Default E-Books

This can be very profitable IF -
  • The quotes / inspiration are for desperate people seeking help
  • e-books that can be sold to "fix" them

Thus - a how to be successful quotes/affirmations with e-books sold to teach them guided visualization of being successful, etc.

Just thinking out loud, but that's what I would pursue if that was really my passion.

I think the feedback given so far on this thread is right on. As several people have mentioned, you need to look for a problem that people have that they are desperate to solve TODAY. What are the problems that drive people to use your counselling/conciliation services? One example that comes to mind for me is the ebook at Stop Your Divorce! By Homer McDonald. That is an early-Internet success story that is still going strong.

Incidentally, the marketing genius behind StopYourDivorce is Dean Jackson. He interviewed the expert (the guy whose name is on the book) then wrote and marketed the ebook.

Quotes? Who wants to buy quotes? That is something everyone can get quite a lot of for free. Find something that you can sell. Books, cd's, dvd's or what not that address those inspirational issues.
I think your problem is perspective. You see the world in the way you expect it should be seen. Let go of your expectations and look at the problem from another direction.
Oh, and STOP referencing yourself in negative terms. I an serious, KNOCK IT OFF! If you keep saying all those negative things about yourself you will limit what you can do. You are AWESOME, I really believe that. You have perseverance and diligence. You keep trying when so many others would quit. You are actually quite inspirational yourself.

Another suggestion...try thinking about your niches in terms of the Christian audience. e.g. Stop Your Divorce for Christians

A couple of things to add.

First of all the Market Samurai results are for PER DAY.

SEOT is traffic per day.

And you want above 80 per day.

Mykl, it does sound to me as if you are attached to your idea

All you can do is test it.

If you get the numbers using the Market Samurai tool, the next step is testing it.

If you tested it last year and it didn't convert - I think it would be reasonable to question why you would go back and do it again this year?

I'd think be inclined to think the reason is that you are attached to the market.

This particular market is one I am exploring - I am a Coach, Trainer, Consultant, Speaker, Author blah blah in my life prior to IM. So personal development is something I am very VERY passionate about.

I thought I'd use this years 30DC to FINALLY find the entry point I need to pursue my dream of getting myself online in that capacity.

Bottom line - if the keywords are not giving me the green light, then I don't go any further in that direction. I'm exploring lots of different entry points - and I take what I see, as what I see, and if it's not what I want to ideally, I accept it and explore another avenue.

This is the same for ALL of us, no matter what niche we may be looking at.

I'd also offer that for any of us to offer and opinion of whether a market will 'work or not' is null and void unless we have gone out and tested it ourselves and have results to refer to.

First step - Market Samurai research criteria - DO NOT PROCEED with a keyword phrase if it doesn't meet what you've been taught - simple.

Second Step - Test online for conversion - we're still to come to that. Though the results are clear - people buy/they don't.

I think one of the key things you need to do in your own mind (all of us need to ) is remove the emotional attachment to something and also the longing that it will be a winner - that's why we have this process - to give you a feedback where your time will be best used.

You CAN do this Mkyl - I think you just need to approach it with more of a clear head and less emotion - difficult I know - and necessary to succeed

Best to you

Caro

Take a step back and think about the difference between the following terms:

"horse pictures"

"horse breeders"

If someone has just entered one of these terms into Google, which one is mostly likely a buyer of something? Which one is just searching for information? This is just an example, but the thought process of your potential visitors is what always matters -- the only thing that matters.

Once you "get it," you'll be able to easily scan through lists of keywords eliminating the chaff.

Hi,
Just a quick note... Market Samurai has provided the answer, if you look into the OCI column. The meaning of the OCI was given in one fo the videos of MS training.. can remember witch, but OCI is the "Comercial Intent" (or somewhat like that).

