How do I separate my group of friends a/o social from the TDC a/o IM business on Facebook? I know there is a way to do it but I didn't have a need to do it before.
![]() Any help would be appreciated. |

I'd like to add to this question, as perhaps the answers will be similar...
I have a personal Facebook account where I have all my family and "friends" from high school. I do not want to commingle my online marketing life with that one...at least not until I can rub it in their faces ![]() Is it best to set up a bogus personal FB account, or to create a business/organization FB account to run my 30DC and online business from? Thanks! Bill |

You can use what is known as Friends Lists to keep it organised, here is a link to show you how to set them up on FaceBook Help. Hope this helps. Hugh |

If I understand you, right, what you will need to do is set up a FaceBook Page rather than opening a new account as the is againist the TOS of Facebook, you are only allowed one account, this may have changed but it was like this the last I heard. Here is a link to show you how to go about setting up a FaceBook Page. Hope this answers your question. Hugh |

I totally agree with what you have said about pages being "unpersonal", this is why I suggest using them for a business, I am sorry if I didn't make this clear in my reply above. Hugh

Will there be any crossover (links, wall posts, comments etc) between the two if we set up a Facebook Pages profile?
I too would like to keep my business separate from my friends - at least for the moment til I see how it all goes this yr with 30DC. I don't mind the facility occasionally.....as long as I am in control of what I post and where! Remember, some of us have chosen to Twitter to Facebook as well. What do you all think?

Hi InspiredWritingResearch,
I am sure there will be cross over posting from Facebook onto Twitter through onto FirendFeed as well, I am not sure about this but it is my guess this is the way Ed and the Gang will be showing us this year.

There is a way to easily partition different groups of "Friends" in Facebook. You go to the "Friends" tab and then click on the "Create New List" button. You can create a name for your new list (like "30DC" or whatever). You can then drop and drag whichever friends you want to have in that list...you can also add names directly to that list as you get them. Once you set up a list like this, you will see a tab with the name that you gave the new list on your facebook homepage. You can click on that tab to communicate/see/access with that specific group of people. Hope that helps! Holly

According to Facebook, you can do the following with a Friend List. 1. "You can filter your view of each list’s stream of activity separately on the home page." 2. You can "send messages and invites to these groups of people all at once." But Friend Lists do not have the capability to allow you to block your activity from being seen by anyone you have established as a friend on either their home page or when they view your activity page. If anyone knows otherwise, or if there is a way around this, please feel free to correct me and post the info here. Thanks, and good luck with this year's challenge!
