With your market samurai's in hand you do have a good beginning to seeing if a niche is at the basic level do able before you spend time and recourse's going further into the data of seo as mentioned earlier in the post.
Don't be overwhelmed it's not that bad ![]() The information for seo is a great checklist of activities necessary if you want to have a SEO'ed out site and there is help out there to help you decipher further if you want to go further at the level of "how competitive is it?" and can I compete In the list above- authority sites, keyword in URL are easy to see at first glance when it comes to their backlinking or LINK LOVE (this is links pointing at the domain in question) there are some free and paid tools to help you to evaluate that. Free: SmartPageRank | Backlink PageRank Check - this tool shows basic results and basic top level anchor text (word string associated with the referring link) Analyze Backlinks - shows anchor text, total links in (pointing to) and out bound links (pointing off page from the site in question) and it also shows page titles as well These will help you understand the Link Love competition at a little deeper level. As touched on above there are a lot more on-page factors if you were SEOing out your niches but at this point the information coming to us at 30DC is perfect for the phase of beginning dev. of the niches. Actual on page elements where and when to put key terms & phrases and how will come after you have chosen picked your keyterms, phrases, and found a niche, Structural elements such as H1 tags, where on page keyterms should be, underlining, and LSI'ed (related associated text that is within posts that you write and on keyword topic) happen after you have picked a niche and are beginning to build out your sites. Hint want to see what competition is doing on page: browser plug in rec. in your browser set up - SEO turn the highlighting on- you will actually see where those keywords are on the page. Keep in mind that a lot of the #DC's are just starting off in this adventure and to date the info presented and tools provided have jump started the non seo types years ahead of non-30DC (no IM /seo exp) . A great position to be in in only 7 days! ![]()

June you make some great points about staying calm and how far ahead of the competition you are if you're a newbie just starting in 30dc. "7 days to SEO expert" is not an ebook (that I'm aware of) and don't buy it if it is. SEO has its own jargon and nuances which can take years to master and Eric has been in the SEO game for 8 years now. I have the benefit of being on his team and can attest to his extremely high advanced knowledge of SEO.
I would consider myself intermediate level skill because I've been studying SEO for over 5 years but only done a small amount of work in the field since I'm a copywriter and enjoy doing that. I asked him what his main evaluation factors were and I believe that was his motivation for this post. Bookmark this thread in your delicious account (or your local computer hard drive through your browser if you're old school). You will want to refer back to it after the challenge is over and these terms are second nature to you. I asked via pm a couple questions about DMOZ and Yahoo. I've included my response here (with fees for the services redacted due to 30dc rules, pm me if you want to know the cost to get these links): [DMOZ and Yahoo are the 2 web directories Google respects the most. This gives you the most link power and weight meaning they contribute greatly to increasing your rankings in google. Yahoo costs an annual fee for their power link. This is the easiest to get because for the most part when you pay they put you in their directory (the yahoo team does review your site for quality, non-porn, etc AND they make no guarantees you'll be included but the people I've talked to who had a working site and paid the fee did get included getting the power backlink). DMOZ is even more greatly weighted by google but almost impossible to get into. It's a volunteer human review directory meaning it takes months (if ever) for your site to be EVEN BE looked at by an editor. It's also believed to be harder to get into. They have a huge backlog of sites to look at. So unless you know an editor it's tough sledding. botw.org is another old and respected directory. They have 2 fee options a yearly plan or a 1-time fee plan. When you have a money site (making money) i'd advise getting these power links because they do help your rankings. They make no guarantees either but follow their terms and you should get in. Hold off on paying the fees to any of these directories until you know you have a winning market/keyword and are making money WITH YOUR MAIN SITE. No need to pay for something you're going to abandon or are unsure of the profitability. Don't spend money until you have to or are confident it will benefit you.]

The Keyword in the URL. Keyword .com currently has a lot of Weigh for Google, this wasn't the case awhile ago. If you can get Keyword .com thats the best ( .com always better than any other, .info ,org, ,net .etc Question - is keyword.relatedphraseurl. com likely to rank significantly higher than keyword.genericurl.com? Enough higher to eventually overcome the on & off-page SEO advantages of an established genericurl. com? Yes, but still dependent upon all the other factors and Backlinks. Main thing is keyword in URL carries weight these days. And when comparing apples to apples in SEO backlinks, on Site SEO, the Keyword. com or keyword.relatedphraseurl. com will have enough Juice to push it over the top of a generic URL. com In other words, should I stop freaking out over a competing site's unassailable domain age advantage if it looks like their 'keyword anchor text' and 'keyword in url' factors aren't so strong (and I can optimize those factors in my site)? Basically Yes, but your domain may need to Age at least 6-9 months before it's full Keyword Ranking position can be realized. The only other tidbit I would add is this: They Say Content is KING but Backlink Keyword Anchor text is Emperor!! Another post on Page Rank and Back Links with info Page And Domain Back Links

Eric you've been a darling in this community thank you
![]() There are some FABULOUS tips there. They are beyond the 30DC And you ARE an expert in this area, no doubt about it ![]() I'm going to move this thread to the tips section for two reasons: a) I'd like to sticky it for future reference - and that area is for general tips. b) Because I know Ed will ask me to lol - as it is more advanced stuff. Thanks again Eric Caro ![]() PS: And congrats on your mankini achievement - does this mean you'll be wearing your own little mankini number around town now?! ![]()

I think to achieve success within the 30 Day period, its best to stick with the basics. The color advice is very useful for the 30DC purpose. There is SEO and there is SEO.. You could potentially get to #1 in lots of niches but it will take time..
The best advice is to find an easy one now and save the others for later. Who knows maybe Ed and company will give insights on how to make this much easier long term. I am a techie myself but I prefer to play dumb and learn the art of marketing first.
