Jing is also a very good fit as well
Jing is very good & simple to use but seems to only have a 5 minute recording limit - might just be the version I have.

Pretty certain that's a limitation of the software and how it is supposed to work

I used to be a die hard PC fan (you know, the cheesy guy in the business suit but after seeing what Ed can do with his Mac computer I think I may be switching as soon as I can afford a decent Mac Pro

I have started yearning for the aesthetics of the Mac but after taking a close look at the iLife suit and seeing what Ed can do with his videos I'm sold.

It's my goal to earn enough money (around $3,000 for the configuration I want) online to buy a Mac Pro - which means I have to suffer through the beginning days with a PC.

Exactly same here, except, I am saving for a nice 24 inch iMac. Though, i was always secretly in favor of mac, just thought they were too expensive and didn't have enough (that was more than 2 years ago). I'm just sick of constant virus attacks, errors and I barely play games on the pc anymore (there's always bootcamp).

Let's see if I can get to that £1700 (that's 50,000 US dollars guys, :P) so I can get that beautiful iMac.

Best of luck to you Daiyaan

The amount of virus attacks are sickening in the PC world - I have to re-format my hard drives every six months and that's with good antivirus installed

And to those who are wondering hacking Mac OS to run on PC hardware is not a viable alternative...

That's true, although it can be done. However I read that the stability dumped when it was. Hackintosh is a big community now, but few people use it as there main machine. TBH why would you. I saw a dual core iMac on ebay for £380 the other night with 20" monitor.

My advice watch out for any macs whose auctions finish at post 11:30pm they always go for significantly less than their value.

Use auctionstealer.com free account to bid automatically in the last 10 seconds

That is a good tip there about the ebay site... I will have to try that out one of these days.

I know that you can hack a mac to run on PC hardware (have done it before) but on a P4 2.8 GHz with 1 GB memory running mac os you spend more time waiting for the software to load than you do actually working - hence it is not a viable alternative (also the fact that it crashes about 3 out of 5 program launches.

My ideal mac configuration (mac pro) is this: 2x 2.8 GHz Quad Core processors, 4 gb memory, 256 mb video with dual outputs, 500 GB hard drive, 20" Flat panel display (currently have a 15" CRT monitor on my PC so that's going to be a big upgrade), 16x SuperDrive, and built-in wireless.

I plan on doing a lot of video and audio editing as my primarly blog is about home beer brewing. I want to get to the point where I am doing my own "online" brewing shows - similar to cooking shows that you see on TV...

Forget California Dreaming, I'm Macintosh Dreaming

me too but i want two screens even two 17", if you are doing video you will find two screens amazing!

personally i would take a leap with something lower spec i got my dual g4 powermac with all thrown in delivered for £300. Of course its not as fast when i want to convert video formats, etc, as i would like, but hey standard stuff like screenflow, flock ,imovie6 etc are perfectly good and run with little noticeable problems.

i say take the jump as early as possible, learn to live and upgrade later, i cant tell you how a mac changes your view IM, video, etc

There is also the added wisdom that is easier to get the money for a smaller mac than hold out for the Cadillac - I basically have to "earn" this Mac using only money that I earned through Internet marketing.

Although it's nice to have a Cadillac for a first car it just isn't always practical...
