The fact that Flock was soooo sloooooow was the prime reason I didn't (attempt) to start using it as my preferred browser.

Dude, you are the bomb.

I'll now actually start using it!

Why do they not have these settings set as default whn they first install Flock?

I never even thought It was that slow, I must be too used to IE, what was I thinking.

"...[1] type about:config into the address bar at the top and wait for page to load
[2] in the filter type network.http
[3] locate the strand called network.http.pipelining and double click it to change the value from false to true
[4] Do the same to network.http.proxy.pipelining
[5] Then locate network.http.pipelining.maxrequests - double click and change the value to 30 or higher (I'm using 40)
[6] Finally, close flock and load it up again..."

Did that and its working like a dream

And guys who posted on the thread, many thanks for offering your suggestions and experiences with Flock.
Mountainguy, you ROCK! thank you so much. done and done. I've already benefitted from 30dc Ed, whether or not I ever make my $10. Only problem is it keeps adding questions and thoughts. When do you people sleep? I don't much anymore but it's worth it! thanks

Here are a few more things to help make things run smoother.

On the same page, about:config -->network.http right click and choose New -> Integer --> and call it nglayout.initialpaint.delay --> set value to 0. This tells the browser how long to wait before acting on information received.

To limit RAM:
Go to about:config --> Filter: browser.cache --> choose browser.cache.disk.capacity --> set to 50000, or try 15000 if you have between 512MB and 1GB RAM.

Reduce RAM when minimized:
Go to about:config --> right-click anywhere and select New--> Boolean. call it config.trim_on_minimize and choose true. Restart.

Here is the link to these tips plus more Firefox tips (Flock is the same platform as FF) at Stepcase Lifehack.

Even better, get the FasterFox plugin - it'll do all these tweeks and a few more, from an easy to use interface. And it works in Flock too. I don't have many plugins, but this one is must-have.

(I personally wouldn't bother with the pre-fetch feature though, but that's just me).

The first time I tried modifying the network.http values (on Firefox -- didn't we
discover these last year in the 2007 challenge?) I immediately had
a problem with Google.

It reported that I seemed to be trying to break them with too many requests.

Bumping down the number of connections fixed the problem (near the other network.http
values.)
