Default Thanks - just got that!

That helped....

Then I tried running a series of searches for my seven niches - and got 403 Forbidden Error:

It's giving me the same results no matter what query I enter....what did I do? And how can I run my queries?

Thanks!

Smile SafeSearch Filtering

Hey Everyone,

Caro did a great job on the summary.

I had a comment or question...when I went to mark "100" for results per page, I notice my default setting in google for safe search was set at "moderate". I started playing with "no filter" and "strict" and it made a difference in some of my numbers.

After freezing the presentation video, I noticed that he had it set to "No filter"

Any thoughts????

Ed's Intro

Robert's Wordtracker/Google Search Video

I thought I would offer some back up to re-iterate some key points:

a) You go into Wordtracker and type your keyword and see what else lists underneath it.

So like with Speed-reading - you take the keyword at the top of the list initially.

b) You then type that keyword into Google Search in Phrase match - Phrase match means you put brackets around it.

So you type "Speed Reading"

c) You see how much competition there is - which you assess in the top bar towards the right, so it will say 1-100 of whatever number for "keywords" (84mill for speed reading).

d) Our desired figure we want to see is under 25,000 - 30,000 results (competing pages)

e) If it is above 25-30K you go back to Wordtracker and look at the list again

f) You take the keyword underneath it

g) You want the Word-tracker traffic figure to ideally be between 80-100 daily searches or more for any keyword phrase that you are researching.

It is the keyword phrase underneath the main keyword phrase that is called the Umbrella Phrase.

So in this example Robert checked "speed reading free" and as he said ideally you would want more than 62 searches daily - he is using it for the point of the exercise.

h) You then type in the "umbrella keyword" - which in this example was "speed reading free" and you want to see if it has under 25-30K competing pages (the results).

OK - so remember you are looking at this stage to see:

a) between 80-100 + daily searches in Wordtracker - first tick

b) Does it have less than 25-30K competing pages? (IMPERATIVE)

And add these results to your grid accordingly.

Keep working through the keyword lists for a niche idea if the first couple are over 80-100 searches, but have way too many competing pages.

If you don't have over 80-100 searches per day to begin with - put onto the reserve bench* & move onto your second niche idea.

If you do have between 80-100 searches per day for the umbrella phrase but over 25-30K competing pages - keep going through the list until you find a keyword phrase between 80-100 spd that does have under 25-30K, if not move onto your second idea (but still keep it on the reserve bench for now*)

* You will see why tomorrow we say reserve bench - as Robert will show you a method to double check the traffic numbers - so at this stage you don't want to throw anything out completely - granted some you may seem close to.

Just wait until you see the next two videos on this topic and how it all ties together - Robert has perfected this technique & knows his stuff!

Best to you all

Caro

This happened to me too.

Run Google in IE or a browser other than Firefox and it comes back.

Hi Trends,

I recommend it pays to watch each video more than once.

Robert did talk about the page ten stuff.

AND

He then very clearly stated that for these purposes we are FOCUSING (sorry to shout ) on the results at the top when we phrase match search.

So you want it to be under 25-30K searches.

To explain why we put 25-30K - well really we want under 25K - if you are going to stretch it - stretch it to 30K AND NO MORE.

Yes I meant to put quotation marks instead of brackets as the example had and was in the video - I've edited this

If Google thumps you one for thinking you're a bot - time will see you back in. Switching browsers temporarily sounds like a good idea too.

And as for the filter/moderate - I'm not sure - just set it as what you saw Robert have.

Oh and I have noticed that I might be talking to Robert on Skype and I see a page that has 84K results and he sees 86K - this is not an issue. Who knows why that is (maybe that filter thingey) - but its not significant to what we are doing here.

Remember you want under 25K and stretch if you must to 30K on the computer screen you're on

Best to you all - glad this helped.

Caro

OK, let's say I had my two-word key phrase, and I started going through the "subphrases". I got the following results for those that met the 80-100 searches criteria:

"sub phrase 1" (84 searches, 37K pages)
"sub phrase 2" (82 searches, 5950 pages)
"sub phrase 3" (75 searches, 9450 pages)
"sub phrase 4" (102 searches, 26,200 pages)

So, should I hold onto all of these? Are we going to look at ways to discriminate on such results, or will we be looking at ways to combine results? For example, I could take 2 and 3 and get a large number of daily searches with a competition level that still is lower than either of the other two.

What is really interesting to me, is that the top phrase gets so much more traffic than my other ideas that if I combine them in Google trends, the other ideas look like lines along the bottom of the chart. For that to be the case, and still have subphrase results like these seems to indicate a vast inefficiency in how the net covers this topic. And no, it's not one of the perennial ones that Ed told us to avoid.

Thanks in advance,
Ewan

That was a great summary Caro! You saved me a lot of time in taking my own notes, so thanks heaps.

Thanks Nez

The main thing too - I wanted to re-iterate.

Is that your driver will be the under 25,000 (max 30,000) searches at this stage.

You DO NOT want to be going after keywords that have over that.

Why is that?

To give you a much better chance of success in getting listed by google and getting a good share of the traffic if you move ahead with it - you'll be competing against less.

Why we suggest not to completely throw a whole keyword list out - is say you do find a keyword phrase that has the required number of competitive searches, but crappy traffic in Wordtracker.

We'll show you how to double check that with another tool tomorrow.

And then it can work in the reverse too.

This tool is like the 'bastion' for traffic searches - Robert will explain why in the video too.

The targeted end result is to have a keyword phrase with 80-100 searches (verified in the tool to come) and under 25k-30k competing pages (you can tell that now).

As for the 'Uniques" questions - please note these are not a way to differentiate from one keyword to another.

Why Robert bought it up, is that should a keyword pass all the tests (2 videos still to come) - then you should have confidence that if you create optimized content you have a reasonable chance of being listed by Google.

Best to you all

Caro
