Default Scribd vs. other Web 2.0 properties

I'm hoping Ed or one of the moderators can answer this question. I'm a few days behind and I'm about to start my web 2.0 property posts, when I came across this Techcrunch article online about Scribd's traffic being done a huge 50% since June:

Hey, What Happened To Scribd? Traffic Down Over 48% Since June

I know that people are still having great success with Scribd, but given that we want to rank as quickly as possible to test our market, I was wondering if we should perhaps consider any of the other solid Web 2.0 properties that are out there, for our first few blog posts, including WetPaint, Zimbio, Quizilla and a bunch others.

What does everyone think? I'm sure that Scribd was chosen for a very good reason by Ed and the 30DC team, but I'm just reacting to the market news.

Any thoughts?

Well, I'm no mod, but I'll share my 2c anyway

This is comparing the traffic of the sites you mentioned:

It's plummeted quite a lot, but its still way up there.

Levanak, thank you for the chart. It summarizes quite nicely what I feel is the most important point (and which you already noted) -- even though Scribd traffic is down considerably in recent months, it's still the "market leader" when compared to the other article-posting sites.

I've not been following news about Scribd, and don't have time to do the research now, but out of sheer curiosity, I would be very interested to know what event took place a few months ago that caused the drop in traffic.
