Default Alternative for Google Notebook

I used Google Notebook last year, but it seemed a little awkward, with all of the back-and-forth between it and Google Docs. My issue with it is that if you clip multiple items from one page, you have multiple items in your notebook to deal with.

This year, I'm using Clipmarks.

It adds a button to your browser which allows to to select multiple items from a website, add a comment if you wish, then save/email the clip, print it or post it to a blog. I use the email option.

I've created a Gmail folder (label) and a filter that moves my incoming clips into this folder.

It just seems more logical for me to have all of this stuff in one spot so that I can copy/paste a little easier.

I also suspect that it might be handy a little later in the challenge...

Default Zotero - More features than Google Notebook

Hi gang,

I work as lecturer in a tertiary institution. It is part of our role to do research. By far the most popular tool among academics is Endnote (www.endonte.com). However, it is not free and is not web based.

So, looking for a good and free alternative to Endnote, I came across with an extension for Firefox called Zotero. To some extent, Zotero is similar to Google Notebook. However, it has far more features and includes a long list of citation styles. These styles are very useful at the moment of creating your own product (book)

Hi Guys,

I am using Evernote, for collecting notes and websites of interest, give it a try I think you'll find it useful. It is a full download program with a web browser bookmarklet with an online database tie in. Here is the link Remember everything. | Evernote Corporation

Here's a quote from the site

"Remember everything.
Evernote allows you to easily capture information in any environment using whatever device or platform you find most convenient, and makes this information accessible and searchable at any time, from anywhere."

Hope this helps.
Matthew

I tend to use both Google Notebook for ad hoc and informal clipping of information I come across but when researching a project solidly I use Zotero.
Its feature rich and great for formal research but perhaps a little top heavy for those simply snipping an image here, a URL there and a paragraph here .. etc

I installed and played with Clipmarks ages ago, I thought it might be useful for Internet Marketing, then kinda forgot about it. Interesting to read how you are using it. I might have a look again and see if it might be more user friendly for me as well. I have similar problems with Google Notebook.

I abandoned Google Notebook quite some time ago when I discovered the Scrapbook plugin. More recently I've been using Zotero and I switch between the two just trying to settle on what works best for me. But I'll give Clipmarks another look now as well.

I've been using Zotero for a couple months now. I've only scratched the surface of it's features and I've not yet created a book. But I think it will be a much better choice than Google Notebook - using it again for 30DC has made me remember why I abandoned it in the 1st place. I'll have to investigate the features of Zotero further. Especially if creating a book with it is really feasible.

My partner, also doing the 30DC, and I are in Waikato btw :-)

I use both, Google Reader and Evernote and do like Evernote a little better.
2 reasons:
1) Evernote has a neat app for the IPhone (free of charge)
2) Evernote can search within photos as well. You can save photos in evernote and if there is anything written in this photo you can search for it (e.g. a label on a bottle, your plane ticket etc.)
So it is worth giving it a try.

I love onenote for note taking. I am testdriving Google notebook for the 30DC, but I have been using onenote for over 1-2 years now - and it simply is my favorite piece of software ever. In fact it's microsofts redeeming feature leaving Mac and others in its dust. A lot of people have it available through their office package but don't even know about it. Not only can it search through images and convert handwriting, you can paste audio and video as well. It has loads of tags ...It works as easy as paper but is so much better to organize. It beats all the other notetaking apps hands down, no competition.

And the fun thing about it is that there is integration with outlook and mindjet mindmanager - which is the leading mindmapping tool out there. (There's also a clipping plugin for firefox (prob works with flock too))
