Default Wow... 15,000 + from StumbleUpon in 3 days!

I started my blog in Mid January & have built it up to 110 visitors a day. I might check my stats once a week or so. The novelty of checking it daily wore off back in April. Today I was in the Cpanel & decided to take a look at the stats.

June showed 3346 unique visitors. Then I looked at July... 19,250! I thought something was wrong, so I hit refresh. It still showed 19,250 unique visitors.

OK, I scroll down to see what's up. It turns out StumbleUpon has sent 15,000+ visitors to the blog post from Sunday.

Wow, the power of social media.

You're right Micronet. It looks like the 30DC is arriving just in time.

Originally I set this up for 2 reasons:

1. To establish a personality for my copywriting business.
2. To practice writing.

Lately I've been thinking how can I expand the focus of the blog. It will be exciting to see what happens with the 30DC this year.

Keith

Many people say, that StumpleUpon traffic is completely useless. They just stay for seconds and never buy anything.

That can be the case depending on the kind of page that has been stumbled. For example, humor does very well on SU - a funny picture, cartoon etc. In those cases there is very little enticement for the visitor to stick around.

However not all content is like that. StumbleUpon has been the single biggest source of traffic to my blog each and every month since I started it almost a year ago. My blog readership has grown consistently month after month and many people write to me to say that they found my blog via SU.

I am so thrilled by what SU can do that I wrote a whole course on it! Check my sig

I would think Stumble is the ultimate in 'testing' your site.

If we agree with the '10 seconds to grab their attention' concept - what better tool and situation!

I dont know, how true it is. I just read it when searching for SU.

For me the problem is, that I dont geht any SU-traffic. But what do you have to do to get accepted by SU?

I gave thumbs to all sites I like during the last weeks, used the bar, surfed around the web with it.

But I did not get any traffic on my site, after I added it with the SU-Bar. Even after a few friends gave it "thumbs up" during the next days, nothing change. No SU-traffic at all. I tried it on three sites. The same evertime.

One thing I learned from trade shows is that you only have .01/sec to grab someone's attention. So, if I have a pair of eyes on my site for longer than that, I'm thinking it's my fault they're not interested.

On the flip side, one wouldn't try and sell poodles at a law enforcement convention. So, I suppose if the market is totally unqualified for your niche it would mostly be useless...

Get a few friends to stumble your article and get fans. The more fans, the more power your stumble/review gets.

I get a lot of traffic from SU but the majority of it is garbage.

I'm here because I found Carolines site via SU, as someone stumbled her twitter guide, and then she blogged about the 30 day challenge. Thus.... even if traffic doesn't necessarily convert due to SU traffic, it may well convert to someone else within the community. This is what makes social networking cool.... had I just come across the 30 day challenge, I would likely have just passed it on by... yet a credible source brought it to my attention... and I have passed it along as well. (already got 1 referral point!!!)
