Basically the reason for WPD as to Wordpress.org is
that the 30DC consist of a good share of newbies

I am a web designer and have several Wordpress websites running, so I was thrown last year with WPD, I installed it and it was not for me, so I had to revert back to Wordpress as I know it inside and out.
For people wanting to move up a level I would recommend running their own version of Wordpress, along with the necessary plugins and ping lists required. (Experience is required - It is not for newbies) I now write custom plug-ins and themes to meet my customers requirments for their blogs, which have great SEO, perform well on Google, so I am happy

and so are my customers.
