Default Seeing the World through Spam-Tinted Glasses

Hello again from a grey, dark Shropshire in the UK.

Oh, this backlink building!

While using Market Samurai to find some blogs to comment on in accordance with my 30DC training, I just spent five minutes skimming an article on a fairly well-established site, typing in a quality comment, in accordance with the stated rules, and what happened? When I pressed submit, all I got was a page with one big, bold, black word at the top – DISCARDED.

Nice.

You know, in the words of the old song (almost), I think too many webmasters are “seeing the world through spam-tinted glasses – and EVERYTHING looks spammy now!!”

Ok, so I am on their territory, and they can treat me how the heck they like. But my comment WAS quality content - really. I was asking for a link in return, naturally and in accordance with their stated rules.

Look, I am not here to bleat on about being treated badly - well not much - but I wish people would run their web sites a bit more like "real" businesses. I may be seeking a link in return for a quality comment today - but I could be a customer tomorrow. Well guess what, not NOW I won't! Do these people care about brand and reputation? Or do these website policies get unilaterally implemented by a junior staff member having a bad hair day?

I am not yet used to this Internet Marketing world. Every summary destruction of my carefully-crafted comments feels like the equivalent of a punch in the chest. Not exactly painful, but on the other hand not something I want to have done to me all morning. Yet I know I have to do it.

Oh well, I just gave myself a hug - nobody else here to do it and the neighbours already think I'm crazy so who cares?

Right, in the words of Dean Richards, "onwards and upwards".

Michael

Default Hang in there...

G'Day MichaelUK, and the next one you find will take your comment in the spirit in which it is delivered and you'll even get a nice response from the host.

That's the way the game is played. Some play nice and some don't. Go get some nice PR8 backlinks from Facebook blogs.

Or search out some Hub pages and comment on them. Weebly has a blog of their own and Weebly users have blogs. All of these are not moderated unless you are offensive and then you'll get canned, with good reason.

Don't let the occasional d.....h.... put you off, just go get two others.

Oh yeah, one more tip, every time you make a comment copy all of it before you submit it and keep a record of it in a swipe file (you can often reuse them with only slight changes - saves a lot of time).

Thanks for cheering me up OBK and for the useful tips. I especially like the one about copying before hitting submit - that was one thing that really annoyed me yesterday, when I lost what I had typed.

Thanks again.

Regards

Michael
