnes & Noble trip. I look first at what books are in the window, then which have prominent displays. Then I talk with a store clerk to ask what requests they are getting from customers. I also use this approach for article writing. Plus I get a venti Latte for my efforts. Happy to discover that something I already know how to do will pay off for 30DC (now if I can overcome some of the techie stuff. . .) KT

Thank you so much Dan. Everything you’re doing here is so greatly appreciated!

Awesome stuff as usual guys … especially when you’re looking down the barrel of day 8 with crumbs of ideas left behind.
Thanks,

just got thru watching the day 8 video and was running some ideas thru google trends when I found something pretty cool… check out the link below and look at the red line - there seems to be a spike in the exact phrase ” how to make money online” and the start of the 30 DC…. http://www.google.com/trends?q=male+yeast+infection%2C+%22how+to+make+money+online%22&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

Oh my gosh! I really thought I had my ideas down and I narrowed it to 3 great researched results and then you drop these resources and now I’m up to about 10 well researched results. The great information has to be stopped!
(and one of the ideas listed here was already in my top three so I guess I’m doing o.k.). Thanks Dan. You have evidently had your coffee!
August 8th, 2007 at 10:27 pm
Now I’m afraid to look at the articles after reading what Stacy wrote. I’m finding this trend thing to be fun and I keep going “Oh I wonder what the results would look like on this one.” I had only 2 left from my original 7 and now I’ve added another 3. But really, keep the information coming. I’ll go read the articles now.

I have a web site and 200 plus articles and all I need to make money, except how to get the traffic to it. Is this cheating if I use the programs on my hard drive or should I start from scratch.

Thank you Dan.

Thank You Dan. You Inspired Me!

Well Dan had to read that headline three times before I realized it said “Stuck” instead of “Suck”. Thanks for the articles because right now I got “suck” for ideas…Though the cool thing is I know now and haven’t spent time screwing around with them. toss them out and onto new items that don’t suck.
Thanks for the lift.

Some good ideas here, thanks for sharing. Also going to forums in these niches like boating or travel can give you even more ideas for what people are interested in or looking for information on.
August 9th, 2007 at 1:29 am
Those articles are ‘right on time’, and greatly appreciated. After day 8, am happy to have the two niches looking good to go, but these are a great help to trying to restore another 5. Many thanks.

Dearly Beloved Dan:
Thank you for this eye opening document.
Very helpful.
Remain blessed and a blessing.

ummm — not stuck on ideas. Just have to narrow down a few hundred, Lol. Love Google Trend charts, but helps in the skimpy reduction to core ideas. I have two websites I haven’t made a dime this year! Some on ebay but that’s a didn’t ball game … looking for day nine. Had to do some fast tracking since Day eight was my actual “first” day! GW — Keep it Rolling!

Thank you. I surely need it

Absolutley superb information here Dan, thanks this is much appreciated :-).

I think I have one niche but over the weekend, I will examine whether my prelimary research supported by the trends are solid enough to stand on.
August 9th, 2007 at 8:42 am
Thanks, Dan, you are a gentleman and a guru. My niches got killed big time in the comparisons, and I mean BIG TIME, but that’s good — no wasted effort on them. With sincere gratitude for all your help.

Hi me too all but one of my ideas are toast, by the way what is a “lens” ? As a thought how about someone in the know doing a list of IM jargon with explanation????
Great course

Just a teeeeny confused here. I thought I had found a great idea, only 20,300 Google sites versus 167 Wordtracker….the ratios looked very promising. Then I go to Google Trends and get just a slight “red” mark at bottom. I understand the “base line” concept for ‘male yeast infection’ , and my idea has no comparison. Question: should I still pursue the idea, or only pursue ideas that score well with all 3 criteria?
1.Under 25,000 google sites
2.Wordtracker numbers over 100
3.Google.Trends with numbers similar to the “base line”
BTW…..Way awesome TDC. This is a HUGE eye-opener, into how the ‘big boys’ make it happen.
It would be difficult to thank you enough.
Thank You.
O.

For the analytical types, I made a post that shows you a trick to seeing the exact ratio of searches between your target phrase and the phrase male yeast infection. The thread explains it in detail:

I only had one umbrella phrase make it through, and I was bummed out - until I saw that most of us are having the same thing happening to them. I’ve printed these articles & will be using them when I catch up this weekend. Great job, Mr. P.T.M. [Pink Thong Man]!

Thanks for the info Dan, it’s helped me open my mind to other ways of researching and coming up with niche ideas.
@Scott Worswick - a lens is a page on squidoo.com

I so much love this program. You are doing a great job.
My problem is that i always love to watch or listen to those prog but i cant cos i use a cafe. I will love it if you can put this on pdf 4 people like me. thanks.
August 9th, 2007 at 1:16 pm
Scott,
a ‘lens’ is a page on Squidoo. But as Google slapped Squidoo, I don’t think Ed is using that during the 30 Day Challenge. These pdfs were originally for the ‘Edgers’ when Squidoo was hot!

Thanks for the awesome articles.

Catching up, so behind and why my comment is late, but Thanks, Dan. This was helpful. I looked at magazines for my number one source of inspiration, but came up with product ideas, like Dan stated here, and not niches! LOL
I guess the niche is what I get bogged down on.
Can you work backwards from a product idea to a niche market for it? ((Any cool suggestions?))
Thanks!
Kelly

@Paula, thanks for sharing what the “lense” on Squidoo was! I briefly looked before but didn’t understand it, but to say “it’s a page on Squidoo” cuts to the chase! Lenses=pages…thanks!
