Here is one source

How much does a domain's age affect its ranking?

There were at least two articles regarding domain age on Google blog or something but I can not find them.

So he's not actually a representative from Google. He's an SEO 'expert' - seems like a nice guy too.

AND he is not suggesting definitively in any way shape or form to ignore DA. He is saying as we do - nothing is solely responsible.

We most certainly do not want anyone to focus on one aspect alone - that is why we have the matrix, and Robert goes through it painstakingly to point out how they all work together, contribute to each other - have you watched those? More than once?

At the end of the day you believe what you feel is right for you.

Caro - hope your not referring here to the "all mighty" Matt Cutts....the google spam zar.

Listening to the clip, I agree that he is not saying that they are or are not taking Domain Age into account. Its not clear to me whether the video is about "future" domain age, ie how long before your domain expires, or the MS DA stat, which looks at how long it has been registered for.

The main point that I take away from the video is:
  • dont believe your registrar when they say google gives you a bonus for registering your domain for 10 years rather then 2 { theyre just trying to upsell }
  • quality of the site, which will drive the next one
  • links pointing to your site
Thanks advanced for raising this post by alexander13 to the forefront though. Some really great tips on taking SEO competition research beyond MS, and highlighting priorities for SEO impact.

OK. I found a typical example. The number one site has PageRank 8!

No domain age data - the domain is two months old!

WHOIS Registry Data
Created: 2009-05-19
Expires: 2011-05-19
Updated: 2009-05-19

Less than 1000 back links (6730 back links to domain), no DMOZ (well it is in DMOZ, MarketSamurai is wrong!?), no YAHOO.

PageRank 8. Can you explain this???

I've had this with one of my sites.

MS gets the DA data from the Internet Archive. Sites that are not allowing the internet archive to crawl their pages show up with no Domain age. This does not mean they are old or new.

It is not clear whether google uses DA to rank sites, and if it did, I have not come across anything that indicates whether it is based on whois data, or just when google first crawled the site.

Re: the page rank - the 900 or so backlinks, 200 are from sites with 5 or higher PR. Because the keyword = domain, its also getting a boost in rankings.
