Yes, that works pretty well. The important thing is to keep the number of keywords low.
Then at some point it's just faster and easier to get the info manually.
I'm also finding it easier to do the initial keyword research in the Google Keyword tool...looking for searches of around 6000+ (which closely approximates a daily SEOT of 80). Then I add that list into MS.
And when I have a list of useable keywords, I always, always, always confirm those numbers manually. By that time the list is relatively small so it's not too time consuming and it saves you from the occasional glitch in MS.
