would be willing to spend a few minutes with me a newbie, who knows enough to be dangerous. I posted on the general board. My problem is I have a bluehost -hosted wordpress. org blog already... I may want to switch that over to one of my wordpress direct blogs but meanwhile, I'm having a bear of a time figuring out (please don't laugh) what my ftp username and password are. WP direct keeps telling me I have it wrong.
I did the update in the sticky Marty posted (and I see "dave" too in Harvardave, btw) and think i got that right but I can't get past step ii in wp direct. Any help will be soooo appreciated. Thanks!

I would like to applause the willingness of the WPD for assisting us they fastest and better they can (but hey, after all we are just 20.000 or 30.000 simultaneous users hitting their servers at the same time, small change...)
I know for experience the pressure they may be having right now (new servers, connection lines, weird themes, newbies) and they must have had a good planning to keep their servers up and running until now. Because any company has limited resources you have to make some trade-offs between different factors: Security, speed, cost (pick just two of them) So I would give them a break (knowing that they are doing their best) and the price-quality factor for this product is amazing (great service / 0 $) (well, in my case I am a hapy gold member customer)

The WPdirect system is doing an excellent job and Marty and the boys have been putting in long hours I'm sure.
Once it's tested and out of beta (20,000 new blogs is a pretty good test sample) I expect much more smoothness and fast upgrades to the latest 'secure' version of wordpress.

... hello world of site Gurus!
![]() Do i assume correctly for us beginners that hosting our own domain and then using WPD exclusively (ie no external plug ins is the way to go) Cant bear the thought of putting in all that effort and then 'breaking the site' due a beginner goof up. On that note is there a way of backing up 'uncorrupted' earlier version of a WPD site on my own machine? Cheers, John |
