You'll get a lot of recommendations, but we use both hostgator and inmotionhosting.
Check with WordPress Direct however to confirm that they support their production on Inmotionhosting.

Default HostGator

I use HostGator for all my hosting, WordPress and HTML sites and have had no trouble with them. I don't use WordPress Direct so I can't comment on how that is going.

HostGator is $7.95 per month if you pay for the year up front and $9.95 per month if you pay monthly.

I also use hostgator, however, it isn't completely "touble free." One of my biggest complaints is that for a short period of time on a regular basis their server response time slows, this is not a good thing.

That said, their support is pretty good, they're inexpensive, they use cpanel, and they're big enough that they're not going away.

Thumbs up Now you said solid.

You want solid hosting, I recommend Rose Hosting. No link but if you type in rosehosting and then a period and then com in your browser address window, I think you'll find it.

Now, just a warning. You said solid - not easy. Their main customer base is Linux Admin types. They don't do much in the hand holding department.

I have two Virtual Private Servers with them. I'm no guru, and I've learned how to get around. I can install my own Wordpress site on there - and that's enough for me.

But I can vouch for their great efforts to stay up all the time. Full disclosure, I've known the owner since the company started and I help him out sometimes to keep the servers up and running

But I eat my own dog food. In other words, I'm not just a friend, I'm also a customer!

blogvibrations,
Sometimes being a non-conformist can kind of byte. If you weren't so adamant about not going along with the forum rules - you could have your single FriendFeed link. Then when I (or a prospective customer from this forum) clicked there you could have all your products and services aggregated to that site. Ed and the gang aren't against making money. They are against link litter all over the forum. If you did that, you could actually advertise your hosting and any other thing you wanted to hock in this site, but were afraid of wrath.

See aren't those stuuupid, sucky rules kind of smart after all?

So conform and make some money, dude!

(not that I do that myself, you'll be lucky to find my Twitter account on my FriendFeed. I'm just not that savvy yet, but someday...)

Where is your target market coming from? Its best to choose a server host based in your primary target country. Generally being US-based, but if you are focusing on the UK or Australia, then setup a host there.

Default I used Ipower - one of the best - no strings attached

I have used IPower for my hosting. I have a 30DC site on Unsecured consolidation loan . Please check this out its awesome.

BTW Ipower has a wonderful program to signup for only 3.98 +you domain name free for life - and you get their power pro plan. with 30 day full money back gaur.

Why I chose them was that in case if you can't commit to your site, or sell it as covered in day 26 of 30DC, you can go and cancel any time and you will be refunded the remaining amount (pro rata amt refunded). Mostly other guys will not let you do that.

Good luck hosting!!
