Hello All
Now before anyone yells at me for bring this up (I've read the other threads) but, I've heard nothing about "wordpress.org" OK, WPdirect has more functionality and easier to use than wordpress.com. But, wordpress.org has great functionality, great plug ins and it is also free. So can someone put this to rest and tell us why would we use WPdirect (which is a paid service) over wordpress.org? I have a few sites that are doing very well with WP.org. This one braininjuryattorneyssoutherncalifornia[dot]net is #2 in MSN out of almost 2 million sites, and it is #1 in google out of 144,000. So if this can be done with a free service like WP.org why pay for WPdirect? I understand that 30DC may be making a few dollars off 30DCer's who use WPdirect, and that fine, were all here to make money right? But is that the reason WPdirect is suggested and not wordpress.org? Now I'm not trying to get an argument started here! I just want to know why WPdirect over wordpress.org. |

Hey a reply from the man himself!
Thanks ED! But I'm a bit confused here. You say WordPress.org is not commercial but, if you look at WordPress › Showcase » Hypebeast this is a site that wordpress.org is showcasing. (encouraging, promoting) If you go to this site that wordpress.org is showcasing Air Jordan Spizike Mars Edition | Hypebeast and click on a particular shoe it takes you to an affiliate site which is marqueesole This person is definitely using wordpress.org and links on their site are going to an affiliate page. I know wordpress.com is not commercial but it sure looks like wordpress.org is? Am I missing something here? Thanks for the in-put!! P.S. You can also find this site by going to WordPress › Blog Tool and Publishing Platform and clicking on showcase. |

I pretty sure Ed meant Wordpress.com not .org
Basically the reason for WPD as to Wordpress.org is that the 30DC consist of a good share of newbies that would be greatly held back with the main focus of the 30DC training trying to also learn installing a WP blog. WPD makes getting your blog up with all the plugins (already configured) quick and easy, where as using a self hosted WP blog (Wordpress.org) requires setting up and maintaining yourself which for the new and non techie can be a challenge in itself and would require a 30day course alone. You can use Wordpress.org (self hosted/maintained) if you want and have the tech nohow WPD is not mandatory ![]() ***

I've wondered about this too. That's a good reason about newbies. I have several blogs up already and have already put a lot of work into installing plug-ins etc. It did take a lot of time to get up to speed on knowing what plug-ins to install etc. so I imagine that it would be very daunting to someone less computer savvy. I plan on sticking with my blogs as they are, but if wpdirect does a lot of back end stuff for you, may well be worth your time savings for the cost.

I am pleased somebody actually asked this question!

For people wanting to move up a level I would recommend running their own version of Wordpress, along with the necessary plugins and ping lists required. (Experience is required - It is not for newbies) I now write custom plug-ins and themes to meet my customers requirments for their blogs, which have great SEO, perform well on Google, so I am happy and so are my customers.
