Hi Rob,
Yes you can still take the challenge using a different browser. The reasons for the Flock browser is in part for the social networking features and also so that as Ed states in this video people just starting out (newbies) will be able to follow and apply the lessons easier. It is the base browser if you will. I have and will continue to use FireFox (now 3) as my default browser But with that being said I will also be using Flock (now2) alot. It also Rocks. Note: Most addons are now being update daily for the Firefox 3 engine which is what Flock 2 runs on, and at least for me rather well. I would recommend you use FireFox or Flock though to be able to make use of the addons that will be recommended plus the hundreds others that are available for your picking. Nothing against IE. but it just can't compare Heres the link to that video again if you want it straight from ED. http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/blog/238/firefox-3-in-the-thirty-day-challenge/ And Welcome to the 30DC *** Last edited by micronet : 07-20-2008 at 10:36 AM. |

I loved FireFox and really balked at the idea of another browser
When I started going thru the pre-training it was very aggravating seeing everything different in the videos, so I gave in and downloaded Flock 2! It works great - no problems with anything so far and I love it!I took all the add-ons off my FireFox 3 and I'm using it for everything that has to be as secure as Possible. I know Ed is using Flock 2 but not recommending it, however I am! It is the best! Why set everything up now and then have to upgrade to Flock 2 later, when it works perfectly now?! Mysty333 |

For anyone interested, they have just recently released a new version of the Flock 2.0 beta, supposedly fixes quite a few bugs. (Note: This only applies to anyone who went ahead and downloaded the Flock 2.0 beta, Pre-Season applies to the current stable release 1.2.1)

Hi Rob,
Flock just makes certain tasks easier by putting the buttons or menu items right there. You can accomplish the exact same tasks in Firefox (like adding an RSS feed to Google Reader), but it takes maybe three steps instead of two. Most of the extensions (like TwitterBar and SEO Information) and toolbars (like StumbleUpon and 30DC Toolbar) that Ed talks about in the videos should install and work fine on Firefox. It's nice to see a fellow 30DC member running the Ubuntu OS. I run Linux Mint 5 (an Ubuntu-based distro) as my primary OS, and the only thing that gives me fits is that the Seesmic videos crash Firefox, Flock, and Opera. I wish Ed would steer clear of Seesmic for video, but it might be something I'll just have to live with. I think it's a problem with Adobe Flash and Seesmic, instead of a particular browser. I found a workaround, though. If I boot my system from a live Mandriva 2008 CD, I can view the Seesmic stuff without crashing the browser. Clumsy, but it works. If you take a step back and understand what Ed's doing instead of just what he's clicking, I think you'll be fine. You can accomplish the exact same end result in Firefox.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I am not going to have to setup a Windows computer. I'll just take the few extra steps and use Firefox.
ThisGuyDoug, We migrated all of our computers over to Linux and love it. I love not having to reboot all the time. Have some machines that have not been rebooted in months. They only had to be rebooted because of an update. ![]() My wife went kickin and screaming when I moved her to Linux but she is now starting to see the benefit of the move. I got all the games she likes to play fine under Wine, so she is happy now. Re's Rob Whisonant |

That makes two of us...I am using virtual box and Windows XP on my Ubuntu Linux Operating System. Marketing Samurai runs perfectly on it. I dont think anyone will be able to get Samurai to work on Linux without major programming tweaks. Who wants to anyway? Just get Virtual Box which is free.
If Virtual Box is not available for your flavor of Linux go buy VM Ware I know that will work on any Linux machine. I believe it costs $75. Flock is Installable on Linux everyone...and it works perfectly. However it took me four hours to find out how. I searched all kinds of help pages and hit up the moderators at #Ubuntu channel on IRC to no avail. Finally I found it and it worked. How? Please send $20 to my Paypal for info... ok sorry here it is: Tech Pimp Flock Web BrowserFlock Employees and Developers....Where you at?????????????????????? I am not even a programmer...so wake up people. By the way I love your tool alot. Last edited by frogger : 08-23-2008 at 01:28 AM. |

Hi all,
I was hoping to find some clue for my 'rock in a hard place' feeling with the two browsers. AndyWiltshireNZ , You mention Flock (1.2.1) fixing bugs. I installed Flock finally and mostly liked it, but a couple days ago it started doing the "must close" thing over and over. Is this one of the bugs it fixes by chance? Not cool when you're doing something really important. Back to FF: I originally wanted to get Flock but have dwindling disk space, but went ahead figuring that I could just uninstall FF. But I can't find its origin and it's not in the add/remove programs. It's version 2.0.0.16. I've read some really negative things about FF 3 (people scoffing because they perceived that upgrading to 3 would really make life better but Not). Is 3 sort of a parallel to what Flock is 'supposed' to do? Would it make Flock unnecessary, or rather less desirable? The upgraded version of Real Player is on FF, as well. You know, where it annoyingly pops up and asks if you want to download this video? Annoying but we really think that could prove useful sometime. I don't know how to get that on Flock. I now have the cute little, and very convenient, Google reader thingy on Flock but when I go back to Google I can't find it again, and have no memory of how I got it on Flock. Also, in Flock I have specified more than once that it should be Google for the feeds, but it continually doesn't Offer it to me....probably something wrong on this end, and have watched Ed's videos many times as if there's one little thing has been missed. So, it's probably obvious that we're having difficulties with making up our minds on all this, and it's irritating to be so distracted, when other things need to be done. I was hoping that someone would read this, and say what maybe they would do with all the "if we do this, and if we do that" kind of stuff here. And frogger, I don't even know what virtual box and (I have XP) on my Ubuntu Linux Operating System are! Thanks for reading.... Quote:
