Hi 30DC Peeps,
I just need to bounce this about... I brought a domain that had my keyword in the URL and believed this was a good start in my SEO efforts. However having just done Day 3 I now see the power of Market Samurai and the need to use the values - especially the SEOC of <30,000 So using the training I find that my keyword gets 5,425 searches a day, SEOT: 2,278, PBR: 100% and SEOC: 11,800,000 This is not a good word right? I guess I will need to narrow this down as I see now this is probably more of a market level rather then a niche or micro-niche keyword... My question is - does the fact that I have the keyword in my URL and the others dont make a difference? or does the keyword in the URL not really make a difference... See the SEO matrix generated on the search term... Thanks for the advice people... |

SEOC: 11,800,000 definitely does not indicate a micro niche. One of the reasons why the 30DC sets a SEOC limit is the time in which you get the results. Attacking such a market is not impossible, but it will take a lot more time. And it's not the way the 30DC works.
I recommend you to stick to the 30DC rules to get the most out of your experience. Hope that helps you ![]() PS: I can't find a website in your SEO matrix that ranks with on-page SEO. Better have a look at the training video about the matrix again. All in all I would not attack this KW in a 30DC project.

Thanks for the input... using the Samurai to drill down further I have found a keyword with searches of 1,088 - seot of 456 - pbr of 82% and seoc of 25,200 so I think it's fair to say this is a little more targeted...
Would it be better to use this keyword? I know the 30DC challenge is about making a $1 but I am looking more long term then that - I am wanting to put in time and effort for a good 6 months and then on a continual basis so would this be a better keyword to start with? Thanks Last edited by nixvirgin; 06-23-2010 at 10:33 AM. |

You want as much green as possible in the BLP section, you have mostly red, and try to aim for the PR column to be all under 4.
With BLP (Backlinks to page) you will need to get as many if not more than those sites have by stealing their backlinks and getting more of your own. When the BLD (Backlinks to Domain or the entire website) is as high as this, even if the BLP is very low, then it suggests that theres a lot of authority websites on the first page: eg Wikipedia, Youtube, Branded websites etc etc. This will make it extremely difficult to compete for and will take you a long time especially if you have to go out and build 1000's of links. Look for around 1-200 backlinks to page & domain if possible. With backlinking you have to build slowly and gradually at first especially for a new site so you'll probably be looking at building around 20-30 a day. If you go a keyword where all the first page have an average of 5000 BLP, at the 30 a day rate, you'd take 166 days to catch them up and a lot can happen in 6 months on the internet. Here's a guide: Keyword Research Module: SEOT >80 - the higher the better SEOC <30000 - the lower the competition the better SEOTC <10000 - the lower the competition the better PBR >15% - the higher the better SEOC Module - As much green as possible Off page factors: DA - As low as possible but I don't think has that much of an effect v's a well optimised site (which you will learn how to do here) PR <4 - As low as possible BLP - <100 - the lower the better On page factors: Title - Y URL - Y Desc - Y Head - Y If you hit all Y's on the on page section then this will go red. Try going deeper into your keyword research and don't do things as soon as a video has finished (this is one of the mistakes I made last year). Watch the videos and then rewatch them. If you've already bought the domain you can still optimise for a different keyword however you will lose the factor of the target keyword in URL. HTH |

Thanks for the reply...
I just dont think I can get a keyword with these values... The niche I am targeting is a "dating" niche and so it's already a ver competitive market. I am looking for the long term on this, not looking for the next 30 days but the next 6 months or so... I know this is probably not the best to start with but I feel committed to it and like I say I am in this for the long haul... I have looked again at the keywords and have found one better by narrowing terms to a location so perhaps this would be a better way to go but I just dont think I am going to find that magical keyword while I am looking at a "general" dating opportunity... |

Understand that you aren't looking for results for around 6 months, however the challenge is written so that as you progress it is expected that certain things will happen, such as traffic.
For example in the second half of the challenge it is discussing evaluating advertising words etc, this won't be possible for your site. I would highly suggest that you choose a micro-niche to work on through the 30-day challenge, so that you fully grasp everything that it has to offer and find out what works. On the side you can then build your main site
