Default Forum Rules For 30DC 2008

Hi there 30DCers,

I am posting this on behalf of Ed & Dan, and it is an update of the forum rule for 2008's 30DC.

Which has just got into gear - as I type this we are on Day One - WHOO HOO!

Here are the update rules for 2008:

1) No bashing, flaming, arguing, shouting, or running with scissors.

2) No pimping sites and affiliate programs - in the content of your post, or in your signature.

3) Your signature is to have ONE Friend Feed Link ONLY - in 'normal' sized font. And you can also include a quote of your choice.

Plus Ed has OK'd that you might want to include a simple acknowledgment of how many 30DC's you've done ie: 30DC 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008

The purpose of this 3rd rule is to keep the Forum clean and uncluttered with massive signatures.

AND it offers you the opportunity to have whatever you want in your Friend Feed database - to understand more about Friend Feed, please watch the tutorial pertaining to that in Pre-Season 2008.

4) There is to be no self promotion, or using the 30DC in any way to build your own lists, or promote your own products.

So if you create your own blog, to blog about your own 30DC journey, please do not use it as a way to further leverage your own business.

Please also refer to this Thread regarding the Forum and what each section is for:

How The Forum Works: What Each Section Is For: Where To Post What

There have been some changes made there - so we recommend you read this thread, so that your post does not end up being Moderated

Many thanks for respecting this.

I promise you - with this years 30 Day Challenge!

You Are In For The Ride Of Your Life!

Caro

I think these rules will only make the forum a better place. This will discourage people who are here to help but would like to promote their products directly, but at the end of the day, the forum is cleaner and more helpful to newbies.

Personally I do think this approach is better than the other marketing forums, but let's see how it works.

Put links to them in Friendfeed and your Twitters - that way folks will find them if they are interested.

Default Clarification

Sorry, i meant the other way around!

Like, when chatting in our forums, blogs etc - how much if any do we say about our progress on 30Day C ?

Lots of people have 'daily musings' or 'a day in the life of a writer' - that sort of thing.

(PS Sorry if off topic, but does that trackback thing at the bottom of our posts do the same trackbacking thing as blogs etc? Please could you elaborate? Thank you - don't know if I'm doing the right url there!)

It is completely up to you what you write about the 30DC on your own blog or in other forums. Many people will be writing about their experiences and you can even blog your daily notes from the training if you want (although it would be a good idea to link to the website so people can sign-up themselves if they are interested). My personal preference is to write about what you are learning personally as you go through the challemge.

If you are writing about the challenge I would suggest you avoid mentioning your actual niche. In previous years we have referred to it as sausagemaking. This just means that people don't grab your ideas to avoid doing the research work themselves.

Lisa

P.S. Not sure how the trackbacks work. Sorry. I feel I should but it has passed me by!

Lisa's direction is spot on

You are completely entitled to offer your own thoughts to your 30DC.

The key is to not look to profit from it (building a list, saying you are a 'teacher' of it, trying to spruik a product of yours to the audience you get to your blog about your 30DC experiences) - which I know you are not

Caro,

Please explain what you mean by "pimping sites" in the forum rules. In the USA, pimping refers to the marketing of prostitutes. So, is this refering only to sites which would be in that category? Or, do you mean just any site which promotes something unsavory ? Or, do you just mean any site?

Thanks,
Charles
