Default Frustration

I'm on my second keyword niche attempt, just did the day 15 weebly site, and still have yet to be indexed by google. I have followed everything to the letter up to this point.

On my first attempt, I chose a free domain name with wordpress direct, but I had the misfortune of choosing one that ends with "zoxic.com". Unbeknownst to me, rumor has it that google has banned anything with "zoxic.com" in it. That site never got indexed by google.

So, I bought a domain name with my new keyphrase in it, followed all the steps again, and have not yet been indexed. I believe I should have been indexed by now. I've posted on several Google groups and forums related to my niche, created a squidoo lens, hub page, and weebly pages. I have also socially bookmarked everything I've created. But still, nothing. I just don't understand. I have put a lot of time and effort into this (not to mention a little money) and have yet to see any results, even though I have followed the instructions completely. It's frustrating.

Without seeing your site I can't make any informed answer but here's a couple of suggestions: Add a privacy policy, sitemap and contact page if you haven't already done so, to make your site Adsense compliant.

Here's a wee backlink tip I picked up recently...
  1. Go to Blogger.com and sign up using your gmail account.
  2. Create a free blogspot blog using your main keyword phrase
  3. Create some keyword categories
  4. Write a couple introductory posts using original content
  5. Add your niche site RSS Feed to the sidebar
  6. Add a link to your niche sitemap to the side bar using keyword anchor text.

If you haven't got it already, download the Google Toolbar for firefox/flock and add the "send to" button in the tool bar. (This allows you to send any webpage to either gmail or blogger)

Now go to all the pages where you have created a back-link and hit the "send to" button and select blogger. This will create a post with the link inside it and the link title as a title for your post.
Write a brief post with a paragraph above and below the link and publish.
You can also do this for every page and post on your Wordpress niche site.

This strategy helps as blogger is owned by Google so they spider it regularly and will follow the links back to your backlinks and site.

WARNING: Don't go hog wild with adding links. Do one or two a day rather than all of them at once otherwise your blogspot blog will get labeled as a spam blog. Remember to add an original post every now and then too

Default Good news

My site has been indexed by Google! At least, it says it is one minute but then the next time I check it doesn't show up.

But, my site is nowhere to be found when I do a search for the keyphrase, both in and out of quotes. Is it normal for it to first be indexed without showing up for the keyphrase?

Default

do a search on google like this

site:yoursite

like

site:vintage electric guitar

and if you see pages of your site in the results then you are still indexed by google

if not
that means you pissed them off somehow and they dumped you

if you are listed (with the site:.... ) search but you are not showing up wehre you should be for your braod, phrase or exact match that means you may be in what we call 'the google sandbox' where you are awaiting a manual (human) review of google to make sure that you are not a spam/porn/waste of time site...

see google is a business
their business is to provide the best search result to their customers

so if you go looking for guitars and you end up with well written high ranking spam you will get pissed (as a customer) and that will eventually make people leave google and go to MSN or Yahoo search...

so google has to uphold itself as the BEST MATCH search engine so when they have doubts about a site they go in and check it manually just to make sure... happened to my site and i went 'offline' for 14 days... but they let me back in

as long as you post good quality content and have original and interesting stuff in your blog you have nothing to worry about...

plus ... google rankings is a program... if that program gets updated and the logic behind it changes then the entire ranking system may shift

for example if google one day decides that number of backlinks on facebook to yoursite is more important than other backlinks, then they can recalculate the index and find that for example yoursite has 10000 backlinks but 0 from facebook whereas there are these other sites that only have 300 backlinks but 200 of them are from facebook (this is entirely a hypothetical scenario) but in this scenario ... google would recalculate things and re-rank you somewhere new based on where they think you FIT inside their ranking system

make sense ? so it's ok to bounce around a bit, and it's ok to disappear from google for a while .. as long as you find your site with the site:.... search then you're still indexed and with work, content, optimization, time and effort you can move up the ranks...

good luck

Default Well done Ken

Well done Ken - It may not happen over night but it will happen

Now all you need to do is keep adding quality content and building quality backlinks using authority sites like blogger and squidoo etc.

You can also check your backlinks by using https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites and inserting your website URL into the "explore URL" box. It will show you which pages are indexed in the Yahoo index but of particular interest are the backlinks on the "inlinks' tab. If you work on increasing these you will find your site stabilizing and climbing in the index.

Haitham also offers some good info and advice too. The 30DC is about ethical marketing so if we follow the system we won't get into trouble with Google or anyone else.

Keep up the good work
