Default FriendFeed Ethics?

Hello All!

As I am getting more acquainted with FriendFeed and actually using it, the more I become concerned about the ethics of it, particularly the spamming potential aspect.
For example, is it right if I Stumble, Digg, etc., my own niches sites, etc., since they'll be broadcasted on FF, right?
Or... I should probably not do that right?
Suggestions?

thanks,

Gabi.

This is where quality comes into play.

People follow you because you add quality to the "stream"
People read your stuff because you add quality to the stream
People bookmark your stuff because it is quality

If you are following someone who is creating crap and bookmarking it, then it might be time to think about whether they are worth following.

You certainly won't want to book mark everything that you do that is yours because you're right, you will be seen a spamming those services.

At the same time, you may have sites that you visit on a regular basis that you would bookmark some but not all of the items. Treat yours the same way.

But then that's were teams come in. You're here to help each other out. But it doesn't mean that you have to bookmark on every site that they request or that you have to bookmark at all.

If the quality of a post that a team member puts up is not good, don't bookmark it. But please, let them know what you think in private or in their comments. We're here to help each other improve. If they improve on it and you then think it's worthy, give them some love.

Also with social bookmarking, start making it a habit to bookmark any site, blog, news article, video, etc... that you come across and that you like. Then you will find that you are bookmarking in many place, spreading much love and less likely to be seen as a spammer loving only 3 to 5 sites.

Ted and Allison!

Thanks so much. Much clearer now.

Ted, your point about groups is exactly what I was concerned of. For example, anything I bookmark out of my group will be broadcasted on FF. So I really should pay attention what content I do bookmark or not even from my group members.

I was in a couple groups that fizzeled out before and I was blindly bookmarking whatever articles/blogs they added. I had one member once that wrote back saying that why he didn't bookmarked certain ones and I didn't understand why - but now it make sense looking back.

Thanks a ton! Much clearer now!

You're making comments in the posts here, does that mean that you're spamming your FriendFeed? No! Yes, you do have to watch yourself a little. But by all means, if you find a site or a blog that you visit a lot and there is a lot of good content, then give it love.

Maybe instead of always digging and stumbling, you do a little propeller and skirt, or next a little del.ico.us and dotnetkick and then next time you give love on reddit and digg. Just use the different places that you can give love and you will be fine. And do the same thing with your own blog. But there are times that you can just skip it to.

Finally, your team mates aren't the only blogs, websites, forums that you'll go to, if you frequent other places, give them consistent love.

How about this, place a comment or trackback on some one elses blog and give it love and not your own. Build the popularity of the link that you placed on it and build the popularity of links back to you.

Let's all spread the love anytime we find something of quality, especially if it's a TDCer.

Ted
