That's the mistake there.... Ed said to provide QUALITY content. You're job was not to make two posts trying to talk people into buying crap.

You're job was to provide excellent content. To go above and beyond what the vistor expected. And for God sakes, why promote crap? You should at least try and promote a quality product that your customer/visitor would be happy to buy. Never promote crap.

For some reason my sites are still active on tumblr...

Not sure why I haven't been tumbled yet...although my content is unique and helpful it does contain affiliate links

Darren,
Team Canada

PS Anyone else still have active tumblr accounts?

I don't know much about the mechanics of this theory, but here is what I think happened:

"X" thousand people (30 DC'rs) all created one or more content-rich sites that link with affiliate links —> tumblr robots and/or people look at the drastic spike in new accounts and think "This is not normal, it must be some sort of robot making spam on our site." —> {Strongbad voice:} "BDELETED..." and then some more, "BDELETED... BDELETED... BDELETED..." Then they start singing "Meedle-me meedle-me meeeeee," just because they can (and because Strongbad plays such great air guitar they like to imitate him.).

It isn't the end of the world, though. There are thousands (okay, maybe hundreds would be more accurate) of other sites out there you can apply the same techniques with—Ed said in the video [...you did watch, right?] that Tumblr is an example...

Doesn't look too good. My tumblelogs are gone. They might be deleted by a moderator or editor at Tumblr, or it might be an automatic system that deletes tumblelogs with affiliate links. I'm packing my things and finding another Web 2.0 property.

Hope to hear from Ed/Dan soon.

p.s. Maybe Ed/Dan should have given Tumblr a head's up to expect a sudden influx of blogs and to explain the challenge a little and the goals about providing excellent content above all else. They obviously are pulling a "Google Slap" and painting all blogs with the same brush.
Hi

I had assumed that Ed/Dan had given them a 'heads up'

Mine is also suspened, and I hadn't even loaded the content still setting up.
But if you look on reddit there's a constant stream of 'my new site" links to tunblr so no wonder they are being defensive.

I suspect it's just a matter of time before they get to the others....

One of mine got suspended...it was a 500 page article with two affiliate links at the end. Nothing pushy, just a subtle call to action...like a press release.

THe keyword didn't start with "how to"

I suspect we'll have to diversify across web 2.0 platforms. After all, tumblr isn't the holy grail. Check out the sticky at the top...Caro listed several other platforms we can use....

It seems common that the sites starting "how to" have gone first if yours didn't start maybe you will be ok. I would back up quick if you have not already done so just to be sure.

A little official comment would be nice around now guys.
Many thanks

GUYS DON'T f*****G COMPLAIN DAN AND DALE TOLD US THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN.

Go on blogspot or hubpages or whatever else and get your seat there. And for the others that still have their blogs active go and backup your content because soon you won't be able to recover.

They:

Deleted stuff that had NO links (refferal or otherwise)

Deleted stuff that didn't have "how to"

Deleted stuff that had more than 3-4 posts

Basically they deleted EVERYTHING that isn't "geek rambling about his day", type of content.

Yeah, Unless Ed/Dan gives me a better option, I'm probably going to use my own host with WordPress.
