Hey everyone - please be aware that the version of wordpress being installed is not the current version. This plug-in, wp automatic upgrade, is easy and will get you up to speed asap.
WordPress › Wordpress Automatic upgrade « WordPress Plugins Also, for the newbies to wordpress, please review your plugins and upgrade the ones that need it. Thanks, Tina

I just wanted to second that if you upgrade, but sure to double check any plugins that you use. I've got a Wordpress blog for a podcast I use and my podcasting plugin, podpress has not been updated yet, so the upgrade broke it.

Hi - this is Marty from WordPressDirect. I'm going to discourage updating to 2.6 on WPD driven sites. Since we automate the blog using xml-rpc and have not tested any changes they have made to the xml-rpc interface, I cannot guarantee that you won't break your site.
I think 2.6 came out something like 2 weeks ago. Is there a really compelling reason people want to jump on the upgrade? Last edited by harvardave : 08-08-2008 at 03:27 AM. |

Typically, wordpress sites that are hacked are the ones that are not kept current on versions.
I understand this is a new rollout, but a serious question I have moving forward with this product is what priority will be given to updating the product when wordpress updates?

There is a known exploit of xml-rpc with pre-2.6 - WP2.6 now comes default with it switched off, so if you upgrade, theoretically all you have to do is turn it on, but WPD 'should' be testing 2.6 and can advise whether it breaks the auto-content feature or not...
With the amount of blogs that are hacked everyday, I would hope that Wordpress Direct would have put Security at the top of the importance list. Based on my initial review here: Some thoughts on Wordpress Direct... the security of WPD seems to be lacking... but hey, just use it for testing and if your niche market works out, then get serious by hosting your own security-upgraded WP install.

Why? I have broken sites plenty of times by upgrading, usually the plugins are the culprit. Waiting for my host to offer the upgraded has been beneficial. They give the upgrade time to be tested and popular plugins time to update ![]() Tom

You know, dave, the imaginary unicorn who lives in the sky :S
Apparently if you look up dave in latin-pseudo-greek it translates directly to Marty...
