Hey Gang
I feel like Thomas Edison here. I have found at least 4 niches that don't work. Hope I don't need to go through 10,000 to find the one that works for me .Before I get into my experiences I wanted to say a BIG BIG thank you to the 30DC team. Ed, Dan, Guru Bob, Caro, The Forum and anyone else I missed. What a fantastic thing you have provided. Kudos to you all. Now as I mentioned before I am on my fourth niche. 1st one got an angry crowd I didn't want to be a part of, 2nd and 3rd got 1 to 2 people a day even at spot number 1 in google (MS told me to expect 93) and my fourth I think I screwed up with duplicate content [that pesky Latin demo text I found in the bottom of the posts page ]. This one I am waiting on getting out of the sandbox before I can tell if it was going to good or not.I am thinking that the Niches I am picking I am using too much emotion in. Does anyone else get the same feeling? I am used to doing a lot of my work based on gut feel and I think for picking a niche that aint working. Anyone else getting simmilar problems or experiences? Anyway I am going to try my next niche by strictly following the numbers and see if that helps. BTW isn't it great how it can take literally hours once you know what your doing to get a site going and indexed. Thanks again guys and gals. Brad Younger

Sounds like you've already been pretty busy
![]() Don't give up on your other blogs. It will be interesting to see what traffic you get over a longer period of time (for example, to see if there is some seasonality or other factors affecting it). Good luck with the next one! Lisa

Gut feeling is usually a bad sign of times to come in the bathroom.
![]() Anyway, the first rule of finding a niche is to go for something you know about. So your "feelings" may very well get involved. However, then you need to seperate your feelings from your facts and see if a niche is working out or not. As was said, don't give up totally on ones you think are dead, they may suddenly come to life. Last edited by DonH; 08-21-2008 at 10:13 PM. Reason: I can't spell |

Thanks everyone
I know at least one of the four may be starting to loose general interest in the US as it's an outdoor sport. I will keep them going and keep adding content probably once a week to see how it goes. Thanks again. brad

![]() I'd offer - it's either what you know about or want to know about. My most successful niche was something I was very curious about - and knew nothing. I now credibly know a lot. The main key was interest - but that's me ![]() As I've mentioned elsewhere, there's the type of person (Ed's one of them) that get excited by any niche - as it's the process that does it for him. Rob's similar. And Dan too. For newbies - it's a good place to start to have some curiosity - as that stimulates learning. AND - when it comes to numbers - it's about the numbers. My biggest passion in life - has still not produced the numbers in IM - so I accept that and move onto other things that intrigue me. Two businesses I started - yawn...topic bored me, one I was an expert about, the other...I saw the opportunity - to work on them is like pulling teeth... Again - NUMBERS So possibly: Curiosity and or knowledge going in Numbers deciding if you move forward or not. Caro

I am going through the same thing. My first site was a whim based on initial MS results. I bought the domain name, hosted it on HostGator and got it put up in about 2 days. That was all good, it even got ranked quickly. I added an affiliate link and wrote a money article. Socially bookmarked it and created Squidoo, Hub, and Weebly pages. I watched it climb in the rankings. At one point, in phrase match, I owned 8 of 10 on the first page. Got it all connected with Google analytics, averaged about 6 visits a day. Now that I've gotten a greater understanding of the data and how to verify it and double check it, I am tearing down my first few sites and building new ones. The niches I found are not a subject matter that is particularly appealing to me. However, the market research show me I can dominate in these niches with a little work. The work is so much easier now that I've been through the process. I must say, I found the The Niche Marketing Black Book to be of immense value. Just the list of top 40 online markets helped give me great ideas for direction. Most of all, by taking all the obstacles in stride and working through them by reviewing the materials, I have a greater holistic knowledge of what I'm doing now. I am not intimidated or overwhelmed. It is a process, as I learn it more, it becomes easier. Brad, I just want to say, you have a great attitude towards the 30DC. I am sure you will succeed and I wish you the best. Roy
