****TUMBLR - Gate - 08 PLEASE READ UPDATE*****

Hi 30DCers,

Well Tumblr seems to have slapped the 30DC again for 2008.

This was unanticipated, as as another member pointed out in this thread:

WARNING: Use Tumblr with Caution - Day 14

Their current policy appears to be different to their terms and conditions, as identified below (thanks WalterVs ).

Tumblr does not allow affiliate marketing of any kind. No links in posts to sites or blogs selling your products or services.

BTW, this statement of "policy" appears to contradict their own published terms and conditions, which I have pointed out to Marc but whether I will get anywhere with this argument is anyone's guess.

For you guys..what to do...

The key is to not panic, this is just what can happen on the Internet. It can be turbulent seas - and we really did not think this would happen this year, because we were adhering to their terms and conditions (which I suspect will be undergoing a rewrite as I type this lol).

There are PLENTY more Web 2.0 website platforms to choose from.

I understand that we should just move on to another web 2.0 site, but I am confused why Tumblr will not even let me look at their site. I can type Tumblr into my browser and it will not even load the site, is this normal?

I would think they would just suspend the blog I set up on their site not ban me from even viewing other posts...

Terry clear your Tumblr cookie from your browser and you will be fine.

Hey Allison I assume that is the same thing as clearing the cache in Firefox. Or is it something different?

Caro, that's a huge but good list. I had seen it before but man, that thing seems to change (and grow) daily. How best to know which of the sites on their list have authority. Have you found any shortcuts?

I want to point out that last year I set up a web2.0 site just for the 30DC. We had some trouble with hackers and sploggers when we went public with it and had to shut down for a while.

But now its back and available to 30DC members

Its got a PR3 and does very well with Alexa. I got a blog to #2 in Google in about 2 hours with it, so I know its still looked at by the search engines often.

So help yourself to a blog or two, but please make sure when you set one up that you have content ready to go into it. I still have some splogger paranoia and may delete blogs that are empty for a period of time.

If you need any help with it, or would like a specific theme or plugin added, just let me know

This is precisely the reason I didn`t bother with this step this year. Last year it really threw me off . . . I`ve been following the gist of things this year, but tending to use sites that aren`t even mentioned.

It's easy.

1. You cannot do 30DC site with Tumblr.
2. You will never be able to do 30DC sites with Tumblr.

Move on.

What I am sort of confused about is why did "we" decide to even try Tumblr againt his year?

I think they seemed frustrated/angry enough about it last year... why even try again? I havent touched it since they decided my site last year was a spam site, even though there was no links on it at all. (just pure content)

I guess I'm glad that I didnt follow this step this year, so I dont have to worry about it.

Please let me know what you think of Synthasite.
I really do not feel comfortable choosing another 2.0 without some advice hopefully from other TDC members.
If anyone has suggestions I will appreciate it very much.
My Tumblr has a story about my son and a link to my WP blog, that's about it.
