Default MS Office - big freeze - question please

May I ask the PC geeks to help out, please?

I have all my IDs and Passwords for 30DC listed in table in a Word.doc which I use all day long.

Last several days, every time I copy to paste into a web page (via right click or Ctrl C, either one) - Word freezes on me. I've un-installed MS Office and reinstalled - makes no difference. Win XP and new laptop with 1Gb RAM and lots of CPU speed.

Any ideas on what I can do, please? Everything grinds to a halt - don't you just LOVE Bill Gates??!!

I hope somebody can cast some light on this.

Every time you copy text from Word, the text is stored in the "Clipboard", you can copy up to 24 times with the clipboard but If you copy a lot of text each time (like articles, content etc.) the clipboard gets overloaded. Try clearing it after you have pasted the text.

Julien.

PS : To clear it you can either go in Edit > Office Clipboard > Clear All, or their is an icon in the systray, right click on that icon and "Clear all"

Use google notes like Ed showed in preseason. WOW, saves a ton of open pages.

Default Thank you Julien

and I thought I knew MS Word pretty well.....

I had been "cleaning" clipboard by copying a blank whatever space and it appeared to be doing the trick (for a few years), but this recent freeze has been happening even with one word pastes - not pages and pages of stuff!!

Another person put me onto what "appears" to be the solution - why it works, I don't know but it has solved the issue.

I searched for normal.dot on C-drive - deleted the 3 (maybe corrupted) normal.dot files and re-started Word - bingo!!

Maybe you know why - I'll continue on in my ignorance - but happy to have the time waster removed from my day.

THANK you for your replies - really appreciated. Living and always learning.

Normal.dot is the default document template file for Word. You shouldnt have had 3 of them and also its the preferred file for MS Office specific viruses to get located.
Make sure you do a complete virus scan.

Yup you should have only had 1 normal.dot so take Calison`s asdvice.

Go offline, do full system virus scan.
