Default I don't know if this counts, but $200 bucks is still $200 bucks...

Oddly enough, I have started making some money indirectly - as a direct result of what I've learned by participating in this year's Thirty Day Challenge.

It started with my brother, he has an existing website and it generates additional income for him at home. But he'd like more traffic from organic listings and he'd like to reduce his PPC costs. I invited him to take the challenge along with me and my son this year - but the timing wasn't good for him.

So - he's hired me to "30DC-ify" his website. I've started working on it - his ranking is improving and his PPC costs are going down. No money has changed hands yet - but sometime this month...And that's okay with me - he and his wife just had a baby about a week ago, so they have their hands full.

In the meantime, another friend told his cousin (honest) about the Thirty Day Challenge project I was working on with my son. He liked the information, but basically figured he'd have to put in 60 to 80 hours to watch the videos, learn and implement the 30DC strategies.

Well, he's already busy with his business, built mostly by word-of-mouth - and recently paid someone a pretty sizable amount (about $4k) for a beautiful website - with no on-page optimization at all.

Seriously, the "Title Tag" for his home page was - "Home Page"...Yeah, when I saw it (and found out how much he'd paid for it) I almost threw up a little...sorry.

Anyhow, we met last night - I prepped with a little Market Samurai research - and came up with a 4 to 6 week plan to 1)complete the market research 2)fix his on-page optimization, 3)work on off-page factors and 4)get him a solid plan for AdWords PPC. In addition, we'll be monitoring the traffic and conversions - and tweak things as needed to maximize the sales of his product.

It must have sounded good to him, because we agreed on a rough budget of $1,000 to $1,200 for the project, plus an AdWords budget of $300 for testing - and I got a $200 down payment for Web Consultation. As of tonight, I've fixed the critical on-page factors and have started the framework for his AdWords campaign. So everything is already in motion...

By the way - if you need to access multiple Adwords accounts, you can create a "My Client Center" account in Google and tie them together from a single login...that's a very handy little trick...

I wasn't really looking for it - it just sort of happened. It's not exactly a niche business like we were focusing on building during the challenge, but - I may be able to build a web consulting business based on what I've learned here, in addition to working on my own niche sites. That's some major awesomeness as far as I'm concerned.

Ed, Dan, Robert, Caro, Nez, Asbjorn, Hendry, forum moderators, and everyone whose been a part of putting on the challenge this year - thank you for opening doors and creating possibilities for people like me...

Very Cool! Congratulations on your new consulting business.

Hopefully your success with these 2 sites will get the word of mouth started for you, and you'll have great continued success..

That is really great and of course it counts! What's even more wonderful is you have the beginnings of a new business that you can expand upon.

Congratulations!

We can discuss similiar strategies to increase traffic, as i am in the same position where i signed up for the 30 day challenge but didn't have the time to follow it consistently however me and my friend where able to each make more than $10 online during this time being.

Default Re: Word of mouth...

I'll send you an e-mail in a bit...

Both of these projects have required some extra time upfront for analysis and planning. Once that's done, I'm able to reduce the amount of time required to something manageable - a few hours or so a week to make changes, track results, etc.

In both cases, I'll probably be working on an ongoing basis for the next 6 to 12 months.

Between the 30DC training, the "STSE2" package from StomperNet, the Immediate Edge and the Adwords Pro Training from Google - there are a lot of strategies to explore, test and implement.

That said, I should be clear to take on another client in a few weeks - in the meantime, I'll send you that e-mail shortly.

Steve

Default Turning $200 into $1,100 - and very soon, a Mac Book Pro...

Just a quick update - and can I just say a big thank you to the 30DC crew?

THANK YOU!

My initial $200 from last month - has turned into $1,100 in consulting fees so far.

My brother's AdWords exposure is up by 180% - his cost-per-click is down 44%. Plus, he's actually starting to get ranked organically for some keyword phrases he's been coveting for months.

My other client has also seen his organic traffic go from nothing to an average of 20+ organic visitors per day. And he's starting to rank across multiple keywords in his niche.

Because he wanted fast traffic - we started an Adwords campaign for him right away. By setting up his Adgroups properly and split-testing results, his CPC's have been decreasing too...

There's still plenty of work to be done - but they're happy with the results they're getting so far. Just wait until I get them hooked up with Friendfeed!

I know, I know - the headline also mentioned a Mac Book Pro...

My brother is about to send me a Mac Book Pro - just his way of saying thank you in advance...

Unfortunately, my folks aren't willing to adopt any of you...

With much gratitude to Ed, Dan, Robert, Caro, Nez, Asbjorn, Hendry, Lisa and everyone else behind the scenes who I haven't yet had a chance to get to know...

That's fantastic news. So great to hear about the successes.

Shame about the adoption, though

Default Guess what's on the way...

The Mac Book Pro is on the way. It should be here in a few days.

I'm so excited about it I can hardly contain myself.

I feel like Stephen (my 10 year-old) at Christmas...

Maybe that's the secret to bottling up all that childlike energy - new toys

I'm sorry about the adoption thing too But I'll call you "sis" if it will make you feel better

Ciao for now...Steve
