I agree 100 percent
From my experience, the best blogs and websites that I love to read are the one's that write as if their having a conversation directed at me, the reader. I don't know exactly how they do it, but some Internet writers have an amazing gift to be able to write out an article that sounds like they are actually talking to me instead of looking like a paragraph from a textbook. So I totally agree that writing for your audience is the way to go. For myself I struggle daily with wanting to write like a witty conversationalist, but instead I find myself sounding like the dreaded text book. What's interesting is that when I do speak, I'm actually quite a great conversationalist and people tell me all the time I'm hilarious. I just wish I could successfully translate that into my copy.
Oh well, practice makes perfect and I've seriously been toying with the idea of buying one of those mini recorders so I can record my ramblings about my topic and then transcribe the priceless gems into my blog from what I've recorded.
