Default Domain age vs. keywords in name

When choosing a domain name, which is more important in the eyes of Google: domain age or keywords in the domain name. I've had a domain with my company name for several years, but it contains none of my keywords.

Having an exact match domain is a great help but certainly not the be all and end all. Google themselves say there are a couple hundred factors that go into ranking algorithm.

As for domain age, it's not everything. You can go up against some domains that are 5-10 years old and beat them if their backlinks are not superb but you won't do it in 30 days. Take a 6 month view IMO.

The example below took me 8 months to take the #1 spot. I have half as many backlinks as the now #2. We swap spots on occasion and I think maybe DA has something to do with it combined with the new caffeine update which seems to reward fresh content for a short while.

Neither #1 (me) or #2 have the exact match keyword for the domain. I have keyword suffix and he has half the keyword plus some snazzy term on the end.

There is no reason to look at it as a "one or the other" situation. You can have it all. Buy a new domain with your keywords in it and use it to cross promote your company name domain.

Thanks for your replies. How about if I include the keywords in the page name for the specific product, eg:

www.companyname.com/productkeywords

Would this be a way to have both domain age and keywords in the domain?

No. It gets the keywords into the URL (which is good) but that isn't the same thing as having the keywords in the domain name. Google understands the difference.

Domain age plays a big part in SEO. Google gives a lot of trust to old established sites and having exact match keyword domains can help you rank faster for sure.

You need to choose between a more brandable name or a keyword rich domain. Kinda depends on the site. Like if you are doing lots of adsense sites prob better to use keyword rich domains.

If you wanna run one big website or blog may want a more brandable domain and if you can buy an older domain that can help you move things along faster instead of starting from scratch.

in my opinion age matters but the domain with keywords is more better in the point of SEO. that will give you more sales and benefits.
