Default Finally - By Damned It Works...

Back in August when I did my first 30 Day Challenge, I was stubborn, attached to an idea, had to make it work, couldn't let go of it....

Caro and Ed, did I just hear you sigh?

(If you haven't heard Caro's interview on the Secret Women's Business Network, it is a must listen!)

I banged my head against this idea for over 3 months, and finally made a few cents on adsense.

Fast Forward, April 2009. I decided, let's do this all over. I jumped into Market Samurai, did new research, located a new niche, and started all over again. This time in a niche I'm more interested in, but not nearly as attached to.

I started working the process again, this time paying close attention to the details, and adding in the tidbits I'm learning in 30DC Plus, and for Internet Marketing This Week.

I've slowly moved up the rankings on Google to where I now have 2 positions on page 1, and more listings scattered through the next couple pages.

My traffic is not an exciting amount, but I did not expect it to be for this phrase.

But....The Darn thing converts. This morning was my decision day, I had decided that I'd give it 1 month and either be making money, or move on to the next idea.

This morning I woke up, and to my delight, not only did it convert on one product, it converted on two overnight.

This was after making a very small adjustment to my offer yesterday.

I'm afraid I may have woke up my wife and baby after jumping up and dancing around the room.

Just a side note, 40% of my traffic comes from Google, 40% from YouTube, and the rest flows in from my various Social sites. Ed teaches a whole series on using video in the 30DC Plus, and that's the big addition I added for this round.

Take care, and keep on working!!

What a fantastic post I too am stubborn and have been attached to an idea for way too long. I listened to the Caro interview as well and coupled with your post I think it really is time to move on. I love reading how you have started working the process again and have achieved success this time, fantastic and inspiring.

What do they say? "Work Hard but don't kill Yourself" Looks like it worked for you.

Cheers ~G

Question... because i think i might be attached to my idea...

1- Did you have traffic but an anomoly of no conversion ... or did you really not even get to the point of being ranked and getting traffic ?

2- In retrospect, when would you have called it quits the first time around ?

I've been up for maybe 20 days now... my traffic has crossed the 100-110 visits a day line for the last 4 days.

Up until yesterday nothing converged.

I am trying my last 'bet' at a conversion engine... and i redid my whole sales part of the site in the last 2 days to test it... but i don't know yet.... if that will work as i put it up today so i'm going to monitor it for a bit.

I have trickles of money from Adsense (made 8 dollars in 20 days).... so i wouldn't say my place is DEAD... but it's not alive yet either... like a pub on the right side of town, but in a back alley way... it seems like there's alot of traffic going through my alley way to SOMEWHERE ELSE ...

your insight please !!! would really appreciate it...

Getting the 100 visits a day sounds promising.

Are they clicking over to your offer? That's the first thing I'd want to know.

On my first effort I had similar traffic to you, but no one would click through to my offer, even though I tried several different ones, and played with my copy. (They were seeking free information, and in that niche there is plenty of it.)

On this niche, I'm only getting about 50 unique people a day, so far, but a high percentage are clicking through to my offers, and out of that group, about 1 out of every 30 are converting.

Hmmm...Adsense? Be careful about that. You only want to do that as a last resort. If you're running Adsense, and your own offers, you're letting Google compete against your offer. Not a great idea.

Limit the exit opportunities on your site.

On my current site, I have the ad with the picture up on the upper right, but in every few posts, I also mention the offer, and give a link to it.

The only other outgoing links on my site are to news articles or videos that I am commenting on. Those outgoing links are on about every other post.

So far, I have not started using any of the automated functions of WPD for putting content on my site, it's all 100% original.

Until you've had enough people click through to your offer, it would be hard to evaluate its effectiveness, and if some of those clicks are going to Adsense, it does not let you really evaluate your offer.

On the "When would I have called it quits?"... The second decision day would have been the wise time. I don't remember exactly what day that was. But by then it was pretty obvious they were not clicking through to my offer, but I was hard-headed, and just ever so sure that I could "make" them go where I wanted.

It's so much easier if you're helping them go where they want, instead of trying to "make" them go.
