Yes, you will get an email telling you that you are banned.

It doesn't' matter if you post excellent content or not. The TOS state not to bookmark you own stuff. I've posted good stuff (my own with no selling or adsense) & been banned.

So be careful with some of the services. Some you can submit your stuff all day, other 2or 3 posts and your gone.

I'd like to ask a question about socialmarker.com and social bookmarking in general.

As I watch the video, I see that Ed has submitted his blog to StumbleUpon, Digg and Propeller. Am I understanding correctly that this practice can get you banned?

Am I understanding correctly that Delicious is safe because it is a true social bookmarking site?

I see there are a ton of other true bookmarking sites listed on socialmarker.com, and since time is tight (single mom playing catch up here) I am wondering if there are some sites that I can focus on and some that I can get to later.

All ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated by both me and my daughter (she's hungry and doesn't want to eat cereal again tonight!)

P.S. Thank you Caroline for the link to your blog. I found the information very useful.

I think the most important thing to be aware of is to be respectful without becoming fearful/paranoid.

Read the terms and conditions of each.

I have actually never been banned from any. And that might just be luck who knows.

I know that I would only use Social Marker once in a day for one piece of content.

I saw someone on another thread saying they use both Social Marker and Social Poster - but with different accounts. That to me is starting to get spammy.

I think rule of thumb is treat it as if you were genuinely interested in the piece of content and wanted to 'share it with the world' - then sharing it vai Social Marker is fine.

And some sites such as Propeller wont accept Squidoo lens - cool bananas, I move on to the next site....

Caro -

Thanks as always for your thoughtful and prompt reply.

Can you (or someone else) please address the plethora of other listed on socialmarker.com (besides SU, Digg, et al) that one should concentrate on, or is the idea to sign up for each and every one of those sites listed?

Thank you!

I think it's really your call.

Ed had suggested only going for 5.

Robert prefers to sign up to all of them.

I'm signed up with about 25 - but need to sign up with the rest (it just gets monotonous lol).

I'd say sign up with all. And then with each post - you pick which ones to post in. I do like to spread the love around.

Stumbleupon, Delicious, Digg and Propellor would be some of the 'top' choices - but again I check that the stuff is OK for that environment.

I think I might outsource all the signing up.

While I am at, I think I'll outsource my house cleaning too...

...at least for the month of August!

Thanks again.

Just to add a little to the mixing pot...

Newsvine: I wasn't banned but did receive a polite email saying they have removed all my own material and pointed me toward their T&C.

Delicious: Extract from their T&C

"You understand that the creation of bookmarks in Delicious for purposes of specifically boosting exposure of a site in Delicious and/or search engines is a breach of these Delicious Terms, that Delicious views such entries as spam and that Delicious reserves the right to take appropriate action to restrict such entries up to and including termination of your access to Delicious."

So, if I read this correctly then you could quite happily bookmark hundreds of your own links and get away with it for some time and then Delicious could possibly chuck out all your bookmarking.

Am I missing something?

Ade

PS Thinking this through I think there is a need for a well organized and limited number Buzz group to start up after the 30DC ends. PM me if interested. No costs involved. (Mods: if the PS is inappropriate please delete)

As I have said before - we expect people to self moderate.7

Respect for the system is key.

Those warnings are for people that spam the system.

We can not offer an exact number to post a day.

Ed is a great example of someone who does post his Tubbynerd blog posts to Delicious - because it's his own personal file - AND he also has a LOT of other things posted there related to different IM topics and his hobbies.

You can tell it's real and organic.

That's what you are to aim for.

And you need to learn what the balance is for yourself using ALL the input we've offered so far

Caro, a great answer and that is exactly right.

Finding the balance by experience is what it's all about. It's impossible to know every scenario but for sure nothing is going to be perfect and until you try you will never know.

Ade

PS Good Squidoo video
