Hello Challengers!
Today you’re open for business! You’ll tell the world about the awesomeness that is your new site with social bookmarking. And what’s really cool is because you set up your analytics yesterday, you’ll be able to see the world beating a path to your online door right before your eyes! There is one video in Lesson 8: Social Bookmarking - Ed explains how social bookmarking lets people know about sites you’re interested in and how you can use its power to take you a step closer to earning your first dollar. The video runs about 15 minutes. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE LESSON 8 VIDEO And be sure to watch Ed's intro video on the lesson page. He offers some encouragement because the next few days will be tough; not technically (thank goodness!), but because your offline life will almost certainly throw a few distractions your way and make your think twice about completing The Challenge. Cheers, Collette

Hi folks.
Since the topic today is Social Bookmark, I want to share with you my favorite Social Bookmark Tool I use. It's Diigo. Believe me. It's awesome. It's almost a social network that on the subject of your favorite sites. You can create groups to share nice URLs making easy to find later by tags and searches, lists of pages with a special slideshow resource.. Diigo also has page annotation and highlighting to give be direct to subject in the page you are recommending. You might be asking: "But I've already having tons of bookmarks in Delicious". You not only can export them and import in Diigo, but you also can set that every bookmark you make with Diigo, it's replicated also in Delicious, Ma.gnolia and Simpy. It's been a great tool to me, and I think might help you so. If your goal is Social Bookmark, it's hard to find something more social tan that. ![]() I've already created Diigo a group for us, feel free to join. Thirty Day Challenge - Group | Diigo |

Even though I am a moderator here what I am about to say is my personal opinion on this subject and this is an area where I would prefer to add some distinctions to Ed's message.
Social bookmarking is the process of storing your browser bookmarks on a website such as delicious. These are public so they create backlinks to your content which is great and because they are your bookmarks nobody can complain about what you bookmark. However, Digg, Propeller, StumbleUpon etc are not bookmarking sites - the first two in particular are social news sites and SU is a discovery tool. What they all have in common that is distinctly different from bookmarking is that when you share content, you are implcitly asking other people to vote on it. Digg don't like sites about vintage guitars, or underwater kickboxing, or toenail clipping. Nor do StumbleUpon. Well only if the content is really good and adds solid value - the stuff out of EZine articles does not usually fall into that category. Now StumbleUpon is a different beast entirely and its algorithm takes into account the ratio of sites that you stumble and I absolutely guarantee you that if all you do is stumble one single site you will be banned. Please, heed the warning - YOU WILL BE BANNED from StumbleUpon if all you do is stumble your new niche sites. I have written more about this in the following blog post and that links to others that I wrote in the past. I hope this helps clear things up and I hope Ed doesn't take offence ![]() [edited out as self promotion as wonderful as Caroline is - not within 30DC rules] The advice to actually bookmark all your content is sound - its an excellent strategy but please understand the difference between a bookmarking site and the other types of web 2.0 content sharing sites. Now having said that, StumbleUpon is an excellent source of traffic and if you write good content on your niche sites then you can absolutely submit some of that to SU but you must also stumble other stuff. I have written a course all about that, I won't plug it here - I'm sure you'll find it if you are interested. Last edited by Caro : 08-12-2008 at 01:28 AM. And of course, you should post different websited, it's no good to post 10 links on the same website without any others. But, for example, on Mixx I've been only posting news from my blogs, 3 or 4 of them, so now I get more than 2000 carma points and a "super mixxer" badge ![]() It's all about the content that you actually post...