Phrase - - - Searches - - - SEOT - - - SEOC - - - OCI
relationship quotes - - - 1332 - - - 559 - - - 30000 - - - ?
happy quotes - - - 2975 - - - 1250 - - - 12200 - - - 8%
meaningful quotes - - - 487 - - - 205 - - - 28000 - - - 6%
quotes about death - - - 325 - - - 137 - - - 11000 - - - ?
encouraging quotes - - - 325 - - - 137 - - - 10700 - - - 59%
philosophical quotes - - - 487 - - - 205 - - - 21600 - - - ?
encouragement quotes - - - 325 - - - 137 - - - 24500 - - - ?

The only meaningful keyprase is "encouraging quotes".

Now, I guess that you can guess that people don't generaly buy "Quotes" (may be the the exception is "Stock quotes")

In this case, I would go one level up... for example encouragement, and the drill down again.
Relationships is a good one, but is too competitive (unless you go deep enogh).

Default Just a firehose of wisdom - as usual

Guys,
As usual I'm overwhelmed with the caring responses. If I were to ask you your best kept secret to success, you'd just dole it out - y'all are great. I just want to comment to some of you and then show you a link at the end (so to skip the fluff, go to the bottom )

First, many of you talked about my need to be thinking about something to buy. So to take that out of my hands, I personally set an additional filter on OCI and require at least a 40% monetization number. This wasn't suggested anywhere, but it's just to force me to think commerce. Thanks for putting that in my mind.

@IMStrong - I fully accept your comments about my "stinkin' thinkin'" I think when I write from that perspective, it is partly to emote the minor despair of struggling through the hard part - which for me is the 1st movement of the 4 part symphony. It also helps others struggling to empathize. However, too much of something like that can sink in too deep and actually become part of one's mindset. So the warning is well heeded. Thank you... I ROCK

@Tina & @Fern - I like the way you take an idea and "give it a nudge" or "twist it" to slide into an adjacent market niche that may be more manageable. Thanks for exposing that way of looking at and thinking through niche/micro-niche ideas.

@jerrytm - I got your private message. I will look into it and tell you what I find. Can never be too prepared!

@Caro - As always, you have a keen insight on what's really going on under the surface. It reminds me of a wise proverb that says:
Quote:
The purposes of a man's heart are deep waters, but a man of understanding draws them out.
You know how to draw those deep waters from the well.

I have been wrestling with the Samurai and my main phrase for the challenge has nothing to do with my black holes of thinking. In fact it would be a niche that would interest my wife and kids (not me so much). But it qualifies - so I'm going after it. And maybe I can enlist their help and make this a family affair as well!

Thanks again to all, generous hearts all around.

-- The Bottom of the Note is Here ---
Just so you know, thanks to doing battle with the Samurai, (s)he has blessed me with a niche. To avoid duplication: I talk about it and share my competition here.

I hope this might get analyzed on the show tonight. But for me tonight and tomorrow night are my kids last two swimming lessons. So I'll miss the first 90 minutes of the show. So if it happens, I'll have to catch it on the recording. Those rapid, rabid chats are so fun though... alas. But my kids knowing how not to drown is much more important to me - sorry!

Lightbulb The solution to your problem!

You seem to have done everything this year and last year almost right, but not quite. You were correct in the numbers you were looking at for number of searches a day and competition (SEOT and SEOC), which are all in the range gurubob recommends. HOWEVER, you did not look at profitability. When you analyze your keywords, last year you didn't look at the value associated with the words you chose. This year, you did include SEOV numbers, but did you notice how low they are?! You want percentages above 70% (or at least above 50%!) because this is the percentage of clicks that turns into paying customers. It is these percentages that are so low for all of the quote-related keywords you have examined, which means that when people go online and search for quotes, they are most likely looking for free content (there is information on this EXACT example in the black book from market samurai). If I were you, I would switch to another market this year, or look at inspirational books or items with inspirational sayings instead of "quotes". You don't have to give up your idea of providing something people "need", but make sure that it is something that they also plan to spend money on. Don't forget to check for profitability and good luck!
