Default Day 2 ? Regarding Google Alert and Reader

In google alerts,Ed goes through two methods. The first being setting a comprehensive alert via google alert. Then he shows how to use the rss feed for the same thing for google reader. My question, just to be sure,is this..is there any benefit of using both methods or is that superfluous? And if that's the case,I would be correct in thinking that the google reader rss feed option would be superior?

Then in the google reader, regarding creating folders for rss feeds. Is this to put VARIOUS rss feeds into about the same niche subject? Seems it would be better to do this than to have a big list of subscriptions as it is by default correct?

Thanks so much.

Google alerts can be received by both email and rss.

In less you want to get emails of your alerts, than yes rss
is by far the best way to go. You don't really need both.

As far as your question about folders, Yes... you should organize
your feeds (with folders) for not only your niches but for all of your
feeds.

I am sifting through all of my saved email alerts as well as my rss feeds set for the same keyword.I am seeing some of the same things in both sure, but I am also seeing that my google email alerts has articles and what not that my google reader rss feeds does not and vice vs. I am a bit confused now,I thought they were supposed to do the same thing?

Also,I am seeing a bunch of unrelated junk, containing only one of the words in my keyword phrase. Is there a way to hone this down?Would putting the keyword phrase into double quotes for phrase match do that?

Thanks

Would anyone be able to comment on the above mentioned contradictions I seem to be finding?

Also, when setting alerts, wheather for email or feeds, when one sets it for comprehensive,I know that covers news, blog, web but does it also cover video and groups?I'm trying to determine this myself thru testing it out but wanted general consensus as well as its makin my head hurt.THanks
