Gosh guyd we have totally hijacked your thread. Hope your question was answered way back there

Seriously tho (on the free of fee thing) most people whether they pay or not will not stick it out one way or the other.

I would feel a kind of moral dilemma telling someone to pay for something that you know they are not going to need/use in 12 months time. Yeah I know, that sort of thinking will never make me rich, but it keeps me feeling comfortable at night when i go to sleep.

Hey Allison!

I'm a little confused. Why does it matter if someone buys a product they need today if in the future they may or may not need it?

I bought my tax software because I need it now for my tax return. I don't care that I have no use for this in November and I'm sure the developer doesn't care that there is no use for the product 11 months out of the year.

What about when people have a virus and buy a virus scanning software. They're buying it now because they need to clean their computer. They may or may not need it in the future, but does it really matter if they're going to need it later?

I'm sure you've bought things because you needed it now and may never use it again.

Is there really a moral dilemma for this? There really isn't anything to feel guilty about.

Now if you're knowingly ripping people off by recommending a terrible product just so you can get a sale.. then that's something that you should feel guilty about. Not recommending something that a person needs that is fairly priced.

Just my 2 cents.

nahhh Shannon

What I meant was knowingly telling mums and dads to go off and use XYZ knowing that 99.9% of them will not have the motivation to go ahead and do anything with it. In some cases not even the motivation to unsubscribe from monthly services The have wasted their money.

On the flipside I also don't believe in saving people from themselves either. Hence my moral dilemma.

In the end I probably think about these things too much

bucks to get ahead. And if that option is available I think it
should be utilized instead of handcuffing the entire group by
offering only the free alternatives to cater only to those who
don't have the cash to spend.

But without a doubt, I think the overwhelming amount of options
should be free. Even with mailing lists, I think Get Response has
a free option. It has ads displaying, but it's free. In a scenario
like that, I think it would be wise to say....

"here's Get Response for free, and here's Aweber for $19.99 a
month".

or...

"here's NVU free website builder, and here's XsitePro for $197".

I don't see the harm in offering the free versions, and then
offering the versions that will make your life so much easier.
Well said, Jason. I personally would love to be recommended services, that the experienced have used, and can shortcut things for me.

Dan's service is going to be a moderated, spam free, peer-to-peer social bookmarking service...

Otherwords, the service will automatically post my content on a random number of other TDCs accounts. It's not just automating the processing of posting to my own social sites (which there are a lot of options for already). It's the power of having your content shared on other members accounts as if they "showed the love" themselves all done automatically that is the REAL POWER of this service.

I'm really looking forward to when this is live.

p.s. status updates would be nice though...
Oh, It looks like I didn't get it
In this case I'm sorry for what I said and it's brilliant idea to use this tool. It really is.

No Montana, not yet.

Ed and Dan usually send out updates via Twitter so if you are not following them yet it would be a good idea to.
