Hi Jess,

This is my first time doing the challenge and I agree that the Google Reader trick is excellent. It saves me heaps of time

Did anyone watch the live show this morning?. I missed it

This is my first go. I'd never even heard of it till Lightening mentioned it on the Aussie Bloggers forum (I think).

I saw some info for 2007, got all excited, then stopped myself from jumping in the deep end and trying to read it all at once . I've had another search around, but I can't remember where I saw it - sorry.

Off to watch today's episode of The Thirty Day Challenge Show now I missed it too Jess. I've just about reached my bandwidth limit for this month so I'll see how I go.

Cheers

Default Online experience

Okay, so it seems we're all newbies here!

My question is - what have you guys done online in the past? I know we've all got blogs - but what other things - if any - have you tried?

I've been building websites since 1997, back when I was a teenager. Basically it was all just for fun back then! I got interested in affiliate marketing a few years ago, but got disheartened. I've made a grand total of $35 on CafePress over the last 4 years - whoohoo!

I've just started my first niche website - though I'm sure we're going to learn a lot about that in the challenge if what I've heard about previous challenges holds true for this one.

I've also started making some lenses on Squidoo.com, and can see a bit of potential there - but perhaps also a lot of work for not much reward.

And - who here actually wants to make a proper living online? That's my goal, eventually

Welcome to the team Jade

Jess, I haven't done too much for myself online. I have done a couple of personal web pages, but lost interest in them almost before I'd completed them When I was working I used to maintain our work websites, but that was 7 years ago (is it really that long) so I'm sure things have changed massively since then.

I've been tossing up whether to get involved with Squidoo. I'd be interested in checking out your lenses. Have you found much action from them?

I love writing on my blog, so if I never made a cent from it I wouldn't mind. I've put some advertising on it, but I don't know that it's going to create much of an income - pocket money would be nice.

However the idea of creating money making sites is very attractive. It would fit my lifestyle perfectly and would mean I could work from home (very attractive proposition). I'm beginning to seriously believe that it would be possible to make a decent living provided I put in the hard yards.

Default Strengths & Weaknesses

OK, now Jess has got me thinking

What do you think your greatest strength is that will help you in the 30DC and making money online in general?

What about your greatest weakness that might hinder your success?

I'll go first:

I think my greatest strength is my love of research. I also class myself as reasonably technically savvy, so that will (hopefully) be one less thing that I have to worry about!

My greatest weakness is my networking & marketing ability. I'm not typically an "out there" person and often hesitate in making new connections.

Cheers

Journeyer, I very much prefer hubpages to Squidoo.

The pages are more professional and the revenue sharing is superior. You get adsense, amazon paid directly to your account.

You get more for referring people to Hubpages. Also, if you share someone elses hub you get a cut of that revenue. Its less spammy - I really love it!

You girls have been busy chatting. It's great to see! Hi Jade welcome to the team

I thought about looking at last years challenge stuff, but decided that I needed to do this step by step. I have a habit of jumping in over my head and then getting overwhelmed, so I'm making myself go at an easy pace and staying away from everything else

What have I done online before? - Well I have been making personal web pages since about 1999. They were pretty crappy though but I feel like I have been building my skills slowly over all these years. I have recorded podcasts and am thinking about doing that again and I obviously have my blogs. I also made a squidoo lense but really didn't do much with it, so it's just sitting there doing nothing.

What do you think your greatest strength is that will help you in the 30DC and making money online in general?

I think that my greatest strength is that I like to learn new things and I'm always willing to give things a go!.

What about your greatest weakness that might hinder your success?

My biggest weakness is that I get bored easily and flit from thing to thing.

Great questions Journeyer

I will have to check out Hubpages Jade thanks

Default Hmmm..

Welcome, Jade!

Always nice to get someone thinking, Journeyer

What do you think your greatest strength is that will help you in the 30DC and making money online in general?

I love learning new things. And I've reached the point in my life where I'm finally doing things I've just been thinking about for years. No more time to waste!

What about your greatest weakness that might hinder your success?

Well, like Journeyer, I'm not a 'social butterfly', and like Rachel, I tend to get really interested in something for a few weeks, then lose motivation. I think being a part of a team will be helpful overcoming both things - at least, I hope so!

And thanks for the Hubpages tip, Jade. I've not heard of them before!

Hello again all. You've been doing some great chatting here and I'll need to do some catch up.

Welcome Jade and thanks for joining us.

As for last year's material - my understanding is that they clear last year's material when preseason starts so that nobody gets confused with what is what.

Will respond to some of the other discussion questions later (great discussion starters by the way - well done everyone!!!).
