A bit off-topic but mind if I ask what you're using protobufs for? (or was it just a benchmarking exercise?)
I have to admit I rolled my eyes when I initially heard about the project (not ANOTHER IDL!) but having looked at it, it's awesome to find that it seems to rely more on practicality than being everything to everyone (I can't use SOAP without wanting to tear my hair out)
