Default Day #4 Question

Hi Everyone,

Creating Amazon Affiliate Links (day #4). I'm at a stand still for the amazon affiliate sign up form. If you don't have a website, can you complete the sign up without one? If I can't sign up because I don't have a website then how can I test my product?

This is the part of the amazon form that I'm referring to:

Your Web Site Profile:
* What is the name of your Web site?
* What is the URL of the main Web site you use to send traffic to Amazon?
Which of the following topics best describes your main Web site(s)?
* Briefly describe your site, including the type of items you intend to list.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hiya Tmich16. Welcome to the 30DC

This issue is mentioned in the training video... before you have created your blog you can put any URL in here during the sign up process and update the info in your profile once you have your first blog created.

Good luck with the rest of the challenge

Default Blog

Thanks for the information. I was wondering if you could educate me a little bit about the blog. I've never created one, to be honest I don't know really anything about them. Do I have to create a domain name? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

You can signup for a free WordPress Direct blog here, there are also upgrade options you can choose from.

If you want to host your own blog, you will need your own domain name and hosting. You can get hosting through HostGator for less than $10 per month and host unlimited domains for that amount. You can register your domain at godaddy.com and put in HostGator's servers as the nameservers.

Then in HostGator's cpanel, click the Fantastico icon and it will automatically install a WordPress blog for you.

Default Blogging, Wordpress and Hosting

Hiya Tmich16,

Keep following the Challenge and all will be revealed...

Future lessons show you how to set up a blog.

You can take the totally free option while you are learning about everything by creating a blog using Wordpress Direct and getting them to host it for free (day 6 Lesson) You can do this 3 times before you need to upgrade to their paid service.

As Traci mentioned you can sign up for your own hosting through Hostgator if thats the path you want to take. Do a search on the Forum for Hosting discussions before making your decision.

Here's a couple to start you off:
Problems with Wordpress Direct/Hostgator
Domain name advice...
Domains???
New domain name in Hostgator?

Regards,

Dee

Default Wordpressdirect problem

Thank you both for the advice, it has been very helpful. I have hit a bump in the road with the process. I've watched the day 6 stuff and spent hours trying to figure whats going on but I've done everything that ed did.

I bought a domain name. Bought a hostgator. Going through the wordpressdirect process and this is where I hit the bump. I picked out my theme, the next page (Install a New Website (step 2) ) I filled out all the info.

My page shows the same as Ed's when he's demonstrating the process except it doesn't show "Account Location"

As I stated I filled everything that their is to fill out. I clicked on the "check settings & Proceed to next step".

It loads for a while saying "checking the site settings" then a box appears and says this. SyntaxError: parseJSON--Couldn't connect to 68.178.232.100

Can anyone help me, or has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks again in advance, sorry about the sloppiness of this message.

ciao

Contact support for WPD, sounds like something they need to help you with.
