This is a great tip blogvibrations and I remember talking with you about it on the 30dc call. Are you finding sites (or topics) within your niche on .edu and .gov sites to post on.

Or just posting a comment about the topic you find, and including a link to your homepage (even if the topic on the .edu site wasn't about what your site was about)?

I only post if the topic interests me.if i cant add anything to the conversation ill leave without posting. My goal isnt to spam but to get good backlinks to my site (Yes their is a big difference)

i usualy dont add the link to the post instead i add it too the signature.
ive only added it to the post if the link is in direct response to the conversation.

if its in the sig it doesnt look like spam as much =]

Hey everyone,
just an update to this.

if you have the SEO plugin mentioned in the pre-season and you go to the link below, you can see i have 3 .edu and 1 .go link (the the time of writing)

Now, that may not seem alot however,
1. the SE's dont notice them straight away, some of the links should be recognised within afew days.
2. i have only been adding 1 a day and i recomend you do too, getting too many and SE's will notice it and give your site a slappin .

Dont forget, google wants to have the highest PR and if they notice you catching up too fast they will get worried!

Default Woops...

Woops...I read a post reply from Caro about posting rules and realized I violated it by including my blog in my sig.

I apologize.

My own data (15months)

-Google does care but has changed the way they care
-Yahoo does not care
-MSN does not report links

Nofollow, as far as Google, means link juice (page rank) is not passed. A nofollow from a PR0 still counts as a link. So 100 back links from a bunch of PR0-1 nofollow pages is still 100 incoming links to your site.

I'm sure there are many that will dis-agree here but my own data at Lensroll shows me the nofolllow attribute, when applied to a hyperlink, has little to do with your incoming link count. The real thing to look for is the meta "noindex", "nofollow". If that exists in the source then the link is not a link and will never be a link :-)

Nofollow is over blown and misunderstood. I wouldn't get too caught up in all this nofollow stuff. A link is a link.
