WORDPRESSDIRECT CRITICAL UPDATE
Hi Challengers! This is Marty from WordPressDirect. WPD is currently working smoothly for thousands of installs, but we have had some well-reported issues in the forum too. We have been fielding all these issues and want to keep you updated on progress. If you have general questions, just look at the Frequently Asked Questions document we keep updated at; Wordpress Direct » Our FAQ At this point, at least 50% of our support issues deal with hosting problems. Many of these are just general learning, not bugs in our system, but we try to help anyway. I think many of you have learned a LOT in the last few days! I’m very proud that many people who have never put up a website before are ranking #1 or 2 in Google for their chosen terms. This is GREAT! The site is intended to help people unfamiliar with web tools and internet marketing succeed by making the technical tasks easier. With that said, no site or software is perfect. As of this post, here are the current status of significant items we think you should be aware of… Tickets do not get deleted – Please use them – GUARANTEED response We do NOT delete ANY tickets. We answer them ALL. We have disabled guest login so that you must login to view your tickets using your WPD login information. It is impossible to track tickets created with guest logins. Sorry but you MUST use the ticket system. We simply cannot live chat with or take phone calls from thousands of people. We have disabled guest ticket entry, since they are really hard for us to match with WPD users. **IMPORTANT** If you submitted a guest ticket, and you do not see it in the ticket list in your support account, them the best thing to do is go to the email you received from the system and paste it into a new ticket in your support account. Please include the OLD ticket number inside the ticket. After that, if your ticket has gone unanswered for 24 hours, you are free to Private Message me (Harvardave) in the 30DC forum and I will escalate it so it is handled immediately. However, if I see the ticket says ACA (awaiting client action) then I cannot and I will tell you to go look at your tickets (see below). Please review tickets you have filed In many cases we have answered tickets that have then sat for a day or more awaiting your input. We’d like to close these and reports of us not getting to them are untrue. We were caught up with all open tickets about 48 hours ago. So far you’ve all been great with that! Your sites on our domains: Instability My goal for allowing us to host for you was to provide a tremendous amount of value at no expense to you. Many of our paid users have their own hosting. I want to point out that we incur significant expense on your behalf to provide this hosting, largely to the free user base. We have done this to support the Challenge by providing a convenience to those who don't want to deal with domains, hosting, pointing nameservers and waiting for DNS propagation. In general, installations on our hosted domains have been easy and smooth. However, increasing numbers of installations put heavy load on the servers, and many people were trying to catch up on their site installations in the last 36 hours. I think this step of the Challenge has largely passed and the combination of reduced load and increased resource will eliminate the issue. We have added 5 dedicated servers to address this problem as quickly as possible, the last 2 of which are showing up today. When we have sufficient resource handling the load it will be stable again. What hosting companies are supported? (kept updated in the FAQ) The FAQ has the table of supported/unsupported hosts. BlueHost and HostMonster implment a component called Ioncube differently than most. You can now activate and de-activate your plugins using the Site Settings area of WordPressDirect. Why is my site showing Adsense? If adsense is in the theme, it will likely show up and just show Public Service ads. Turning off the plugin in ing the Site Settings area will make all the adsense go away, even if you are using an adsense theme. Themes are not right. I get a nasty message saying the themes are Creative Commons and I can’t do anything? We have done a huge amount on the themes in the last 2 days. Switching to another theme and then re-installing the updated version of your old theme can fix a lot of issues. If you get the bizarre message above – here’s what you do. Open your site settings in WPD, go to the bottom and click ‘Save’. This will make sure everything is OK. Now choose another theme in the Theme Gallery and select ‘Update Existing Theme.’ If you want to go back to your first theme, re-install it using the same instructions above. Sorry for the fuss, but it should eliminate a lot of strange theme-related bad karma. Help! I ran out of installs because they failed and I don’t have a site! If you are a Free user who runs into trouble this way, we will make your account a membership level called 30DCPLUS which allows you to do more installations but otherwise has the limitations of free accounts. At some point in the next week, we will clear your failed installations and reset your account the FREE status. Please file a ticket to the Billing department andmake SURE you say that you ran out of installations. Don’t worry, we know how its is We’ll help.Wow - this stuff really works!
