30DC Pre-Season: Downloading Files and Google Groups

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Hi Gang,

Caro McCourtie has recorded 2 more videos for the 30DC Pre-season which are up in the Training Centre now.

The first video is on downloading files and is really only for newbies who are still trying to figure out aspects of accessing and downloading files from the internet.  All you experienced users out there probably won’t need to watch this video.

The second video is on Google Groups.  It is a fantastic service for organising group communication and is therefore a tool you might consider for helping you all to manage communication within your 30DC teams this year.

Wanna Be Famous?

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Hi Guys,

The amazingly talented Phill Mason has been hard at work getting this years Thirty Day Challenge theme tune written and recorded, but for this year’s theme tune we decided to do something a little different…

…we want YOU to be a part of it all.

Now don’t worry, you don’t have to be vocally gifted or have the musical prowess of Beethoven at 5 years of age, because although we want people to record the tune, we also want people to mime along in video, and Phill will then do his awesome editing to bring it all together.

When you’re recording video please make sure that the video needs to be shot in 16:9 HD (High Definition) (720p to be exact - that is 1280 x 720). Now before you panic, Phill will also be taking standard def DV video which is either 720 x 480 or 720 x 576 pixels depending on where in the world you live. If you can shoot in Full HD 1080p that’s fine also, but we would like to avoid low res, grainy webcam video if possible. Perhaps you have a friend who has a camera you could borrow :D

For the full details on how you can contribute and get your face on this years video head on over to Phill’s site at this link: http://www.phillmason.com/musician/how-to-submit-your-30dc-audio-video/

30DC Pre-Season - Google Docs and Skype

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Hi,

Over the last few days we have published 2 new 30DC pre-season videos in the Training Centre from Guest presenters.

The first is on Google Docs kindly prepared by Eugene Ware from Noble Samurai.  Google Docs is a fantastic resource which offers you Office application functionality (word processor, spreadsheet and presentation tool) in your browser.

The second video is on Skype from our very own Caro McCourtie.  Skype is invaluable for a number of reasons the least of which is to able to make voice calls to any computer anywhere in the world for free.  The other reason we love Skype is the ease with which people can setup a conference call which makes it a perfect fit for participating in a team during the 30DC.

Well those videos should keep you busy for a while but there is much more to come!

2009 30DC Pre-season - Facebook & Google Analytics

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Hi Gang,

Well there has been a few additions to the 30DC Pre-Season content over the last few days.

Firstly, I have recorded 3 videos on Facebook showing you how to open a Facebook account, use Facebook with Seesmic Desktop and a review of some of the key features.

Guru Bob has also recorded a review of Google Analytics which you can use to track the traffic coming to your sites.  Tracking is crucial and you need to do it to learn about your niche as well as to optimise yuor site for ranking and getting more traffic.

You can access all the new videos in the Training Centre.

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Hi Gang,

Guru Bob has recorded several videos for Thirty Day Challenge Pre-season on Firefox.

Firefox will be the recommended web browser for this years 30DC due to it’s availability on many platforms, extendibility through plugins and toolbars and speed.

We are also recommending a number of plugins and toolbars which we would like you to install.

You can access the videos via the training centre.

30DC Pre-Season - Twitter

Monday, June 15th, 2009

Hi Gang,

I have added several videos in the training area for the 2009 30DC pre-season on Twitter.

Twitter has always been incredibly valuable and continues to be so this year.  I highly recommend you get an account on Twitter and follow myself (http://www.twitter.com/Ed_Dale), Dan (http://www.twitter.com/danraine) and GuruBob (http://www.twitter.com/gurubob).

It is the very best way of staying up to date with all things 30DC in 2009.
