Default Yahoo vs google.

Do not install analytics!! do not install analytics!!! do not install analytics!!!

Ok, here's the deal, google offers a very powerful site stats software called analytics.

it's probably the best tool out there, but it comes at a significant cost (not monetary, but much more dearer).

It uses the stats obtained from analytics to rank your pages, it's great news if you're site is genuinely the best in your niche, however if you have a high bounce rate, analytics will use that info and send that info to it's pagerank assor type thingy-me-jig to rank down your sites.

I am #4 on my primary keyword, and #5 in my secondary keyword, in yahoo

in google I'm ~#65 in my secondary keyword, and ~#380 in my primary keyword.

Goes to show the huge disparity.

Cough Bullshit Cough.

The algorithms of Google and Yahoo are totally Different. I rank #1 on Google for terms and 15 in yahoo for the same terms.

To rank High in Google you need to meet certain criteria and have a significant amount of keyworded term backlinks.

Google analytics does not EFFECT your Search Engine Results in Google.

If you want to PM me your URL and your Search TERMS I will tell you why you are so LOW in Google. It's Called SEO - Search Engine Optiminzation

Analytics DOES affect your google site ranking, I have another website where I was getting 50 hits a day from searches, and as soon as I installed analytics, I received between 15 to 20 a day.

Sources to back this up

Not really Authority Sites you reference Tiger...Sorry Why Don't you post this to SEOChat or Matt Cutts Blog, and see what they have to say out it.

Your Statements are mis-leading and basically down right Wrong. But you quote this...

1) a blog that still has the Word Press Classic Theme and the Default About Page.
domain: diorex.com
created: 10-May-2008

2) a site selling wicked evil social bookmarketing ebook.. and discussing Bounce Rate Tests and seeing their site rank increase?

I can absolutely understand how someone looking at one set of Website logs could add Google Analytics see lower numbers and assume that that there was a cause and effect, but it makes zero sense. Google badly wants people to use its analytics program for all sorts of reasons. Not all of the reasons are noble unless you're Google trying to make a buck. But the fact is that there's no way they would shoot themselves in the foot by penalizing sites that use their tool.

Now if you had said that Yahoo! penalizes people for installing GA maybe I'd say that's interesting how do they know that. After all who doesn't love a conspiracy, but Google trying to hurt its own bottom line just doesn't fly.

I have to agree with Eric here.

With the greatest respect, this post brings up a valuable lesson in IM. ANYBODY can have an opinion and blog about it. The problem is that these opinions somehow become solid facts in the minds of unknowing people looking for information.

99% of the time these opinions are made by people who don't have a clue or have read something out of context because they are not experienced enough to evaluate the information.

Our business cannot survive on crap information so we have to learn from those top dogs in our niche. Believing and acting upon a blog or forum post from someone you don't know is pure madness.

Seek out the top SEO experts and Google analysts and they all recommend using Google analytics.

Here's an important point, that seems to be missed.

If you are in Google, and people get to your website via Google Search -- guess what? They ALREADY know your bounce rate! They don't need you to have installed Google analytics installed on your site to figure this out.

It's FAIRLY well known (I think) that Google is rumored use "time on site" as part of it's ranking algo.

So let's go back a step.

If Google is actually using "bounce rate" on your site to aid in ranking -- um, gosh! What a wonderful thing to know! You know WHAT TO FIX!

Let's summarize:
1. Google doesn't need to have analytics on your site to figure out a bounce rate,
if you are receiving traffic from Google.
2. If you have a high bounce rate -- well, fix it.
(Incidentallly, copywriter & conversion specialists can help with that! )

PS David -- how would yahoo know whether you have ga installed? Oh, the same way it knows about other stuff on your site -- it crawls it.

I can only report on my personal experience, I've pm'd bigebiz with my findings, and given him info on my site.

I know that there is a disparty between google and yahoo - since they rank pages differently, However, I don't expect to be ranked on page 1 on yahoo, and page 38 on google.

Assuming that both sites want to list quality websites higher up on the rankings, you'd expect some similarity in the rankings of pages.. I'd expect a 2-3 page difference, but 38 pages???

A quick update in the situation

My listing on the primary keyword has gone up from page 38 to page 4 on google , after I asked them to remove my analytics account

furthermore

My listing on my secondary keyword has gone up from page 15 to page 2 on google, after I asked them to remove my analytics account

So there you go, it's up to everyone to make their own decisions and choices, but I hope you're open minded and willing to TEST things out for yourself.

My bounce rate was pretty low on this website, I bought google adwords traffic primarily, and was extremely targeted, bouce rate was 22% on average (web average bouce rate is 35%).

Yet google listed me down on the nether regions, I'm assuming because of my low hitcount.

Tiger

p.s. I want to point out that I don't hate google, I'm not anti-google in any way shape or from. This post isn;'t about giving google the finger, I use and enjoy a LOT of google services, they're making the web free, and they unshackled me from ebay because it gave me an easy way to build a site, get traffic and take payments for far less than ebay + paypal. I own Google a lot of gratitude, but analytics is just evil..
